In the secondary, Evans and Mims shined in their first seasons as starters in '18.   07/14/19 - Joe BurrowrSr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 221 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Burrow was never going to leave here after Monday's appearance at Southeastern Conference media days supplanting Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa as the preseason all-conference quarterback. But he certainly left an impression as a guy who oozes confidence. It takes confidence to complete your suit and tie ensemble with purple rimmed dress shoes (a gift from his mother Robin) and Road Runner - as in Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner of Saturday morning cartoon fame - blue socks. "It's because I'm so fast," Burrow said of the socks. It may be July, but his swagger is in midseason form.

What Burrow may lack in pure talent compared to Tua or Georgia's Jake Fromm or Missouri's Kelly Bryant he makes up for with that undefinable "It" factor. The quality that leads other men and compels them magnetically to follow. The jangling self-confidence of a frontier lawman that tells them, "Come on, you (bleeps), follow me. We're going to win some games." Joe knows leadership.

And his teammates, like center Lloyd Cushenberry, know it about him, too. "Having a quarterback like that who is a true competitor rubs off on the team," Cushenberry said. Opponents like Florida's superb defensive lineman Jabari Zuniga sing a similar tune. "He doesn't say much, but you can tell he's a competitor," said Zuniga, who sacked Burrow in last year's game. "I have a lot of respect for him." - Baton Rouge Advocate

  07/11/19 - *Grant DelpitJr/2020, LSU, 6-2, 213 (DS#1 SS) + More +

Ed Orgeron has seen plenty of talented defensive backs in his coaching career, from Hall of Fame safety Troy Polamalu during his stint as defensive line coach at Southern Cal, to his recent years at LSU with first-round picks like safety Jamal Adams and cornerback Tre'Davious White. As far as a collective group, Orgeron said the defensive backs on LSU's 2019 football team may top all the ones he's seen in his 35 years of coaching. "This may be one of the best secondaries I've ever been around," Orgeron said in an interview on 104.5 ESPN's "Off the Bench" Thursday morning.

LSU lost cornerback Greedy Williams, a finalist for the Thorpe Award in 2018, to the NFL draft; but out of the five listed defensive back positions, LSU returns four defensive backs that started in at least four games, including unanimous All-American safety Grant Delpit, who will wear the team's coveted No. 7 jersey this season. Kristian Fulton, a 6-foot, 192-pound senior corner, may have departed for the NFL had he not suffered a foot injury that required season-ending surgery - and a permanent screw in his left foot - in a Week 10 win at Arkansas. - Baton Rouge Advocate

It's looking like three of the four starters should be First rounders in the future with two of them top 10's. Loaded. All of them should be in the news pretty heavy most the season.
