  09/28/20 - Deandre JohnsonrSr/2022, Miami, 6-3, 252 (DS#44 DE) + More +

SEPT 28 SEC DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Deandre Johnson, Edge, Tennessee,...Johnson, making his third career start, delivered the best game of his career in a 31-27 win at South Carolina. The edge rusher finished with a career-high six tackles, a career-best 2.5 sacks for a loss of 11 yards and one forced fumble. The 2.5 sacks led all SEC players in Week 1 and were the most by a Vol since Darrell Taylor had four against Kentucky on Nov. 10, 2018. Johnson's forced fumble in the second quarter stalled a Gamecocks drive. Two of his sacks came on third down, including a critical one in the fourth quarter. - SEC Football

D'Eriq King threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns in three quarters and No. 12 Miami beat Florida State 52-10 on Saturday night. Cam'Ron Harris and Don Chaney scored twice and Brevin Jordan and Dee Wiggins each caught touchdown passes for Miami (3-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). Miami scored touchdowns on its five possessions and built a 35-point lead at halftime. The margin of victory was the largest for Miami in the series since a 47-0 rout in 1976, the first season of Bobby Bowden's 34-year coaching career at Florida State. The Seminoles (0-2, 0-2) were without head coach Mike Norvell, who tested positive for coronavirus and remained in Tallahassee under quarantine. Assistant Chris Thomsen served as head coach. King capped the Hurricanes' game-opening drive with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jordan. - AP College Football

  09/24/20 - CamRon HarrisSr/2022, Miami, 5-09, 214 (DS#33 RB) + More +

On WQAM's Hurricane Hotline, Diaz made a good point in explaining one under-the-radar reason for Cam'Ron Harris' improvement this season: "Cam's work in the weight room has allowed him to maintain his speed throughout the course of a [long] run." On his 75-yard run on Saturday, "he would have been pushed out of bounds three quarters of the way last year. He hit 23 mph on our GPS" on that run. Diaz also believes Jaylon Knighton's presence has pushed Harris to improve. - Miami Herald

  09/24/20 - Navaughn DonaldsonrSr/2022, Miami, 6-5, 350 (DS#89 OG) + More +

Manny Diaz offered updates on two of UM's blue-chip recruits who haven't played this season. Guard Navaughn Donaldson, recovering from knee surgery after last season, "is not cleared for full contact practice," Diaz said. "He's working with our trainers and getting his movement skills back. He does some walk-through things for us when we're not in a contact setting for the offensive line." Diaz previously said that Donaldson might play at some point this season. Donaldson, a senior, previously announced plans to redshirt, but no matter how many games he plays this season, he would retain eligibility next season. That's because the NCAA is giving everyone an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19. - Miami Herald

  09/23/20 - CamRon HarrisSr/2022, Miami, 5-09, 214 (DS#33 RB) + More +

When Rhett Lashlee arrived as UM's offensive coordinator in January, he knew he had a solid lead running back in Cam'Ron Harris. But he didn't know he had this - a player who has been more impactful than nearly any other running back in the country two weeks into the season. I asked Lashlee if Harris is even better than what he expected after watching Harris' film in January and February. "When I first got here, Cam seemed like a solid back," Lashlee said. "Four days of spring ball he really impressed me. He's faster than what I thought he was, more explosive than what I thought he was. First two games, he has shown flashes of that. Really glad he has had a strong first two games." Not only is Harris third in the country in rushing yards at 268, but his 10.3 average - bolstered by two long TD runs - places him fourth in yards per carry. Only Texas-San Antonio's Sincere McCormick and SMU's Ulysses Bentley IV have more rushing yards than Harris in FBS. - Miami Herald

  09/23/20 - Bubba BoldenSr/2022, Miami, 6-2, 209 (DS#16 SS) + More +

University of Miami coach Manny Diaz said that he got a text from safety Bubba Bolden on Sunday. "Bubba was very active. He played very fast and very hard,'' Diaz told WQAM during his weekly interview on Monday morning. "Bubba texted me yesterday and said, 'Coach I really played poorly, and I just want you to know I'm going to play a lot better next week." Very impressive considering Bolden, a 6-3, 200-pound redshirt junior who last season transferred to UM and originally played at Southern Cal, was making plays everywhere on the field in the Hurricanes' 47-34 win at Louisville on Saturday night. Bolden led all players with 11 tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. "Our guys don't feel like that they played very well,'' Diaz said. "They feel like they played very hard, they feel like they competed...They know that their fight and their desire and the way they stuck together is what grinded out the win, but from Bubba on I think the guys really feel, 'Hey, let's get back to work. I can play a lot better than this." - Miami Herald

  09/19/20 - DEriq KingrSr/2022, Miami, 5-09, 197 (DS#55 WR) + More +

D'Eriq King threw three touchdown passes and No. 17 Miami used big plays to beat No. 18 Louisville 47-34 on Saturday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. King threw a 75-yarder touchdown pass to Jaylon Knighton in the third quarter, a series after Cam'ron Harris ran 75 yards for a score. Miami (2-0) led 20-6 at halftime before Louisville (1-1) scored twice in a wild third to get within seven. The Hurricanes answered both TDs on their next snap against an out-of-place defense, with Knighton wide open for his catch that made it 34-20. Knighton also had a 3-yard TD run in the first half after King threw a 17-yard scoring pass to Will Mallory.

King also hit Brevin Jordan with a 47-yard TD pass in the fourth to finish with 325 yards on 18-of-30 passing. Jose Borregales added four field goals, including first-half kicks of 48 and 57 yards, with the latter breaking the Cardinal Stadium record for an opponent by 6 yards and the overall mark by 5. Louisville's Micale Cunningham passed for 307 yards and three TDs, two to Tutu Atwell, and Javian Hawkins had a 19-yard TD run and finished with 164 yards on 27 carries. But the Cardinals couldn't stop Miami for much of the game and lost their second in a row to the 'Canes despite outgaining them 516-485. The game was played before a sellout crowd of 12,120. - Miami/AP College Football

  09/16/20 - Quincy RocherSr/2021, Miami, 6-3, 245 (DS#7 OLB) + More +

Canes defensive coordinator Blake Baker said Phillips and Roche were "outstanding" in the opener against the Blazers, citing "10 quarterback hits and 16 pressures," and their finesse "especially vs. the run." Diaz explained earlier in the week when reviewing the UAB game, that "UAB was not going to drop back and throw the football." "They were going to run it [and] there was going to be play-action, quick passes in the flats. There were a couple times we saw if we just used our technique a little bit better in some of our coverages, [that if] the quarterback [held] the ball for maybe a half second longer he was about to get hit in the back. "It's about being relentless, its about staying after it. The sacks generally tend to come as that happens." Hurricanes starting middle linebacker Bradley Jennings Jr. said Tuesday that the defensive line's aggressiveness "helped the linebackers play a lot faster and read better." "They were flying off the ball, keeping the O-linemen off me and letting us run and make plays." - Miami Herald

  09/10/20 - CamRon HarrisSr/2022, Miami, 5-09, 214 (DS#33 RB) + More +

Cam'Ron Harris ran for 134 yards and scored twice to lead Miami to a 31-14 season-opening win over UAB Thursday night. Harris' second touchdown from 4 yards late in the third period gave Miami a 24-14 lead after the Blazers of Conference USA got within three on Spencer Brown's 6-yard run. Houston graduate transfer D'Eriq King threw for a touchdown and scored one for Miami, which became the first school from a Power 5 conference to begin the game-depleted 2020 season. ACC, SEC and Big 12 schools will play football while the Big Ten and Pac-12 cancelled fall sports because of coronavirus concerns. King's 4-yard pass to Brevin Jordan with time expiring in the third quarter gave Miami its final margin. Thursday's attendance of 8,153 at Hard Rock Stadium fell short of the 20 percent cap allowed at the 65,000-seat venue's capacity in compliance with coronavirus social-distancing guidelines. Spectators were scattered throughout the stadium's lower and upper decks. - Miami/AP College Football
