  10/02/21 - Brian Robinson Jr.rSr/2022, Alabama, 6-2, 224 (DS#7 RB) + More +

Brian Robinson Jr. rushed for career highs of 171 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 1 Alabama mostly throttled the nation's top offense in a 42-21 victory Saturday over No. 12 Mississippi. Bryce Young passed for a couple of touchdowns for the Crimson Tide (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) but the 'Bama defense and ground game stole some of the thunder from a matchup of the two leading Heisman Trophy contenders coming into the game. Alabama turned to Robinson to play keep away from Matt Corral and the offense of the Rebels (3-1, 0-1), who had breezed through three nonconference games before an open date. The Tide's fifth-year senior carried 36 times and picked up the first 100-yard game of his career.

Young completed 21 of 27 passes for 241 yards and was intercepted once for Alabama, which led 28-0 at halftime. Oddsmakers had him as the second-leading Heisman candidate coming into the game, behind only Corral. The Rebels star ran for a touchdown but was mostly held in check by a team he torched last season. Corral also passed for a touchdown, completing 22 of 32 passes for 213 yards while losing a fumble. Corral extended his streak of games with a TD pass to 16 games with 2:23 left, matching Eli Manning for the second-longest such streak at Ole Miss. Alabama's defense, burned by Ole Miss for 48 points and 647 yards a year ago, made the big fourth-down stops and plenty of others. The Tide limited Ole Miss to 291 total yards, despite giving up a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. The Rebels came in leading the nation with 635 yards and 53 points per game. - Alabama/AP College Football

  09/26/21 - *Jameson WilliamsJr/2022, Alabama, 6-2, 180 (DS#2 WR) + More +

Jameson Williams was off to the races the first time he touched the ball, and the second, and the fourth. Unstoppable? Maybe. Uncatchable? Definitely. Williams, the Ohio State transfer who brought another speedy playmaker to Tuscaloosa, had three monster plays. He opened the game with a 100-yard kickoff return, then added an 81-yard touchdown catch on his second touch and another 83-yard runback in the top-ranked Crimson Tide's 63-14 win over Southern Miss on Saturday night. "My strategy, every time I get the ball, I'm trying to go to the crib," Williams said after becoming the first Tide player with two kick return TDs in a game.

Williams and the Crimson Tide (4-0) needed just 14 seconds to put to rest any worries of a letdown against Southern Miss (1-3) after a close win over No. 11 Florida and with No. 13 Mississippi on deck. Bryce Young was nearly flawless in throwing for five touchdowns while completing 20 of 22 passes for 313 yards. Williams, meanwhile, had 258 all-purpose yards on just four touches. "I call guys like him...he's a dog," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "He loves playing. He plays hard. He plays fast, and he's got great speed. "And I think that's one of the things that we loved about him in getting him here was he complemented our other guys because he gave us a great vertical threat." The performance was marred only by a third quarter interception - his first of the season - at the goal line when the ball bounced off Williams, who was unstoppable when he caught the ball. It was business as usual for 'Bama, win No. 100 in a row over unranked opponents and plenty of playing time for the backups. Just add in a trio of huge plays from the speedster Williams. - Alabama/AP College Football

Alabama's 31-29 win over Florida continued some impressive streaks for the Crimson Tide. With eight straight wins over the Gators, Alabama tied its record for the second-longest winning streak by any team against Florida. The Crimson Tide last accomplished that feat from 1964-86. Alabama also won its 32nd straight against an SEC Eastern Division opponent. 'Bama has won 43 straight games when scoring a touchdown on its first offensive series. - AP College Football

Bryce Young's first collegiate road start was a rousing success, a three-touchdown performance that helped top-ranked Alabama hold off No. 11 Florida 31-29. The defending national champion Crimson Tide stopped a 2-point conversion with 3:10 left and extended its winning streak to 17, making it 32 in a row against teams from the SEC's Eastern Division. The Gators have dropped eight straight in the series and fell to 0-5 against No. 1-ranked teams at Florida Field. This one was closer than oddsmakers and just about everyone else expected, with 14 1/2-point underdog Florida having a chance to tie the game in the closing minutes despite playing without dynamic backup quarterback Anthony Richardson. - AP College Football

Bryce Young's first collegiate road start was a rousing success, a three-touchdown performance that helped top-ranked Alabama hold off No. 11 Florida 31-29 in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams Saturday. The defending national champion Crimson Tide stopped a 2-point conversion with 3:10 left and extended its winning streak to 17, making it 32 in a row against teams from the SEC's Eastern Division. The Gators (2-1, 0-1 SEC) have now dropped eight straight in the series and fell to 0-5 against No. 1-ranked teams at Florida Field.

This one was closer than oddsmakers and just about everyone else expected, with 14 1/2-point underdog Florida having a chance to tie the game in the closing minutes despite playing without dynamic backup quarterback Anthony Richardson. Coach Dan Mullen held Richardson out as a precaution because of a strained right hamstring and said he would only be available in case of an emergency. That never became the case even though the Gators trailed 21-3 at the end of the first quarter. Young built the lead with TD passes to Jase McClellan, Jaheel Billingsley and Brian Johnson. The Gators rallied and were in position to tie late. Dameon Pierce capped a 75-yard drive with a 17-yard run that made it 31-29. But fellow running back Malik Davis failed to get the 3 yards needed on the 2-point conversion. - Alabama Football/AP College Football

Nick Saban thinks it might be time for a reckoning like his father used to deliver with a pounding of his hand on the dinner table. Sure, Bryce Young threw three touchdown passes and Jase McClellan scored three times to help fuel No. 1 Alabama to a 48-14 rout of FCS Mercer on Saturday. But it was still a performance that left plenty for the Crimson Tide coach to scowl about and harp on, just as Nick Sr. did at times with his various tasks and chores. Better to learn the lessons from two lopsided wins. "If you didn't do any of those things right, you were going to do it again," Saban said. "We might need a little of that somewhere along the line." The Tide (2-0) started sluggishly on offense in what amounted to a warmup game before the Southeastern Conference opener at No. 13 Florida, but potentially more notably had star linebacker Will Anderson Jr. leave with a right knee injury. Saban said Anderson was questionable against the Gators.

Asked to evaluate his offense's first few possessions, Saban said "we stopped ourselves" on four first-half possessions with penalties and dropped passes. "Well, what'd you think? I mean, it's kind of a loaded question, isn't it?" the coach responded to a reporter. "I mean, if it stinks it stinks. It smells bad for everybody. Smell bad for you? Yeah. What do you want me to do, make excuses for them?" Special teams struck before Young and the offense. Chris Braswell blocked a punt, which McClellan scooped up for a 33-yard touchdown, and the expected rout was on against the Bears (1-1). It just took eight minutes and change. - Alabama/AP College Football

Alabama cornerbacks Josh Jobe and Jalyn Armour-Davis didn't start the game with Mercer on Saturday. Jobe was spotted in street clothes for the top-ranked Crimson Tide's home debut against the FCS team. It wasn't clear why the pair weren't available. Neither went through pre-game warmups. Freshman Kool-Aid McKinstry, one of Alabama's top recruits in the latest class, started opposite junior Marcus Banks. An Alabama spokesman said coach Nick Saban would address their status after the game. - AP College Football

  09/06/21 - Christopher AllenrSr/2022, Alabama, 6-4, 241 (DS#19 OLB) + More +

Alabama outside linebacker Chris Allen has a fractured foot and could be out for the rest of the season, coach Nick Saban said Monday. Allen was hurt on a sack of Miami quarterback D'Eriq King early in the second quarter of the top-ranked Crimson Tide's 44-13 opening victory on Saturday, forcing a fumble on the play. Saban said the injury will require surgery. "He's most likely out for the year," Saban said. Drew Sanders, a five-star recruit in the 2020 class, replaced him and had six tackles. Sanders, who is expected to start in Allen's place, had nine tackles in 11 games last season. Allen gave Alabama a formidable pass rushing duo at outside linebacker opposite Will Anderson Jr. He led the Southeastern Conference with 13 tackles for loss last season and had six sacks in his first year as a starter. - AP College Football
