Quarterback Cale Hellums rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns to lead Army over Temple 21-17 on Friday in the Owls' American Conference opener. Hellums rushed 22 times for the Black Knights (2-1, 1-1), who piled up 281 yards on the ground and beat the Owls (1-3) for a fifth straight time. The senior completed 3 of 6 passes for 36 yards. Hellums marched Army 77 yards in 12 plays on their first possession, scoring on a 15-yard run for a 7-0 lead. The drive took 7:10 off the clock. The Owls answered on the second play of the ensuing drive when Samuel Brown V caught a short pass from Ajari Sheppard and turned it into a 78-yard touchdown for a 7-7 tie that stood through halftime.

Hellums picked up 20 yards on a fourth-and-4 pass to Godspower Nwawuihe then scored on a 12-yard run on the next play for a 14-7 lead in the third quarter. Sheppard fired a 67-yard scoring strike to Colin Chase four plays later to tie it 14-all heading to the fourth. Carl Hardin kicked a 29-yard field goal at the end of an 88-yard drive and Temple led 17-14 with 7:38 left. Hellums finished a 12-play 72-yard drive - that took 6:02 off the clock - with a 3-yard run for the go-ahead score. Sheppard totaled 243 yards and two touchdowns on 11-for-20 passing in his first career start. The senior transfer from Washington State spent his first two seasons at Rutgers and had two career pass attempts - both completions - entering play. Brown had 96 yards on 10 carries. Temple head coach K.C. Keeler said the Sept. 29 AC/DC show at Lincoln Financial Field was a factor in the Owls agreeing to move the game to Friday. - AP College Football

Cade Hellums accounted for three touchdowns, and Godspower Nwawuihe rushed for two in a 41-16 win over UConn in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Saturday. Hellums tied the game 7-7 after an opening UConn score by finding Noah Short for a 40-yard strike. Short was the only Army player with a reception, finishing with seven for 108 yards. Nwawuihe gave the Black Knights (7-6) their first lead of the day with 3:04 left in the second quarter, scampering for a 43-yard touchdown run. He broke free for a 70-yard score less than a minute into the second half, putting Army up by 10. He had 171 yards on 12 attempts.

Hellums added two touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards in the second half. He was 7-of-8 passing for 108 yards with 45 on the ground. Jake Rendina had 14 carries for 87 yards, and Carson Smith had 49 yards and a touchdown in a 368-yard rushing day for the Black Knights. Cam Edwards had the opening score of the game on a 12-yard rush for the Huskies (9-4). He had 108 yards on 11 carries. Ksaan Farrar also scored on a quarterback keeper in the fourth quarter. He was 11-of-17 passing for 84 yards. UConn was without star quarterback Joe Fagnano, who, after throwing for 3,448 yards, 28 touchdowns and one interception, opted out of the game to prepare for the NFL Draft. UConn was led by interim head coach Gordon Sammis. Head coach Jim Mora will take over at Colorado State next season. It's the second bowl win in as many years for Army under head coach Jeff Monken, and the sixth out of seven appearances in his 12-year tenure. - Army/AP College Football

Cale Hellums threw the first touchdown pass to an Army tight end since 2008 for the go-ahead score in a 27-24 victory over UTSA on Saturday. Hellums completed two fourth-down passes during a 13-play, 75-yard drive that took over six minutes and ended with his 4-yard toss to Parker Poloskey with 2:49 to go. UTSA's final drive ended on downs. Army (6-5, 4-4 American) had to have the win in this conference finale to become bowl eligible as matchups are announced Dec. 7, before the Black Knights' regular-season finale against Navy on Dec. 13 in Baltimore.

Owen McCown threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes to rally UTSA (6-6, 4-4), taking a 24-20 lead on his 7-yard pass to Jamel Hardy. The Roadrunners had cut the Black Knights' lead to 20-17 on McCown's 8-yard toss to Patrick Overmyer. Army trailed 10-0 early then scored 17 straight points before halftime beginning with Noah Short taking a pitch and running for an 81-yard score. Jaydan Mayes took a tipped pass and ran it back for a 73-yard pick-6. USTA wide receiver David Amador II threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Overmyer for the game's first points. Short rushed for 127 yards on 14 carries and Hellums added 90 on 23. Hellums threw just 10 passes, completing four, including the three crucial ones in the fourth quarter. Dawson Jones kicked two field goals. McCown was 27-of-40 for 266 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The loss snapped UTSA's run of 25 straight home wins against conference opponents, which had been the longest such streak in the FBS. - Army/AP College Football

Cale Hellums ran for 118 yards and a touchdown as the quarterback helped Army dominate the clock for a 14-13 win over Temple on Saturday. The Black Knights (5-4, 3-3 American Athletic Conference) kept the ball 15 more minutes than the Owls (5-5, 3-3). Temple punted the ball away with 9:53 left in the game and never got another snap as Army ran 18 plays to run out the clock. The drive started on the Army 42. The Black Knights converted a fourth-and-1 on the Temple 35 and another from the 14. Army finished the day 4 of 5 on fourth downs, 7 of 14 on third. The Owls were ready to concede a touchdown but Hellums slid at the Temple 4, kept the ball for 3 yards on the next play and had a pair of kneel downs to wrap it up.

Army had an 11-play, 73-yard drive to take a 7-0 on a 7-yard run by Jake Rendina early in the second quarter. A field goal on the last play of the first half gave Temple a 10-7 lead but Hellums' 3-yard run capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive, taking up 8:21, to open the second half for Army's final points. The only other possession of the third quarter ended in a Temple field goal with 22 seconds left. Hellums was 1 of 3 for 26 yards. Temple quarterback Evan Simon was 15 of 25 for 157 yards with a 2-yard TD toss to Colin Chase. - Army/AP College Football

Cale Hellums threw a 42-yard pass to Brady Anderson with 24 seconds left and Dawson Jones made a game-winning 27-yard field goal on the final play to give Army a 20-17 victory over Air Force on Saturday. Army (4-4) has won seven of the last nine meetings with Air Force (2-6), including three in a row - its first three-game streak in the series since 1976-78. It was a wild final two minutes. Hellums was stopped on a fourth-and-1 sneak deep in Army territory with 2:10 left. The Falcons took advantage of the great field position, and a pass interference call in the end zone, to tie it at 17-all on Liam Szarka's 2-yard sneak with 1:26 left.

Hellums started the game-winning drive with a 10-yard pass and then Army ran it four straight plays. Hellums' ninth pass attempt, and fifth completion, went to Anderson, who had run past the defense over the middle. Hellums threw for 102 yards with a touchdown, and he carried it 26 times for 98 yards and another score. Briggs Bartosh added 74 yards rushing. Szarka was 13 of 17 for 161 yards but he was intercepted twice for Air Force, which also lost a fumble for a three-turnover game. Szarka had two touchdowns on the ground and 91 yards. Air Force had not scored a touchdown against Army in 32 straight possessions until Szarka's 3-yard run midway through the third quarter to tie it at 10-all. - Army/AP College Football
