As Ball State prepares to face San Jose State in the Arizona Bowl on New Year's Eve, the Cardinals didn't have to look far for an addition at wide receiver for the 2021 season. Former Arizona Wildcats slot receiver and Tucson native Stanley Berryhill, announced Monday evening on Twitter his decision to transfer to Ball State of the Mid-American Conference. Berryhill was one of several players to leave the UA football program after the dismissal of Kevin Sumlin, who was replaced by Jedd Fisch. Berryhill led the Wildcats with 23 catches for 227 yards and three touchdowns this season, and finished his UA career with 756 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns.   One of Arizona's top defensive players, outside linebacker Jalen Harris, is taking a wait-and-see approach regarding his future. Harris wants to find out who the new coach will be, and what kind of defensive system he'll run, before deciding his next move. The redshirt junior has three options: return to the UA, enter the NFL draft or leave as a graduate transfer. Harris appeared in four of Arizona's five games this season and tied for the team lead with three pass breakups. He had 18 tackles, including 2.5 for losses. Harris did not record a sack, but he was asked to drop into coverage more than in previous seasons under new defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads. - Arizona Star News

Western Michigan football senior linebacker Treshaun Hayward has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to the Western Herald Sunday evening. In four years with the program, Hayward totaled 238 tackles with 16.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 36 games played. Hayward was named MAC Defensive Player of the Year last season after compiling 142 tackles and 4.5 sacks with 11 tackles for loss, becoming the eighth player in school history to win the award.

He was also a first team All-MAC pick in 2019 and an All-America selection by Sporting News (2nd team) and Phil Steele (4th team). His production in this year's shortened six-game season was down from his 2019 performance as Hayward came up with 59 tackles, 3.5 for loss and 0.5 sacks on a 4-2 Broncos team, but was also limited with an injury that forced him to wear a protective cast on his left arm for most of the season. - Western Herald

Vanderbilt linebacker Kenny Hebert has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to numerous reports. Hebert is, at least, the ninth Vanderbilt player to enter the transfer portal since the end of spring practice. He joins starting linebacker Dimitri Moore, starting safety Tae Daley, starting cornerback D.C. Williams, former starting safety Frank Coppet, starting wide receiver C.J. Bolar, linebacker Colin Anderson, running back J.R. Tran-Reno and safety Tre Douglas. Matt Zenitz of AL.com was the first to report Hebert's appearance in the transfer portal. The size of Vanderbilt's active roster is unknown, especially since Derek Mason was fired on Nov. 29. The depth chart shows less than 50 scholarship players available for Saturday's game against Tennessee. - Tennessean

Arizona's defensive secondary depth continues to take hits in 2020, after junior safety Christian Young opted out of the season on Wednesday, due to an ankle injury. In his third year with the program, the 6-foot-2-inch, 206-pound Houston native played in Arizona's season-opening loss to USC, but didn't record any statistics. Sophomore safety Jaxen Turner started in his place during Arizona's first two contests against USC and Washington. Young became the third Wildcat to opt out of the season, but still remain on the roster, joining running back Bam Smith and defensive end JB Brown. Smith and Brown opted out before the season for COVID-19 concerns. Young was also the third UA defensive back to step away from the program on Wednesday. Freshmen cornerbacks Edric Whitley and Khary Crump are no longer with the Wildcats. Whitley tweeted his decision to enter the transfer portal, while Crump's withdrawal is unknown. - Arizona Star News
