He's also averaging 268.3 yards passing to rank among the top 20 quarterbacks overall nationwide. He's thrown eight touchdowns and just one interception.   LSU moved up to No. 2 in The Associated Press college football poll, giving the Southeastern Conference the top two teams in the country for the 29th time and putting the Tigers behind No. 1 Alabama less than a month before the rivals meet in Tuscaloosa. The Tigers jumped from No. 5, past No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Ohio State, after beating Florida in a matchup of unbeaten teams Saturday night. LSU received 12 first-place votes Sunday in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank while Alabama received 30 first-place votes and is No. 1 for the third consecutive week. The Crimson Tide host the Tigers on Nov. 9. One conference has held the top two spots 75 times since the AP poll started in 1936, none more than the SEC. The now-defunct Big Eight is next with 23.

Clemson received 11 first-place votes Sunday and Ohio State had nine. Oklahoma was No. 5 and Wisconsin became the first new team to crack the top six after Georgia suffered the biggest upset of the season so far. The Bulldogs dropped from No. 3 to No. 10 after losing at home to South Carolina in double overtime. Georgia is the highest-ranked team to lose to an unranked team this season. The Bulldogs had been steady at No. 3 since the preseason. They were among a season-high eight ranked teams to lose this weekend, including four to unranked teams. Penn State moved up to No. 7. Florida's loss at LSU cost the ninth-ranked Gators two spots. Notre Dame was No. 8, two spots ahead of Georgia, which won a close game at home against the Irish last month. - AP College Football

Joe Burrow passed for 293 yards and three touchdowns, and fifth-ranked LSU scored three straight touchdowns after falling behind early in the second half to emerge with a 42-28 victory over No. 7 Florida on Saturday night. Facing a Florida defense that came in leading the nation in interceptions and leading the Southeastern Conference in sacks, the Tigers (6-0, 2-0 SEC) totaled 511 yards without giving up a sack or committing a turnover. Ja'Marr Chase had 127 yards receiving and the last of his two touchdowns was a 54-yarder to give LSU a two-score lead with 5:43 left. Justin Jefferson caught 10 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Burrow, meanwhile, went 21 of 24, meaning he had the same number of touchdown tosses and incomplete passes. Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 134 yards and two scores on 13 carries. The Tigers still have yet to score fewer than 42 points in a game this season. Kyle Trask was 23-of-39 passing for 310 yards and three touchdowns for Florida (6-1, 3-1), but was done in by freshman Derek Stingley Jr.'s interception in the LSU end zone in the fourth quarter, when the Gators were trying to tie the game. Soon after, Burrow spotted Chase running free down the right sideline, and a Tiger Stadium crowd more than 100,000 strong was in virtual delirium. Florida led 28-21 after opening the second half with an eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with Van Jefferson's second touchdown catch of the game. But LSU tied it less than four minutes later on Edwards-Helaire's 5-yard run. Tryron Davis-Price put the Tigers back in front with a 33-yard run on LSU's next possession. - LSU/AP College Football

  10/07/19 - Rashard LawrenceSr/2020, LSU, 6-2, 308 (DS#11 DT) + More +

LSU coach Ed Orgeron says pass-rushing linebacker Michael Divinity and defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence are expected to practice this week and "hopefully" will play Saturday night when the fifth-ranked Tigers host No. 7 Florida. Orgeron says starting left tackle Saahdiq Charles also is expected to return to the lineup after being held out last Saturday against Utah State because of what Orgeron called a "coach's decision." The coach says reserve offensive lineman Charles Turner also "should be ready" if needed.

Less clear is whether defensive lineman Glenn Logan, who started the Tigers' first two games, will be ready to return this weekend. Logan has missed all of LSU's past three games with an apparent lower left leg injury and Orgeron says he's expected to practice this week on a limited basis. LSU's coach also is ruling out reserve offensive tackle Badara Traore and says it looks doubtful that defensive back Cordale Flott will be able to play. They both have undisclosed injuries. - AP College Football

Joe Burrow became the first LSU quarterback to eclipse 300 yards passing in four straight games and threw for five touchdowns to help the fifth-ranked Tigers defeat Utah State 42-6 on Saturday. Burrow, who has finished only one fourth quarter this season because of lopsided scores, has completed 78.3 percent of his passes for 1,864 yards and 22 touchdowns through five games as he remains on pace to threaten most LSU single-season passing records. Burrow completed 27 of 38 passes for 344 yards and was intercepted once on a tipped pass against Utah State before being replaced by Myles Brennan on LSU's second series of the fourth quarter. Burrow also rushed for 42 yards and touchdown.

Justin Jefferson caught two scoring passes for LSU (5-0). His second TD on a 39-yard throw was the completion on which Burrow surpassed 300 yards. Burrow's other TD strikes went to Derrick Dillon, JaMarr Chase and tight end Thaddeus Moss. LSU's defense largely bottled up an up-tempo Utah State offense that came in averaging 533 yards 38.5 points per game. The Tigers intercepted quarterback Jordan Love three times. Freshman Derek Stingley Jr. displayed veteran-like savvy when he timed a spinning leap to high-point Love's fade pass to the right pylon in front of the intended receivers. Stingley held on for his second interception this season as he crashed down on his back at the LSU 1-yard line, and LSU responded with a 99-yard touchdown drive. - LSU/AP College Football
