If Luke Reimer happens to hear his position coach's latest comments on his overall game, he'll note it's essentially a good news-bad news assessment. Actually, there's not much bad news at all. "I don't know if Luke has a big-time weakness, but he has to improve everything," Nebraska inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud said Monday. "I think that's a good way to put it. "He's a really good athlete, really understands football," the coach added. "Probably the worst part of his game - I don't know if it's a weakness - is the pass rush. But overall, he doesn't have a glaring weakness in his game. It's all about having the mentality to improve each aspect on a daily basis." Reimer, a sophomore from Lincoln North Star, said he grades himself in a harsh manner. He understands his limitations. Good news: He has an opportunity to make significant improvements this month, what with Nebraska in the midst of preseason practice in advance of its Aug. 28 opener at Illinois. A five-game starter last season, he's regarded as one of the Huskers' top three inside linebackers along with redshirt freshman Nick Henrich and Chris Kolarevic, a junior transfer from Northern Iowa. - Lincoln Journal Star

  10/09/20 - ILB Luke ReimerrSr/2024, Nebraska, 6-0, 223 (DS#30 ILB) + More +

Nebraska inside linebacker Luke Reimer saw the field often as a true freshman last season, and obviously made a strong impression. The Lincoln North Star graduate now has a scholarship, according to NU inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Reimer arrived on campus as a walk-on after turning down some offers from the Football Championship Subdivision level to play on scholarship. Just more than a year later, he's got one in the Big Ten. "He's a guy that after going through his first couple drills as a true freshman walk-on, I figured it wasn't going to take very long (to earn a scholarship)," Ruud said Tuesday. "He's been nothing but great to be around and he's improved every day he's been around here." Reimer was put on scholarship at the beginning of the fall semester. Reimer played in 10 games last season, mostly on special teams, and had 11 tackles, including one for loss. He saw a little bit of reserve time at linebacker, including late in a 54-7 win at Maryland. As a senior at North Star, Reimer made 74 tackles, including 14 for losses, en route to being a Super-State selection. - Lincoln Journal Star
