  09/14/19 - Elijah RileySr/2020, Army, 5-11, 209 (DS#14 SS) + More +

Army moved on quickly from an emotional loss, even if the sting of failing to pull off a monumental upset still lingers. The Black Knights set several milestones on offense in rolling past the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners 31-13 Saturday at the Alamodome. Army's triple-option offense continued to confound after nearly upsetting then seventh-ranked Michigan on Sept. 7 before falling 24-21 in double overtime in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Senior defensive back Elijah Riley said the Black Knights moved on from that loss, but not everyone was able to forget so easily. "I'm glad they forgot about it right away," Army coach Jeff Monkey said. "I didn't forget about that; I don't know if I'll ever forget about that. So, good for them. Losses like that are going to linger. They're hard, they are hard to overcome. When you've got the No. 7 team beat in their stadium, it's going to linger and it's hard to come back from." Aiding Army's recovery was a late switch at quarterback against UTSA. Jabari Laws started in place of an injured Kevin Hokins Jr. and the Black Knights responded with their most prolific output of the season. Army (2-1) generated season-highs in total yards with 358 and rushing yards with 340 against UTSA (1-2). - AP College Football

  08/30/19 - Kelvin Hopkins Jr.rSr/2020, Army, 5-09, 205 (DS#107 RB) + More +

Stymied off and on by a swarming Rice defense in a tight game, Army quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr. finally did what he's become so accustomed to doing - guiding a time-consuming scoring drive that sank the hard-luck Owls. Army converted five third downs on an 18-play, game-winning drive that took over 9 minutes of the fourth quarter and left the Owls in a hole they couldn't climb out of in the season opener for both teams. Hopkins hit Kell Walker with a 17-yard touchdown pass with 3:48 left and Army escaped with a 14-7 victory on Friday night at Michie Stadium.

Hopkins, who last year became the first player in academy history to run for 1,000 yards and pass for 1,000 yards in a season, finished with 80 yards rushing on 21 carries and was 3 of 8 passing for 53 yards as he operated with a new center and a new backfield. Army, which finished last season ranked No. 19, lost a key part of its offense to graduation with the departure of fullbacks Darnell Woolfolk and Andy Davidson. Woolfolk was the workhorse, accounting for 956 yards and 14 TDs. Senior Connor Slomka (74 carries for 324 yards, 4.4 average and five TDs) and junior Sandon McCoy (16-65, 4.1) were being counted on to carry much of the load this season, but Slomka has been hobbled by an undisclosed injury and did not play. - AP College Football

  06/26/19 - Connor SlomkaSr/2020, Army, 5-11, 235 (DS#15 FB) + More +

President Donald Trump has signed a presidential memorandum ordering the Pentagon to develop a new policy to allow athletes attending the nation's military academies to play professional sports immediately after graduating. The memo says student athletes graduating from the academies and Reserve Officers' Training Corps should be able to defer their military service obligations due to the "short window of time" they have to "take advantage of their athletic talents during which playing professional sports is realistically possible."

It gives the defense secretary 120 days to develop a plan. Trump had said in May that he was considering the change while presenting the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy to the U.S. Military Academy football team. Trump's own Defense Department in 2017 rescinded a policy that allowed the best athletes from the military's service academies to go straight to the pros upon graduation instead of having to first serve on active duty. That meant they had to serve two years of active duty before applying for reserve status to pursue a career in professional sports. - AP College Football
