A good portion of Malik Cunningham's spring was devoted to getting him more comfortable passing in the pocket as opposed to being more prone to run. He showed progress in that during the spring and continued the work over the summer. Part of that was developing even more confidence in his receivers group, which was built both on and off the field. With more at his disposal, the hope is that Cunningham can do less while still being a dynamic, dual-threat quarterback for the Cardinals. Last year, Cunningham totaled a team-high 1,031 rushing yards - fifth-most in the ACC - becoming the second Cardinals quarterback to reach 1,000 rushing yards after Lamar Jackson accomplished the feat in 2016 and 2017. Cunningham also threw for 2,941 yards, becoming the second player in school history to eclipse 2,800 yards with 19 rushing and passing touchdowns in a season for a combined total of 39.

His numbers helped Louisville's total offense to rank No. 14 in the country, though it didn't always translate into wins for the squad. The Alabama native will have one last fall camp with the Cardinals to make the necessary adjustments to his game to not just help himself and preserve his longevity, but also to use the depth he has around him. "A lot of receivers that we're going to have this year didn't really play last year, didn't have really much production. A couple of them did, so just working on the things that I'm going to be doing in the game, simulate game-like stuff, just getting those throws in and working on all aspects of the game," Cunningham said of his offseason focus. "Moving in the pocket, throwing off platform, going through all my reads, checking down to the running backs, not looking to run - things like that." - Courier Journal

Louisville underwent five coaching changes during the offseason. The team brought back Nic Cardwell to coach the offensive line, in addition to hiring Wesley McGriff to coach the secondary and serve as co-defensive coordinator and Josh Stepp to take over the tight ends room. Greg Gasparato moved from coaching safeties to outside linebackers and Lance Taylor became the new offensive coordinator. It is Taylor's job to ramp up the receivers so quarterback Malik Cunningham can run less and pass more. Part of that was developing even more confidence in his receivers group.

After the first day of UNLV football preseason practice, sophomore quarterback Harrison Bailey (6-5, 225) admitted he was a bit "shaky" and made a few mistakes. But that was to be expected as the Rebels began to prepare for their Aug. 27 season opener against Idaho State. Coming off a 2-10 record last season, third-year UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo cramming a lot of football into a short period of time. He is looking for vast improvement. Bailey's focus is to build chemistry with his new teammates after transferring from Tennessee. He embraces the challenge. "When the quarterback speaks, everybody listens," he said. "Being that vocal leader can take this team to the next level. That's one of the things I've been working on." Junior Doug Brumfield and sophomore Cameron Friel are in competition with Bailey for the starting spot.

In two seasons at Tennessee, Bailey started three games, completed 51 of 75 passes for 594 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. More was expected of him after he was an Elite 11 finalist in 2019 following a great high schools career at Marietta High School, where he threw for 11,716 yards to rank fourth in Georgia history and become one of just five Georgia players to surpass 10,000 career passing yards, joining Trevor Lawrence (13,902), Deshaun Watson (13,077), Jake Fromm (12,745) and K'Hari Lane (10,217) - Las Vegas Review

He was one of the driving forces behind a Louisville offense that averaged 212.9 rushing yards per game, which ranked 22nd in the country. The conference nod was Chandler's third of the preseason accolade after being named to the Sporting News and Athlon Preseason All-American teams.

Louisville football head coach Scott Satterfield has affectionately named the Monty Montgomery and Ole Miss transfer Momo Sanogo the "M&M Boys." The duo will line up side by side this season to help bolster the Cardinals' linebacker group. It'll be a new look with more depth behind Montgomery, who produced 46 tackles in 2020 and 17 tackles over three games in 2021 before tearing his ACL, and Sanogo, who has already made an impression on the team as one of its leaders. Sanogo produced 210 tackles, 12 for loss, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles during his time with the Rebels. The Texan was also on the Butkus Award watch list in 2019. "They feed off each other because Momo, he's got a lot of energy and juice, too, just like Monty," Satterfield said Wednesday during the ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, North Carolina. "I'm anxious to see them two in action this fall camp. It's gonna be fun." - Courier Journal
