The issue of mental health remains front and center within college football and one Alabama starter isn't afraid to discuss it. Offensive guard Javion Cohen over the summer was open about his visit to a rehabilitation center for what he called "mental health reasons" and he spoke more about it Wednesday. Making his first appearance this fall in the interview room, Cohen was asked about opening up about his journey. "It was wonderful," Cohen said. "It wasn't difficult that much because of the support system I had around me. I want to give a lot of props to Coach Saban and the entire staff that have supported me and allowed me to take that time off for my health. That was wonderful." Back in July, Cohen posted on Instagram about the month he spent at a Herren Wellness facility in July.

While sharing photos of the facility and the books he read, Cohen's caption began discussing "the pressure we feel as athletes is insurmountable and can be too much at times." Cohen was the second Alabama offensive lineman who spent time at Herren Wellness as freshmen Dayne Shor also posted about his struggles. Shor later transferred to UConn. Cohen, a junior from Phenix City, returned to Tuscaloosa and has started six of the seven games this season at left guard. There's no stigma surrounding mental health for Cohen. "It wasn't difficult at all sharing because I believe that's something that we all should pay attention to in our day-to-day lives," Cohen said. "It's important to pay attention to your mental health and put that first." - Birmingham News

Alabama offensive lineman Javion Cohen shared Tuesday that he has spent the past month at a rehabilitation facility in Massachusetts for "mental health reasons." Cohen, a junior who started at left guard last season, wrote on Instagram, "the pressure we feel as athletes is unsurmountable and can be too much at times." He shared a series of photographs from Herren Wellness, the substance abuse treatment facility founded by former NBA player Chris Herren. One of the photographs shows Cohen reading two books on the facility's grounds, including, "Refuge Recovery: A Buddhist Path to Recovering From Addiction" by Noah Levine. Cohen is the second Alabama offensive lineman to spend time at Herren Wellness in recent months. Freshman Dayne Shor revealed his struggle with mental health after entering the transfer portal in May and later transferred to Connecticut. - Birmingham News

Alabama experienced a mass exodus for the NFL draft on offense, and only a couple starters return. The offensive line has two of those; three if you count Owens, who has starting experience. Neal is expected to slide over to left tackle, a position at which he has experience from high school. He played right tackle last year after spending his freshman year at left guard. With his experience and talent, he'll serve as the anchor of the new group while he protects Bryce Young's blindside.

Owens could continue right where he left off, stepping in to start at center in place of Dickerson, who was injured and could not play in the national championship game. But he's not a long-entrenched starter at the spot. Ekiyor will likely start at right guard again this season. As for left guard, Cohen will probably be the starter, coach Nick Saban said at SEC Media Days. He added that Cohen has "developed very nicely." Randolph got the start at right tackle in the spring game, but it's not guaranteed he will be the guy at that spot against Miami. - Montgomery Advertiser
