  08/09/20 - Oliver MartinrSr/2023, Nebraska, 6-0, 199 (DS#113 WR) + More +

Oliver Martin's transfer to Iowa and subsequent eligibility ruling was arguably the biggest Hawkeye football storyline of the 2019 offseason. One year later, the former 4-star wide receiver is on the move again. Martin has reportedly entered the transfer portal for the second time in as many years, according to reports from 247Sports and other outlets. The former Iowa City West standout ends his brief Hawkeye career with five catches for 28 yards and one touchdown. Following a heightened recruitment as one of the Midwest's top 2017 prospects, Martin hasn't found the same success in college. A Michigan commitment led to a redshirt season in 2017, followed by one active year in Ann Arbor and then a surprising transfer to Iowa. The thought was coming home would be a welcomed change for Martin. - Iowa City Press-Citizen

  08/07/20 - Samori TourerSr/2022, Nebraska, 6-1, 191 (DS#28 WR) + More +

Due to continuing concerns related to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Big Sky Conference is postponing its fall 2020 football season to spring 2021. The conference's Presidents' Council convened Thursday and voted to move forward in this manner. Non-conference play for the conference's football programs is still pending further review. The Big Sky has begun exploring modified versions of a conference football schedule to be played in the spring and fully supports the NCAA shifting the FCS championship to the spring. - Big Sky Football

  08/06/20 - Nouredin NouilirSr/2024, Nebraska, 6-3, 310 (DS#52 OG) + More +

Nouredin Nouili is in the clear. The Nebraska sophomore offensive lineman is immediately eligible to compete after receiving an NCAA waiver, the transfer from Colorado State announced via Twitter on Wednesday. Nouili graduated from Norris last year as an exchange student from Germany. Upon arriving in the United States, he impressed on the football field to such a degree that he picked up several scholarship offers and eventually picked CSU. Nouili adds even more depth and potential competition for the interior offensive line spots up for grabs in Greg Austin's room. The Huskers have 15 scholarship offensive linemen plus Nouili and fellow walk-on transfer Ezra Miller, who joined the program this summer after spending his redshirt season on scholarship at Iowa. - Lincoln Journal Star

  07/26/20 - Nick HenrichrSr/2025, Nebraska, 6-3, 235 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

Nick Henrich has now been healthy for a while, and that's a very good thing in the mind of Nebraska inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud. Henrich, the redshirt freshman and former four-star prospect out of Omaha Burke, had surgery after an injury in the spring of 2019 and only got back enough to appear against Wisconsin on special teams in mid-November. Now, though, the 6-foot-4 linebacker is healthy and trying to crack a rotation for the Huskers that starts with the senior tandem of Collin Miller and Will Honas. "It was a big disappointment not only for him but for us, too, that he got injured in spring practice (in 2019) because you saw him really start to come on when he got hurt in spring," Ruud said in an interview on the "Husker Sports Nightly" radio program, noting that at least Henrich got to keep his redshirt season. "He's had a full year or so to really recover from that surgery and he's 100% full-go.

"He's gained 25 pounds since he's been here and he's a guy I've always been extremely high on, ever since watching his high school tape. He's as advertised and now it's just a matter of him continuing to push and continuing to develop." Henrich is one of several players trying to earn playing time. Ruud says often that he'd like to have up to four players getting regular snaps and can find roles for more than that at least situationally. "(Henrich) has all the tools needed to be a really, really good football player for a long time," Ruud said. - Lincoln Journal Star

  07/26/20 - Joseph JohnsonrSo/2023, Nebraska, 6-2, 235 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

Nebraska inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud hasn't been shy the past year in saying how much he thought of walk-on inside linebacker Joey Johnson. It appears, though, that Johnson will be continuing his college career elsewhere. The Gretna native and sophomore's name is in the NCAA transfer portal as of Friday, a source confirmed to the Journal Star. Johnson rose to the No. 2 line at inside linebacker last year and played some against Maryland, Ohio State and Northern Illinois. With Johnson at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, Ruud liked his development arc and long-term potential. - Lincoln Journal Star

  07/24/20 - Brenden JaimesSr/2021, Nebraska, 6-5, 298 (DS#24 OT) + More +

Nebraska's senior offensive linemen spent a good part of a media availability back in March laying out the reality for the Husker offensive line in 2020. It's a veteran group, they said, which means there's no excuse for anything outside of high-level performance. During a radio interview Tuesday, offensive line coach Greg Austin took it one step further regarding senior left tackle Brenden Jaimes in particular. "Brenden has the opportunity to be one of the best in the conference and one of the best in the country at his position," Austin said on the "Husker Sports Nightly" radio program.

Nebraska has not had a first-team All-Big Ten offensive lineman since Spencer Long in 2012. Jaimes has started 33 straight games - including all 24 of the Scott Frost era at left tackle - and Austin said by the end of 2019 he considered the Austin, Texas, native to be a stalwart. "Really looking forward to seeing him grow and mature into the player that (former head coach Mike Riley's staff) recruited him to be," Austin said. "Last year, we saw that guy take his game to another level, especially playing some elite pass-rushers. "He did a great job, especially late in the season against Iowa's premier pass-rusher (first-round draft pick A.J. Epenesa). So we're looking forward to watching him go out there and compete." - Lincoln Journal Star

2020 PRESEASON DOAK WALKER AWARD WATCH LIST: Dedrick Mills (Sr.), Nebraska,...Mills, a senior from Waycross, Ga., made a significant impact in his first season at Nebraska in 2019. He led the Huskers with 745 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, earning honorable-mention All-Big Ten accolades from both the coaches and media. Mills posted a pair of 100-yard rushing efforts for the Huskers in 2019, highlighted by a 188-yard performance against No. 15 Wisconsin. His other 100-yard performance came against Northern Illinois, when he had 116 yards and a score on just 11 carries. That performance included a career-long 61-yard run. He finished eighth in rushing and touchdowns in Big Ten play in 2019. It is the second time Mills has been on the preseason Doak Walker list, as he was also on it following his freshman year at Georgia Tech. - Nebraska Football
