With the game hanging in the balance in the waning moments, the Bears faced a second-and-10 at the UCA 26 when QB Jason Shelley hit Lane at the 12-yard line for a first down. Lane slipped two defenders and found the end zone to score a dramatic, game-changing TD for the Bears. Lane finished with 9 receptions for 148 yards, both career highs, with 68 yards-after-catch on the evening.   Jason Shelley connected with Xavier Lane for the go-ahead touchdown with 29 seconds remaining and Missouri State rallied to defeat Central Arkansas 43-34 on Saturday night. After Central Arkansas took a 34-30 lead on a Breylin Smith 71-yard pass to Tyler Hudson with 2:14 remaining, Shelley drove Missouri State 69 yards in seven plays, culminated by the 26-yard touchdown pass to Lane for a 37-34 lead. Tylar Wiltz then scored on a pick-6 on the game's final play.

Missouri State (1-1) led for most of the game but had to rally after letting a nine-point fourth-quarter lead slip away. Shelley completed 18 of 36 passes for 231 yards. Nine of his completions went to Lane for 148 yards. Smith was 25-of-38 passing for 332 yards for Central Arkansas (0-2). He had two touchdowns and two interceptions. Lujuan Winningham had 10 receptions for 144 yards. Missouri State's Kevon Latulas was the game's leading rusher with 98 yards on 10 carries. - Missouri State/AP College Football

Shelley helped engineer four red zone drives for the Bears, including three in the second half, to guide the 24th-ranked Bears to a near upset in Stillwater. Shelley threw for 103 yards in the fourth quarter alone as he led the Bears with three scoring threats in the final seven minutes. His 8-yard touchdown strike to Tyrone Scott with 3:06 to play, brought MSU within 23-16 of the Cowboys and gave the Bears a chance to tie the game moments later, as the Bears got as close as the OSU 15 in the deciding moments. Avon Park High/Central Michigan,...Braswell was everywhere for Missouri State against South Dakota to help the Bears pull off their first win over a ranked opponent since 2018. His heroics began with a 100-yard kickoff return in the first quarter to tie the game and become the fifth Bear in school history to log a 100-yard kick return (first since Deion Holliman at USD in 2015). Eight minutes later, Braswell gave the Bears the lead with a 36-yard "pick six" interception return for a score to give MSU its first lead of the game.

In the second half, Braswell's defensive prowess continued with a two more pivotal plays on South Dakota's final two possessions. His third-down pass break-up as the Coyotes were driving for a potential go-ahead score held USD to a field goal attempt, which the Bears blocked and turned into the game-winning field goal. On South Dakota's last possession, Braswell's third-down tackle with less than five minutes to go forced a USD punt, and the Bears never gave the ball back, ultimately running out the clock for their second MVFC road win of the season.   Jaden Johnson threw a touchdown pass and Jose Pizano kicked three field goals in the second half to help Missouri State beat Western Illinois 30-24 on Saturday. Pizano's 37-yard field goal tied it a 17 in the third quarter and his 43-yarder made it 20-17 early in the fourth. Tony Tate had a 2-yard touchdown run to give Western Illinois a 24-20 lead. Johnson threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Smith, and Pizano made a 33-yard field goal with 3:48 remaining. On the ensuing series, the Leathernecks drove to their 46, but the drive stalled when Kevin Ellis forced a Henry Ogala fumble and Eric Johnson recovered the ball to seal it for the Bears (1-3, 1-2 Missouri Valley). Johnson was 18-of-28 passing for 278 yards but threw two interceptions.
