The Rams are 11-29 over the past four seasons and were 7-6 each of the three years before that. Adazzio lasted just two seasons before Parker, a former All-American swimmer at Michigan who was a senior associate athletic director at the school from 2003 to 2011, pried Norvell from a conference foe. Norvell has been coaching since 1986, once his playing career at Iowa ended. He's had stops in the Big Ten, Big 12, and Pac-12 with a six-year NFL stint in the middle. Nevada was his first head job. He reached four bowl games and went 33-26 over five seasons, culminating with an 8-4 regular-season record last year.

He brought his Air Raid offense and several Nevada transfers with him to Fort Collins. Quarterback Clay Millen was a four-star recruit according to 247Sports, and though he only threw two passes as a true freshman last season, early reviews are promising. He figures to be Colorado State's starter. "Clay is a really smart player. He's kind of your thinking man's quarterback," Norvell said after the spring game, per the Denver Post. "He understands how to use the offense and he's just really starting to feel comfortable playing." - Ann Arbor News

A pair of Florida Gators football players have been named to the Walter Camp 2022 Preseason All-America teams, the foundation announced this week. Offensive lineman O'Cyrus Torrence, who transferred to UF from Louisiana prior to the spring semester, was named to the first-team offense, while junior defensive tackle Gervon Dexter earned a place on the second-team defense. The Walter Camp 2022 Preseason All-America teams, the longest-running All-America team in the nation, are comprised of 50 players across 32 schools representing eight NCAA Division I conferences.

As a junior at Louisiana in 2021, Torrence started and appeared in 11 games with the Ragin' Cajuns, and he was a driving force behind a protection unit that allowed just 1.86 sacks per contest last season. Louisiana's offense finished the season ranked 10th nationally in total offense and 18th in total touchdowns, and Torrence earned Joe Moore Award semifinalist honors for the second consecutive season for his efforts with the program. - Gainesville Sun

A judge on Wednesday gave a homework assignment to Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson - an essay explaining his reason for speeding 105 mph and what he learned after spending 12 hours in traffic school. Alachua County Court Judge Meshon Rawls also fined Richardson $349 after his lawyer entered a plea of no contest to a charge of speeding at least 30 mph over the limit. The judge appeared dissatisfied with Richardson's explanation about why he was driving so fast, that he wasn't paying attention when a sheriff's deputy stopped him at 4:11 a.m. on April 4. "I just remember driving home that night," Richardson said during his court hearing. "I was putting in my maps, and I didn't realize I was going that fast because I looked up and seen blue lights, and that's pretty much all I remember." Richardson's lawyer, Joshua Houston, asked the judge not to assess points against the player's driver's license.

The judge balked after she learned that just weeks before Richardson was ticketed for 105 mph in Florida, he was also ticketed for driving 90 mph on an interstate in Georgia in a 70 mph zone. "I don't think there is a compelling circumstance or explanation for 105 mph," Rawls said. It wasn't clear why Richardson's lawyers didn't better prepare the player to explicitly apologize, express regret or offer a fuller, more credible explanation for driving so fast. Richardson spoke for about 13 seconds during the hearing, except to occasionally respond, "Yes, ma'am" to the judge. The judge said she would reconsider whether to assess points against Richardson's license if he submitted an essay, which Houston promised would happen within one week. - Gainesville Sun

  06/06/22 - Tim TebowSr/2010, Florida + More +

Tim Tebow, who led Florida to two national championships and won the 2007 Heisman Trophy, is among the former players making a first appearance on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot. The National Football Foundation announced on Monday the players and coaches eligible for election into the Hall of Fame, and 11 of the 80 FBS players are debuting on the ballot. Hall of Fame ballots go to more than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers. The votes are considered by the NFF's Honors Courts, which then deliberates and selects a class of about a dozen players and two or three coaches.

College Football Hall of Famer and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin from Ohio State is the chairman of the Honors Court, which includes athletic administrators, Hall of Famers and members of the media from all over the country. Some of the other former players on the ballot for the first time are quarterback Alex Smith of Utah, wide receiver Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State, running back Ki-Jana Carter of Penn State, linebacker Luke Kuechly of Boston College and defensive lineman Dewey Selmon of Oklahoma. Tebow was the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy, and he was a three-time SEC offensive player of the year who set 28 school records during his career from 2006-09. - AP College Football

  06/01/22 - R.J. MotenrSr/2025, Florida + More +

R.J. Moten went from an afterthought as a true freshman to definite rotation player, if not starter, in a matter of months. He impressed the staff so much last spring and fall, he earned his first career start in the Wolverines' season opener last September against Western Michigan. It was his first of five starts at safety, backing up Hill, who took on an all-econmpassing, rover-type role that called for him lining up every which way. With Hill often tasked with defending an opponent's top receiver, it allowed Moten to get his feet wet and learn how to play at a high level on a weekly basis.

Listed at 6 feet and 221 pounds, Moten doesn't come across as intimidating - but he has knack for finding the football and making plays. In 14 starts last season, the Delran, N.J., native racked up 34 tackles (27 of them solo), contributed an interception and had four pass breakups. "Last year, I was a little down there (on the totem pole)," Moten acknowledged this spring. "But this year, without them, it's my turn to step up and be that Dax or Brad that they were last year." Moten and Rod Moore, who played as a true freshman last year, are the frontrunners to start at safety for Michigan this fall. And while their experience level might not be that of their predecessors, the coaching staff liked what the saw last season. - Ann Arbor News

A spot was taken just six days prior when the Gators reached into the transfer portal and added Arizona State transfer wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, the Sun Devils' leading pass-catcher during the 2021 season. Pearsall has already arrived in Gainesville in time for the phase five, summer regimen, of Napier's eight-phase plan, giving him more than two months to acclimate to the program and develop relationships with his teammates and new coaches. With Pearsall hailing from Arizona State, where Napier previously worked as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, there was familiarity between the parties prior to his decision and arrival in Florida.

As the talent-acquisition portion of the upcoming season draws closer to a close, the Gators have made recent moves to improve the roster, whether it's via the transfer portal or elevating a walk-on to scholarship. "We felt like Ricky's skill set fit our team, fit our offense. We had some familiarity. There was some relationships there because the year in Arizona State some of our staff members, some of the common relationships," Napier said. "So I think Ricky's a good person. I think he's competitive. I think that he's proved himself...I think he can catch the ball. He's proved to be a run-after-catch player. I think he's got some toughness to his game. He can play on special teams. I think he gives; we're adding a player that has had a ton of production in the past and we feel like the player can help our team." - Gainesville Sun

The numbers don't accurately convey Ricky Pearsall's worth. Not the 48 catches last season at Arizona State. Not the three stars assigned to his high school recruiting ranking. Certainly not the clunky 4.65 time he posted at a camp several years ago. On Wednesday afternoon, as the former Pac-12 receiver boarded a connecting flight from Tempe to Gainesville, his father spoke with The Athletic about why the coveted transfer chose Florida over Oregon, the impact of teaming up with quarterback Anthony Richardson, and why the NIL component of his recruitment is being overblown. "Ultimately, it came down to Billy Napier and his staff," said Ricky Pearsall Sr., who described the daily communication from Florida as "pure and genuine" over the past month. Pearsall entered the portal April 21, though the thought of transferring had been weighing upon him ever since his close friend, quarterback Jayden Daniels, departed in February for LSU.

The family visited Florida's campus in late April, and Pearsall's father called the trip impressive, featuring an array of touchpoints, including a training staff "that's superior at keeping athletes healthy and on the field." It boiled down to an Oregon-Florida duel as the Pearsalls dug into evaluating both quarterback situations. They looked at spring film of Richardson and Ducks newcomer Bo Nix, himself a transfer from Auburn. Whereas Nix was a three-year SEC starter with more than 1,000 college pass attempts, Richardson has started one game and thrown 66 passes. "Anthony has a great amount of potential that we really liked, but he hasn't seen the field as much because he's young," said Pearsall Sr. "Bo Nix has shown that he can produce." - The Athletic, Florida

Kickoff times are beginning to trickle out for the 2022 Florida football season, coach Billy Napier's first at the helm. The Gators will take on the defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, on Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m., with the game set to be broadcast on CBS. The contest in Jacksonville at TIAA Bank Field marks the 100th matchup between UF and UGA. The SEC Eastern Division rivals first met on the field during the 1915 season, and the game has since been an annual rivalry in all but seven seasons. The game has been played in Jacksonville since 1933, with the exception of the 1994 and 1995 seasons, when the stadium was undergoing renovations.

The Bulldogs hold a 53-44-2 lead in the series with the Gators. A week after UGA's first national championship in 41 years, Napier congratulated the Bulldogs on their accomplishment. While the Florida-Georgia kickoff time may not come as a surprise, Florida's kickoff with another rival has an atypical setup. The Gators will hit the road to face Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, which falls on a Friday rather than the traditional Saturday contest. The UF-FSU game will be broadcast on ABC. - Gainesville Sun

Ricky Pearsall, Arizona State's leading receiver in 2021, is headed to Gainesville to play for the Florida Gators, he announced on Twitter Saturday. Pearsall entered the transfer portal last month, continuing the major roster turnover ASU football is facing. The Tempe native and former Corona Del Sol High School athlete had 48 receptions for 580 yards and four touchdowns during his junior year last season. He was a consensus three-star recruit out of high school after earning 2018 Arizona Football Coaches Association All-6A First Team selection. Pearsall caught seven passes in 13 games as a true freshman in 2019 then had six receptions in four games during the COVID-19 pandemic-affected 2020 season. He broke out as quarterback Jayden Daniels' favorite target in 2021. - Arizonasports.com

Former Arizona State wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who entered the transfer portal this offseason, has announced his commitment to Florida on social media. The Gators landed the former three-star recruit over Auburn and Oregon, who each made his top three list this month. Before opting to transfer to Florida, Ricky Pearsall became Arizona State's leading receiver in 2021 with 48 catches for 580 yards and four touchdowns. Over 24 career games, he has 794 receiving yards with five touchdowns, adding 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well. Coming out of high school, Pearsall ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 1,208 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus. He also ranked as the No. 164 wide receiver and No. 21 player in his home state of Arizona. The On3 Transfer Portal Rankings have Pearsall listed as the No. 20 wide receiver this season and he had moved into the top five best players available by the time he committed. - On3.com

Scoping SEC QB transfers: Eleven quarterbacks transferred to 10 SEC schools this offseason, with South Carolina's Spencer Rattler the lone guaranteed starter of the entire group. Here ares On3.com ratings. No 8 - Jack Miller, Florida (from Ohio State). Miller had a chance to unseat Anthony Richardson as Florida's potential starting quarterback this spring, but AR-15 ran away with the competition. Although Miller, a former blue-chip recruit in the 2020 class, struggled in the spring game, he stands to be Richardson's primary backup and considering Richardson's recent injury history, the Ohio State transfer could certainly see action at some point this fall. - On3.com

Derek Wingo, the No. 5 outside linebacker and the No. 64 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting class in 247Sports' composite rankings, made strides throughout the spring after appearing in all 13 games in 2021, though Wingo is now playing inside rather than outside on the edge. "Derek has been awesome. I think he loves football and loves Florida," inside linebacker coach Jay Bateman said. "I feel like he's probably putting some pressure on himself, but I think he's doing it at a really high level right now. His situation is unique - I recruited him in high school, tried to - because it's a very different position than he played growing up. I think he's just starting to feel comfortable back there, but he's a stud of a kid."

Despite having already appeared in 22 games during his two seasons with the program, Wingo has recorded just 17 tackles, of which only five have been solo tackles. At inside linebacker, where he'll have to stop both the run and the pass, Wingo will be required to wrap up in the open field and in the backfield, so there's been an emphasis on improving as a tackler since Bateman arrived on campus. - Gainesville Sun

Colorado State quarterback Clay Millen dropped back to pass and unloaded a perfect spiral more than 50 yards down the sideline. Spring game touchdowns don't count for much. But it appears the deep ball, finally, is alive and well for the new-look Rams. Millen's long bomb to wide receiver Tory Horton was a breath of fresh air on a blustery Saturday afternoon at Canvas Stadium. "I knew I had a little bit of wind at my back," Millen said. "My mindset was literally to just try to underthrow it by like two yards and let the wind kind of push it a little bit. It happened to work out really well. I don't think I've played in as much wind as I had right there." Millen - a four-star recruit (via 247Sports) from Snoqualmie, Wash. - appeared in only two games as a true freshman last season at Nevada. He followed Jay Norvell to Fort Collins when he took the CSU head coaching job and Millen entered spring camp as the presumed QB1.

It's no surprise when you consider the roster Norvell inherited. Former starting quarterback Todd Centeio transferred to FCS James Madison and 2021 signee Evan Olaes is coming off a redshirt year. But Millen still needed to earn the trust of new teammates and coaches in establishing a leadership role with the Rams. "Clay is a really smart player. He's kind of your thinking man's quarterback," Norvell said. "He understands how to use the offense and he's just really starting to feel comfortable playing." Millen took another step forward in the spring game completing 22 of 33 passes for 292 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. - Denver Post
