2019 AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Quincy Roche, DE, Temple,...Roche finished the 2019 regular season as the American Athletic Conference leader with 13.0 sacks and 18.0 tackles for loss, ranking fifth nationally in sacks and 10th in tackles for loss. He needs 1.5 sacks to tie The American's single-season record of 14.5 sacks, held by Louisville's Marcus Smith (2013) and ECU's Nate Harvey (2018). Roche also became The American's career leader in sacks (26.0) in three seasons, surpassing the old mark of 25.5 sacks by Houston's Steven Taylor from 2013-16. Roche is the second Temple player to be named as The American's Defensive Player of the Year, joining former Owl linebacker Tyler Matakevich, who won in 2015. - American Athletic Conference Football

2019 ACC DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Gregory Rousseau, DE, Miami, 51 Votes,...Miami's Rousseau enjoyed a breakout campaign in his first season as a starter. The Coconut Creek, Florida, native finished the regular season with an ACC-leading 14 sacks - the second-most in the nation - and is tied for 10th in the country with 18 tackles for loss. Rousseau had at least one sack in eight games and had five performances with multiple tackles for loss. Battling back from a fracture and dislocation of his right ankle that sidelined him just two games into the 2018 season, the 6-6, 260-pound redshirt freshman registered at least three sacks in a game twice versus ACC opponents, and he is one of only 19 players nationally with double-digit sacks for the season. - ACC Football

  11/04/19 - Bubba BoldenSr/2022, Miami, 6-2, 209 (DS#16 SS) + More +

The celebratory hit that Miami safety Bubba Bolden took from a teammate during the win over Florida State was a costly one for the Hurricanes. Bolden will miss the remainder of the Hurricanes' season because of an injury that happened shortly after he made a third-quarter interception of a deflected pass Saturday in the 27-10 win at Florida State. Bolden caught the pass thrown by Florida State's Alex Hornibrook near midfield, got up and sprinted a few yards. A few seconds later, things went wrong when Miami teammate and fellow safety Gurvan Hall leaped and crashed into Bolden -- who landed awkwardly and sustained what appeared to be an ankle injury.

"We will not have Bubba for the rest of the year," Miami coach Manny Diaz said Monday. "Unfortunately, he'll be out for the season, which is tough on our defense because he was really, really starting to play at a very high level. We'll have to do what we always do. We'll rely on the depth we have at the safety position and move on." Bolden, who missed the first four games of the season while awaiting NCAA clearance following his transfer from USC, appeared in five games for Miami (5-4, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). He had 11 tackes, a pass breakup and the interception. "Thank you to everyone for reaching out and sending prayers," Bolden wrote on Twitter. Miami defensive coordinator Blake Baker said Bolden was becoming a bigger part of the Hurricanes' game plan each week. - AP College Football

  10/26/19 - K.J. OsbornSr/2020, Miami, 5-11, 203 (DS#67 WR) + More +

Jarren Williams hit K.J. Osborn for a 32-yard touchdown pass with 58 seconds remaining to rally Miami to a 16-12 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday. Williams, who entered midway through the fourth quarter for starter N'Kosi Perry, drove the Hurricanes 62 yards in nine plays, the last a short toss to Osborn that Osborn turned into his fifth touchdown of the season. Pitt's last-gasp drive ended with a pair of dropped passes, a sack and a wayward throw by Kenny Pickett on fourth down. Miami (4-4, 2/3 Atlantic Coast Conference) sputtered for most of the afternoon, relying heavily on three early Pitt turnovers that allowed the Hurricanes to take a 10-6 halftime lead. Miami trailed 12-10 late in the fourth quarter when Williams entered for Perry. Williams' first drive ended with a punt. His second may have changed the trajectory of his team's season.

The Hurricanes took over with 4:01 to play and needed a fourth-down conversion to keep the drive alive. Williams, however, appeared to gain confidence with each snap. His strike to Osborn helped Miami get back to .500. Williams completed 4 of 8 passes for 50 yards and the touchdown as Miami won on a day it managed just 208 yards of total offense. Perry, named the starter on Friday after playing through a separated left shoulder in a loss to Georgia Tech last week, completed 10 of 24 passes for 104 yards and an interception before giving way to Williams. Cam'Ron Harris ran for 60 yards for Miami, including a 1-yard dive in the second quarter following Pitt's third turnover in the opening 16 minutes. - Miami/AP College Football
