  08/29/22 - *Drew SandersJr/2023, Arkansas, 6-4, 235 (DS#3 OLB) + More +

The University of Arkansas and LSU didn't work out a football trade in the offseason, it just looked that way. The Razorbacks and Tigers, SEC West rivals, swapped two players each on defense. Arkansas lost defensive backs Joe Foucha and Greg Brooks, both Louisiana natives, to LSU. The Razorbacks added cornerback Dwight McGlothern, who started six games for LSU last season, and Tigers defensive end Landon Jackson. Arkansas has four transfers from other SEC teams, including linebacker Drew Sanders (Alabama) and safety Latavious Brini (Georgia).

Sanders is set to be a starter, while Brini, McGlothern and Jackson all figure to be on the two-deep chart. "A big thing for me was trying to stay in the SEC," said Sanders, who is from Denton, Texas. "But between staying in the SEC, I wanted to be closer to home, too." Sanders, a junior who played in 12 games at Alabama last season with three starts, said he also considered Oklahoma and Texas, both Big 12 teams that will join the SEC no later than the 2025 season. In the end, Arkansas and the SEC won out with Sanders over the Sooners and Longhorns. "There's a big sense of pride with playing in the SEC," Sanders said. "And I just still wanted to be a part of that." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/29/22 - Ricky StrombergSr/2023, Arkansas, 6-3, 306 (DS#4 C) + More +

Coach Sam Pittman said one of the promises he made center Ricky Stromberg when the Tulsa Union product returned for his senior year was to help add versatility to his game. While Pittman said the Razorbacks wouldn't move Stromberg to any other spot to get a different center in the game, the 6-4, 318-pounder has taken around 35 or 40 snaps at guard in camp. "We told him if he came back we could help him with his draft by moving him to guard so the guys could see him play guard," Pittman said. "The scouts were in today and they talked to me about it and I said 'Look at practice this and look at practice that and you'll see him playing guard, live, one-on-one versus the ones. So we have tried to help him that way and he's certainly been good to us." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/29/22 - Matt LandersrSr/2023, Arkansas, 6-4, 200 (DS#25 WR) + More +

Returning senior Warren Thompson and transfer senior Matt Landers have been two of the most talked-about players in training camp for the University of Arkansas, and both of the receivers visited the media room at Reynolds Razorback Stadium after Tuesday's full-pad practice along with nickel back Myles Slusher. Thompson was asked if he heard talk of the receivers being a question mark coming out of spring drills after losing first-round NFL Draft pick Treylon Burks.

Turns out he had. "I think when we heard that, that the wide receivers were the biggest question mark, I think that's when we took it personally," Thompson said. "Everybody in the room, we made it our mission to be great every day and be consistent. I think that's what it was." Thompson is the leading returning receiver with 19 receptions for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns. Landers racked up 20 receptions for 514 yards, an inflated average of 25.7 yards per catch at Toledo last season after transferring there from Georgia after 2020. He said his connection to Coach Sam Pittman, strength and conditioning coach Jamil Walker and other staff who came from Georgia were factors in signing with the Razorbacks out of the transfer portal. "I feel like I've adjusted well," Landers said. "These guys are like my brothers. They took me in with open arms. They just made me feel welcome." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/29/22 - Zach WilliamsrSr/2024, Arkansas, 6-4, 250 (DS#999 DE) + More +

Arkansas added three defensive linemen through the transfer portal for the second year in a row. John Ridgeway, formerly of Illinois State, and Missouri transfers Tre Williams and Markell Utsey all became starters last season. This year's transfers are tackle Terry Hampton (Arkansas State) and ends Jordan Domineck (Georgia Tech) and Landon Jackson (LSU). Senior end Zach Williams said he hasn't given it much thought that the Razorback keep adding transfers to the line. "I say, 'Welcome to the team. We're going to push each other. Iron sharpens iron,'" Williams said. "That's just the way it is for me." Eric Gregory, a redshirt junior who plays end and tackle, said it's a positive to add experienced transfers. "We lose D-linemen, we need D-linemen, and so I welcome them in," Gregory said. "I try to give knowledge that I can. I try to take from them what they know to my game. "So I really don't think about it like, 'Oh, he's going to take my spot,' or stuff like that. We're just out here working man. And so the best man is going to play." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/28/22 - Stephen Dix Jr.rSr/2026, Arkansas, 6-1, 240 (DS#14 ILB) + More +

Florida State coach Mike Norvell said redshirt sophomore linebacker Stephen Dix Jr. would miss the 2022-23 season with an undisclosed injury. The Dr. Phillips product appeared in 21 games (5 starts) during his two seasons with the Seminoles, totaling 59 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss. He played in all 12 games last season with 14 tackles and one pass breakup. "Stephen has been a great player and teammate in regards to the things that he's had to go through and things he's had to work [through]," said Norvell. "He's responded to a lot of adversity that's shown up over the last couple of years. He played a ton as a true freshman and last year was more in a limited role. "It's one of those things that's just a part of the game, but it's going to continue to call on some of the younger guys." Dix wasn't listed on FSU's projected 2-deep depth chart for Saturday's game against Duquesne. - Orlando Sentinel

  08/28/22 - Terry HamptonrSr/2023, Arkansas, 6-0, 303 (DS#44 DT) + More +

It happened four years later than Terry Hampton hoped, but he's finally getting his shot to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Hampton, a fifth-year senior defensive tackle from El Dorado, transferred from Arkansas State University and has worked his way into the Razorbacks' playing rotation. Having appendicitis as a junior and a knee injury as a senior in high school impacted Hampton's recruiting options. "I definitely was a Razorback," Hampton said of growing up cheering for the University of Arkansas. "My pops, he always wanted me to play for the Razorbacks. "Life has come full circle, and I'm here now for sure." Hampton said he's grateful ASU continued to recruit him and offered a scholarship.

Ranked the No. 123 defensive tackle nationally by 247Sports.com, he also was recruited by Memphis, Tulsa, Texas State, Tulane and Louisiana-Monroe. After playing in 36 games for the Red Wolves, including 19 starts, Hampton went into the transfer portal. He was limited to six games last season after suffering another knee injury, but Houston and SMU showed interest. Then Arkansas made an offer. "I took it as soon as possible," Hampton said. "It was a no-brainer." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/25/22 - Jaquayln CrawfordrSr/2023, Arkansas, 5-10, 181 (DS#999 WR) + More +

Arkansas receiver Jaquayln Crawford entered the transfer portal this week, a team spokesman said Saturday. Crawford played in seven games for the Razorbacks last year in his first season of eligibility after transferring from Oklahoma. He caught three passes 27 yards while playing late in games against Georgia Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Crawford, 5-10 and 181 pounds, appeared to be low on the depth chart for an Arkansas receiving corps that has had several players impress during preseason practice. He recently returned to practice after suffering a broken leg during the spring. At Oklahoma, Crawford played in one game as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He was a 4-star recruit at Rockdale (Texas) High School and committed to the Sooners over Auburn, Georgia and Notre Dame. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/19/22 - Beaux LimmerrSr/2024, Arkansas, 6-5, 302 (DS#6 C) + More +

Based on recent interviews, offensive guard Beaux Limmer and defensive tackle Terry Hampton probably pump the most iron in the weight room for the University of Arkansas. Coach Sam Pittman recently described the 6-5, 300-pound Limmer as "a freakish-type guy," while teammates and defensive line coach Deke Adams talked about the 6-1, 314-pound Hampton as a weight room warrior. "I'm going to tell you, Terry Hampton, I think he eats the weights in the weight room," Adams said. "I mean, he is as strong as I've ever seen." Hampton, an El Dorado native, transferred to the Razorbacks after four seasons at Arkansas State. "He can have a guy in position and hip-toss him in a heartbeat," Adams said. "He's very, very strong and explosive in his movements...He'd probably be the one that gives [Limmer] a run for his money."

Offensive linemen Brady Latham and Luke Jones said the strength coaches have to cut Limmer off from maxing out on his lifts some times. "They're really high, and the thing is, the crazy part is that we don't really know how high, because usually they're like, 'All right Beaux, you've gone high enough, like, we don't need you to go anymore," Latham said of Limmer's personal bests. "I've never seen Beaux fail on a weight. So, like, you name it, he could probably throw it up there." Jones and Latham suggested Limmer, a junior from Tyler, Texas, could put up 600 pounds on the bench and possibly 700 pounds on the squat. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/17/22 - Eric GregoryrSr/2025, Arkansas, 6-3, 319 (DS#45 DT) + More +

According to Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman and first-year defensive line coach Deke Adams, Eric Gregory is a quiet person by nature. That much may be true off the field and in meeting rooms. But the redshirt junior is a candidate to make noise along the defensive line and have something of a breakout season in 2022. A key reason why is Arkansas' staff has made a push to utilize his versatility by playing him both on the interior at tackle in four-man fronts and at defensive end in three-man looks. "We're moving him around a good bit," said Adams, who was hired earlier this year to lead the group and replace Jermial Ashley. "Right now we're just trying to fit in both aspects because in this league and in this game inside, you never know what happens. "The more versatile you are, the better you are as a group. And as a person, your value (increases) to the team." Gregory, 6-4 and 302 pounds, has played a number of significant snaps for the Razorbacks the past two seasons while somewhat flying under the radar. He finished with 54 total tackles and 7 tackles for lost yardage in 2020 and 2021, but wants to become a more productive and feared part of Arkansas' defense. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/16/22 - *Drew SandersJr/2023, Arkansas, 6-4, 235 (DS#3 OLB) + More +

Linebacker Bumper Pool touted the adaptability of Drew Sanders, who transferred from Alabama over the winter. "What we're asking of Drew, we're not asking a lot of other guys to do," Pool said. "He's going down and rushing the passer off the edge and also coming back with me and playing a standup linebacker. His skill set is so versatile that whenever he makes a mistake doing something he gets - not down on himself - but he wants to be a perfectionist. "So just continuing to tell him, 'Hey, listen. You're doing so many good things. You don't need to get down on yourself because there's a certain mistake that you make having to go back from on the edge to back to linebacker.' But he's picking it up well." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/14/22 - Marcus MillerrSr/2024, Arkansas, 6-5, 296 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Defensive tackle Marcus Miller is out of practice to have an arthroscopic knee procedure, dropping the 6-5, 286-pound junior from Warren off the 110-man camp roster. Logan Horst, a 6-4, 255-pound senior transfer from Nebraska Wesleyan, was added to fill his spot. Coach Sam Pittman sounded confident Miller, who was off to a good start, would return fairly soon. "It is disappointing because he works so hard and he was doing well," Pittman said. "But you're looking at a, I believe, and I mean this, I believe that he'll be back no later than when school starts. "So I think he'll have two weeks before the Cincinnati game. He had a little clean-out in his knee and that was it. Marcus had been having a good 3-4 days. He's got a good attitude that serves him well, so I anticipate him being back probably the first day of school." - Northwest Arkansas Times
