Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle remains a game-time decision for Monday's College Football Playoff National Championship Game, UA coach Nick Saban said Sunday. Defensive back Malachi Moore remains, "very questionable," while defensive lineman LaBryan Ray has returned to practice and has a better chance of playing. Waddle has been the headline of the week from the UA side of things after his return to the practice field on Tuesday from the ankle injury that was thought to end his season. The successful surgery and smooth rehabilitation process allowed Waddle to return to physical activity leading up to the SEC Championship Game and return to practice after the semifinal. - Birmingham News

Six Alabama players were named to the first team of the Walter Camp All-America list Thursday night, the most first-team selections by one team in the 131-year history of the list. Of that group, five became unanimous All-America selections: running back Najee Harris, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, left tackle Alex Leatherwood, center Landon Dickerson and cornerback Patrick Surtain. Each was named to the first team of all of the five lists recognized by the NCAA. The five unanimous All-America selections are the most in any single season in school history. The previous high was three players in both 2011 and 2016. Nationally, Alabama matched Oklahoma's five unanimous selections in 2003. - Birmingham News

  01/06/21 - Alex LeatherwoodSr/2021, Alabama, 6-5, 312 (DS#5 OT) + More +

Alabama's offensive line was announced Monday as the winner of the 2020 Joe Moore Award. The award is given by the Foundation for Teamwork to the nation's best offensive line. Notre Dame and Texas A&M's lines were the other finalists. It is named for Joe Moore, the longtime Notre Dame, Temple and Pittsburgh offensive line coach who died in 2003.

It is the second time Alabama's offensive line, coached by Kyle Flood, has been honored with the award. It was the inaugural recipient in 2015, and now is the first school to win it twice. Left tackle Alex Leatherwood and center Landon Dickerson have been named to the first teams of four official All-America lists and need only first-team recognition on the Walter Camp list to be considered unanimous All-Americans. - Birmingham News

The 6-1, 175-pounder is the first non-quarterback-or-running back to win the Heisman since cornerback Charles Woodson won in 1997. Smith, a fourth-year senior, was named the 2020 SEC Offensive Player of the Year while joining teammate Mac Jones in leading Alabama to the SEC title and the top seed in the College Football Playoff.
