  08/01/22 - John Samuel ShenkerrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-3, 242 (DS#39 TE) + More +

John Samuel Shenker set records last season at Auburn for tight ends with 33 receptions and 413 receiving yards as a security blanket for now departed Bo Nix or TJ Finley. During February's inquiry, Shenker was one of the more vocal Tiger players to stand up for Bryan Harsin. His return to the roster provides experience and leadership. Shenker could break more records this season. "I think with Eric Kiesau; there's a whole different dimension of communication. We are allowing everyone to be on the same page and pushing towards the same goal," Shenker said about his role in the offense. "And to be on that same page is beneficial for our offense. As Tank said, added run emphasis as well. But it also creates better communication with our wide receivers and tight ends." - Birmingham News

His nine sacks were tied for third most in the conference as he earned Second Team All-SEC honors from the coaches. Now entering his fourth season on the Plains, the senior edge has 83 career tackles with 17.5 tackles for loss. "The goals are still the same," Hall said last week while at SEC Media Days.   07/28/22 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

There's no position group more pivotal to Auburn's success in 2022 than the running backs. With uncertainty at quarterback, the Tigers need Bigsby and Hunter to produce in a big way. Bigsby has stepped up in leadership during the offseason as Harsin told reporters last week in Atlanta during SEC Media Days. "I think Tank's one of our most improved guys just as far as the leadership piece. He's a guy that has really taken it upon himself to make sure he's ready every single day," Harsin said. He's pushed himself, he works, he does extra outside the stuff that we do. I think you guys may have seen some of the videos he'll post, but every day-he's come to work every single day; he studies, he's prepared." If Bigsby and Hunter stay healthy with an improved offensive line there's an opportunity for the Tigers to exceed expectations in Harsin's second season as the Tigers' head coach. If the running backs languish Harsin might see his tenure end much sooner than he'd like. - Birmingham News

Auburn opens the season with five consecutive home games against Mercer, San Jose State, Penn State, Missouri and LSU before traveling to face defending national champion Georgia. When a reporter prefaced a question with the statement that the Tigers have a tough schedule, Harsin butted in for a quick second. "Does anybody have an easy schedule in the SEC?" Harsin asked. The reporter went on to ask about the importance of getting off to a hot start with the five at home to open the season. "Home or away, you want to get off to a fast start regardless," Harsin said. "It's great to be in Jordan-Hare Stadium. "To be around our fans, to have those teams coming in, playing in Jordan-Hare, we're excited about that. Hopefully we're having success through those five games." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  07/25/22 - Derick HallSr/2023, Auburn, 6-3, 254 (DS#5 OLB) + More +

Six Auburn Tigers landed on Preseason All-SEC Teams, and Auburn was selected to finish last in the SEC West in the league's annual preseason media poll, which was released Friday. Running back Tank Bigsby, defensive linemen Derick Hall and Colby Wooden, linebacker Owen Pappoe and specialists Oscar Chapman and Anders Carlson were the Tigers' representatives on those teams, with Bigsby and Hall being the lone first-teamers. Bigsby is Auburn's most-productive returner from last year's offense. In 2021, he rushed for 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns while also catching 21 passes. He finished with 1,283 total yards. Hall was Auburn's sack leader with nine, and also had a team-leading 12.5 tackles for loss to go with 52 total tackles. Wooden, who was voted All-SEC Second Team, had 61 tackles to go with 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn will have to overcome some low outside expectations if it hopes to turn heads during Bryan Harsin's second season. Auburn was picked to finish last in the SEC West this season, as voted on by the media at SEC Media Days this week in Atlanta. Rival Alabama was picked to finish atop the division and to win the conference title, while defending national champion Georgia was picked to finish first in the SEC East. Auburn earned 338 vote points in the preseason media poll, which was second-fewest among all SEC teams, ahead of only Vanderbilt -- which, incidentally, received one vote to win the SEC title this season.

The Tigers' 338 points were 52 behind Mississippi State, which was picked to finish sixth in the division. Texas A&M was picked to finish second in the West, behind Alabama, followed by Arkansas, Ole Miss and LSU. Auburn was picked to finish fifth last season, Harsin's first year on the Plains, and finished sixth in the SEC West thanks to a historic backslide at the end of the year. The Tigers went 6-7 inn 2021, losing five straight games to end the year following a 6-2 start to Harsin's inaugural season. Last year's record marked the program's first losing season since 2012, when the Tigers went 3-9. - Birmingham News

2022 PRESEASON RIMINGTON TROPHY WATCHLIST: Nick Brahms, Auburn,...For Brahms, it's the third straight year on the Rimington Trophy Watch List. The senior, who is one of only two centers in the SEC to make the watch list the last three years, has played in 40 career games at Auburn and has started every game at center each of the last two seasons. He was granted an extra year of eligibility this year because of COVID-19. Between Brahms and Kaleb Kim (2019), Auburn has now had a center make the Rimington Trophy Watch List in each of the last four years. In 2014, former All-SEC offensive lineman Reese Dismukes became the first Auburn player to win the Rimington Trophy. - Auburn Football
