Preston Stone passed for two touchdowns, Jack Olsen kicked a pair of field goals and Northwestern cruised past sliding Purdue 19-0 on Saturday for its fourth straight win. Joseph Himon II rushed for 87 yards on 22 carries and Caleb Komolafe ran for 67 yards before leaving with an upper-body injury in the third quarter for Northwestern (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten), which has its best record through seven games since coming out 6-1 in 2020. The Wildcats scored on their first three possessions, raced out to a 13-0 lead at halftime, then kept the Boilermakers' offense in check to send them to a fifth consecutive loss overall and 13th straight in conference play. "I was excited about the way this football team started out the game," Northwestern coach David Braun said. "I was excited about the way we continued to build momentum in the third quarter and ultimately really excited about the way our defense was able to close out with a shutout." Stone threw for 132 yards on 11-for-26 passing.

He connected with Hunter Welcing for a touchdown in the second quarter, then Griffin Wilde in the third. Wilde has TDs in four straight games. The Wildcats ran the ball 50 times for 232 yards. That helped Northwestern control the pace of this one and dominate in possession time - 38 minutes to 22. "We know who we are," Braun said. "It starts with the running game and it's built around that. We have to make sure we continually emphasize it." The Wildcats defense limited Purdue to 11 first-down conversions while Northwestern consistently advanced to 25 of its own. "We're super lucky to have the defense that we do," Stone said. "We had 11 guys flying around the whole game, not just doing their job, but really like setting the tone, honestly inflicting pain on that offense." Caleb Komolafe ran for 72 yards and a touchdown and Northwestern held on to beat Penn State 22-21 on Saturday. Preston Stone threw for 163 yards with a touchdown pass to Griffin Wilde, and Jack Olsen kicked three field goals for the Wildcats (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) who won their third straight. The Wildcats, who hadn't won in Beaver Stadium since 2014, took the lead for good with 4:51 when Komolafe bulled his way through Penn State's defense to cap a 75-yard drive late in the fourth quarter. The Nittany Lions got the ball back, but lost quarterback Drew Allar to a leg injury on a third-down play. Backup Ethan Grunkemeyer replaced him and was immediately stopped on a fourth-down run and the Wildcats ran the clock out from there. Allar, Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen ran for touchdowns for the Nittany Lions (3-3, 0-3) who lost their third straight. It was the fifth time a James Franklin coached Penn State team has lost at least three consecutive games in a season.

The Nittany Lions, who committed six penalties for 71 yards in the first half, could never get out of their way. Meanwhile, the Wildcats played steady, almost mistake-free football in front of a flat Penn State crowd that chanted "Fire James Franklin!" early. Allar was intercepted on Penn State's opening drive when he threw the ball right to defensive back Ore Adeyi in the end zone. Adeyi returned it to the Northwestern 33 and the Wildcats turned it into three points 12 plays later with Jack Olsen's a 27-yard field goal with 2:51 left in the first quarter. The Nittany Lions finally got their offense moving with Allen. He carried five times on Penn State's next possession and gave his team a 7-3 lead when he muscled in from 11 yards out early in the second. Northwestern marched into Penn State's territory on its next possession where Stone found a wide open Wilde for a go-ahead 28-yard touchdown pass. New quarterback Preston Stone passed for 245 yards and his first three touchdowns with Northwestern, leading the Wildcats to a 42-7 rout of Western Illinois on Friday night. Hayden Eligon II, Hunter Welcing and Drew Wagner pulled in Stone's scoring passes. Cam Porter rushed for a touchdown and 91 yards as Northwestern (1-1) dominated its home opener at Martin Stadium, its temporary lakeside field. Backup QB Ryan Boe fought off a defender and raced 58 yards for a score midway through the fourth quarter and Luke Akers added a pair of field goals. Porter didn't return after limping to the sidelines with a lower-body injury six minutes into the third quarter. Two trainers helped him off the field after he emerged from a pileup. The six-year grad student led Northwestern in rushing in 2020, 2023 and 2024.

Stone, a graduate transfer from SMU, connected on 21 of 29 passes. He recovered nicely after throwing a career-high four interceptions in his Wildcats debut - a 23-3 loss at Tulane last week. Griffin Wilde caught five passes for 94 yards to help boost Northwestern's total yards to 526. Western Illinois scored on backup quarterback Cason Carswell's 8-yard pass to Christian Anaya with 2:49 remaining. Western Illinois (0-2) was limited to 181 yards. Leathernecks starting quarterback Chris Irvin was held to 27 yards on 5-for-18 passing before Carswell entered and went 6 for 8 for 52 yards. One-time Clemson starting defensive back Fred Davis II, sued by an accident victim when he and teammate Malcolm Greene allegedly were seen racing on a roadway near campus, has decided to transfer. Davis announced his intention Sunday, a day after the Tigers won the Atlantic Coast Conference title in a 39-10 win over North Carolina. "I'm officially entering the transfer portal on Dec. 5," was all Davis said in post along with a photo of him lined up prior to a snap of a home game.

Davis and Greene were sued in Pickens County Common Pleas Court, a form of civil court, this past October by victim Karen Alvarez, who was driving a mail delivery truck that Davis' vehicle crashed into. Davis, a junior, was arrested and charged with reckless driving in the summer of 2021. The charge is a misdemeanor in South Carolina. On the field, Davis played 20 games his first two seasons and began this year as a starter in Clemson's first four games.
