  10/22/20 - Ben StillerSr/2022, Nebraska, 6-4, 300 (DS#32 DT) + More +

Stille has been a fixture in the lineup for years and he is by far the most experienced player returning for defensive line coach Tony Tuioti. He's a leader in the group and will also be counted on as, likely, a starting defensive end. Stille, the Ashland native, has played in 33 career games and has 21 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks to his ledger so far. Can he be a six-to eight-sack player and push toward double-digit TFLs? If so, he'll be an anchor for Nebraska up front. - Lincoln Journal Star

  10/20/20 - Dicaprio BootlerSr/2021, Nebraska, 5-10, 180 (DS#44 CB) + More +

A few months ago, Kade Warner was a walk-on wide receiver. Now he's a scholarship player and a Nebraska team captain. The junior, who has assumed a leadership role in the wide receivers room and has been talked about consistently in positive terms since the Huskers began camp several weeks ago, is one of five players named a captain by Nebraska on Saturday. Senior inside linebacker Collin Miller and senior defensive back Dicaprio Bootle are also first-time captains, while junior quarterback Adrian Martinez and senior right guard Matt Farniok were chosen for the second straight year. Bootle, Farniok and Martinez are all multiyear mainstays on the field, while Miller ascended to a starting role in 2019 and projects as a starter and a regular at inside linebacker again this fall. Bootle has played in 36 career games and has been a regular in the lineup since 2017, while Farniok is not far behind at 31 career appearances. Martinez, of course, has spent his first two seasons at Nebraska as the team's top quarterback, starting 21 games and missing three due to injury. - Lincoln Journal Star

  10/17/20 - Marquel DismukerSr/2022, Nebraska, 6-0, 196 (DS#101 SS) + More +

He says the experience was "mind-blowing." Not always in a good way. Nebraska safety Marquel Dismuke somehow pushed through to the end of last season despite playing the bulk of it with a neck injury. Tackling with a neck injury was not ideal. "It was mind-blowing to fight through it each and every game," Dismuke said this week. "But I did that just for me, my team and my coaching staff." A native of Compton, California, Dismuke ended the season tied with inside linebacker Collin Miller for third on the team in tackles with 67. That total was the most of any member of the secondary. He came up big in Nebraska's 42-38 win in late September at Illinois, breaking up passes on third and fourth down during the Illini's final drive.

He recorded no fewer than six tackles in each of the Huskers' first six Big Ten games, had a couple of quieter games, then finished the season with a six-tackle performance against Iowa. "I have a lot of respect for Marquel," said Nebraska junior Cam Taylor-Britt, who made seven of his 10 starts last season at safety but is playing cornerback now. "We both kind of played injured throughout last season. We were back there talking, trying to figure out how to do this and that with our injuries. We were lifting each other up the whole time. He's an older guy, and I was the younger guy. "I feel like we're on the same page now. We have a little more chemistry. But he's always lifting me up, and I'm always lifting him up. He was a strong guy last year, and I commend him on that. A lot of people can't do that." - Lincoln Journal Star

  10/10/20 - Billy Kemp IVrSr/2024, Nebraska, 5-09, 180 (DS#217 WR) + More +

Billy Kemp IV practices like he plays, according to Bronco Mendenhall. That's bad news for Virginia's defensive backs. Through two games, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior is terrorizing opposing defenses. Despite being one of the smaller players on the field, Kemp IV is one of the most dynamic. He caught 10 passes for 96 yards against Clemson, following up a seven-catch, 70-yard performance against Duke to open the season. "He's been the most consistent, the most competitive and the most productive player on our roster, period," Mendenhall said. Kemp IV leads the ACC in receptions per game with 8.5. That average is good for the fourth-best mark nationally. His 83 yards per game ranks second in the conference and 24th nationally. Through two games, he's been one of the most productive receivers in college football. "His lack of size is what's challenging," senior cornerback De'Vante Cross said. - Charlottesville Daily Progress

  10/09/20 - Luke ReimerrSr/2024, Nebraska, 6-0, 223 (DS#30 ILB) + More +

Nebraska inside linebacker Luke Reimer saw the field often as a true freshman last season, and obviously made a strong impression. The Lincoln North Star graduate now has a scholarship, according to NU inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Reimer arrived on campus as a walk-on after turning down some offers from the Football Championship Subdivision level to play on scholarship. Just more than a year later, he's got one in the Big Ten. "He's a guy that after going through his first couple drills as a true freshman walk-on, I figured it wasn't going to take very long (to earn a scholarship)," Ruud said Tuesday. "He's been nothing but great to be around and he's improved every day he's been around here." Reimer was put on scholarship at the beginning of the fall semester. Reimer played in 10 games last season, mostly on special teams, and had 11 tackles, including one for loss. He saw a little bit of reserve time at linebacker, including late in a 54-7 win at Maryland. As a senior at North Star, Reimer made 74 tackles, including 14 for losses, en route to being a Super-State selection. - Lincoln Journal Star

  09/16/20 - Ethan PiperrSr/2025, Nebraska, 6-2, 305 (DS#999 OG) + More +

Eight Nebraska football players announced Wednesday they have dismissed their lawsuit filed Aug. 27 against the Big Ten Conference. The news comes on the same day the conference announced it would attempt to start a football season on Oct. 23-24. The league postponed the season Aug. 11 amid concerns about playing safely during the coronavirus pandemic. The players' lawsuit sought a reversal from the league on its decision, claiming it harms their career development opportunities and has a direct and significant impact on businesses in Lancaster County and the greater Nebraska area.

However, in a statement released through their attorneys, the players said, "We cannot adequately express the gratitude we feel for the support we have received from Nebraskans and from others throughout the Big Ten Conference. We believe football is something that brings people together. It is immensely important to us that Coach (Scott) Frost never stopped fighting for us. "Although he was not part of this lawsuit in any way, we are proud of his efforts inside the Big Ten Conference to advocate for us and our team. We are proud to be in the Big Ten Conference and would like to thank everyone for standing behind us when it wasn't easy." The eight players in the lawsuit were Brant Banks, Brig Banks, Garrett Snodgrass, Garrett Nelson, Ethan Piper, Noa Pola-Gates, Alante Brown and Jackson Hannah. They were represented by Mike Flood of Jewell & Collins in Norfolk, as well as Pat Cooper and Mark Laughlin of Fraser Stryker Law Firm in Omaha. - Lincoln Journal Star

  09/03/20 - Brandon MoorerSr/2023, Nebraska, 6-0, 174 (DS#173 CB) + More +

UCF defensive back Brandon Moore took to social media to update fans on his recovery from an ACL injury he suffered in the 2019 season opener. "Although I'm not 110%, I'm on my way, know that. I'm thankful for everyone that has helped me throughout this journey and continue to do so, running my own race, 20 will be back," Moore said in a statement on the UCF program's official Twitter account. The announcement was accompanied by a 48-second video highlighting Moore's recovery. He wore a brace on his left leg and ran on the team's practice field with no apparent difficulty.

Moore suffered the injury late in the third quarter of UCF's game against Florida A&M on Aug. 29. He was among a handful of Knights who remained around campus this summer despite the coronavirus pandemic to continue their rehabilitation work. "He's getting close to doing all functional movement and preparing himself to get back out there on the field at some point this fall," UCF coach Josh Heupel said of Moore. "He's done a great job of continuing to battle and handle that rehab process and I'm proud of what he's done. He'll be back and playing at a championship level, no doubt about it." - Orlando Sentinel

Due to ongoing concerns related to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Big Sky Conference is postponing all competition for its fall sports to spring 2021. The conference's Presidents' Council convened Aug. 12 to affirm this recommendation from its members' athletic directors. This decision impacts all Big Sky sports that compete in the fall both for their championship season (men's and women's cross country, soccer, volleyball) and for their non-championship segment (men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's tennis). Additionally, the Presidents' Council confirmed that non-conference contests will not be permitted in any Big Sky fall sport, including football. The Presidents' Council had decided on Aug. 6 to postpone the 2020 conference football schedule until the spring. - Big Sky Conference
