Louisville Football   Woody Marks scored on a 13-yard run with 8 seconds left to give No. 23 Southern California a 27-20 win over No. 13 LSU on Sunday night. Miller Moss passed for 378 yards and a touchdown and his 20-yard completion to Kyron Hudson and a subsequent targeting penalty on LSU with 18 seconds to play set up the winning score by Marks in the season opener for both teams. Moss outdueled LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, who completed 29 of 38 passes for 304 yards with two touchdowns and an interception on the final drive. Moss was similarly efficient in going 27 of 36 in a battle of QBs who waited their turns after sitting behind the two most recent Heisman Trophy winners, LSU's Jayden Daniels and USC's Caleb Williams.

USC, in its first season of Big Ten Conference play, sent a message with this victory in the teams' first meeting in 40 years that the Trojans could be a factor after going a disappointing 8-5 last year. And it came against a Southeastern Conference opponent hoping to show it belongs in the College Football Playoff. LSU will still have its chances to make that case, but this is the Tigers' third consecutive season-opening loss under coach Brian Kelly. LSU also had its four-game winning streak going back to last season snapped. The Tigers represented about 60% of the crowd, an Allegiant Stadium announced record gathering of 63,969 that sometimes felt like Baton Rouge West. There was some star power, too, with LSU greats Shaquille O'Neal and Daniels with his Heisman Trophy in tow. Former USC Heisman winners Marcus Allen and Matt Leinart also were on hand. Two tremendous catches helped define the first half. - AP College Football

Arizona Football   New Mexico had a plan in place to slow Tetairoa McMillan, one that included multiple coverages against Arizona's All-American receiver. The Lobos lost track of McMillan on Arizona's opening drive, leading to a big play, and couldn't corral him no matter what they tried. McMillan had a school-record 304 yards receiving and matched another with four touchdown catches - all from Noah Fifita - and No. 21 Arizona opened coach Brent Brennan's first season with a 61-39 win over New Mexico on Saturday night. "We tried man, man with help, zone pressures," New Mexico coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "They did a very good job of moving him around and we didn't do a very good job stopping him." The Wildcats (1-0) put on an offensive show in their first game as a Big 12 member, with McMillan and Fifita headlining.

Arizona's stars connected on a 69-yard touchdown on the Wildcats' opening drive and kept gouging New Mexico's defense for big chunks. McMillan averaged 30.4 yards on 10 catches and broke the Arizona single-game record of 283 yards receiving set by Jeremy McDaniel in 1996. McMillan matched Jacob Cowing's touchdown catches record set against Southern California last season and fell 10 yards short of the Big 12 record set by Baylor's Terrance Williams in 2012. Fifita finished with 422 yards and four touchdowns on 19-of-31 passing with an interception. Quali Conley ran for 90 yards and three touchdowns to round out an Arizona offense that racked up 627 total yards. "I like the way we rallied in the second half and thought we played good team football," Brennan said. "That's the rhythm that we need, complementing each other as we play." The Lobos (0-2) opened Mendenhall's first season by blowing a 17-point lead in a 35-31 loss to Montana last week. - AP College Football

Transfer Football   Frank Peasant's 30-yard touchdown jaunt with 16 seconds left helped carry Middle Tennessee State past Tennessee Tech 32-25 in a season opener on Saturday night. The game didn't end until 1:18 a.m. EST due to weather delays. The Blue Raiders led 21-5 at halftime before the Golden Eagles scored three touchdowns and took a 25-24 lead when reserve quarterback Jordyn Potts threw a pair of touchdowns in the game's final minutes. Potts relieved injured starter Dylan Laible who departed in the first quarter.

Potts threw a 15-yarder to Ashton Maples capping an eight-play, 82-yard drive with 4:21 left. The Golden Eagles' defense forced a three-and-out, and Potts this time led a six-play, 57-yard drive resulting in a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Yates with 1:06 left. MTSU countered when quarterback Nicholas Vattiato connected on pass plays of 14 and 26 yards to Omari Kelly. The 26-yarder occurred on fourth-and-5 at the Blue Raiders' 44-yard line. The play set up Peasant's game-scoring dash. Peasant ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns. His 3-yard plunge with 6:56 left in the first was the game's first score. - AP College Football

Arizona State Football   Sam Leavitt threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns, Cam Skattebo and DeCarlos Brooks both ran for a touchdown and Arizona State won its first football game as a member of the Big 12, beating Wyoming 48-7 on Saturday night. The Sun Devils scored a defensive touchdown just 41 seconds into the game when Zyrus Fiaseu picked off Wyoming's Evan Svoboda and ran 29 yards to the end zone. The Sun Devils didn't force a turnover last season until their fourth game. Svoboda threw another interception less than five minutes later.

This time, it was Keyshaun Elliott who grabbed the errant pass and ran 18 yards to the Wyoming 42. The Sun Devils capitalized on the good field position with a 29-yard field goal and a 10-0 lead. Arizona State had a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 27-0 advantage at halftime. Leavitt, a Michigan State transfer, played well in his first career start, completing 14 of 22 passes. He beat out senior Jeff Sims for the starting job during preseason camp. Svoboda completed 6 of 15 passes for 42 yards and had the two early interceptions. He also made an errant throw on a lateral that was picked up by Arizona State's Justin Wodtly and returned six yards for a touchdown. - AP College Football

Kentucky Football   Brock Vandagriff emerged from a two-hour-plus lightning delay to throw three touchdown passes in his Kentucky debut to lead a 31-0 opening-game shutout of Southern Miss on Saturday night in a game that was called for good with 9:56 remaining in the third quarter after a second delay. Lightning in the area delayed the scheduled 7:45 p.m. start to 10:05 p.m., and the Georgia transfer took charge to throw for 169 yards and two 12-yard scores to Barion Brown in the first half and a five-yard score to Jordan Dingle in the third before the second lightning delay early Sunday morning. A release stated that the termination was "by mutual agreement of the participating institutions as permitted by NCAA rules" and considered final and complete.

Tate Rodemaker threw for 126 yards for the Golden Eagles along with two interceptions, with one ending their best scoring chance when Kentucky's JQ Hardaway picked off a tipped pass in the end zone with 13:37 left in the first half.   Utah State Football   Back-up quarterback Bryson Barnes passed for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday night, Kyrese White caught three balls for 131 yards, including touchdowns of 57 and 53 yards, and Utah State beat Robert Morris 36-14 in the season opener for both teams. Nate Dreiling, who was named Utah State's interim coach after the firing of Blake Anderson in July, got his first win as a head coach at any level. The 33-year-old, who was elevated from defensive coordinator, is the youngest head coach in the FBS. Barnes replaced Spencer Petras - who left the game after an apparent injury and never returned - midway through the second quarter. The Aggies went three-and-out on his first possession at the helm and then Barnes threw an interception to end the second as Robert Morris took a 14-10 lead into halftime.

Utah State forced the Colonials to go three-and-out on the first possession of the third quarter before White caught a swing pass and raced 53 yards for a touchdown with 10:33 left to give Utah State the lead for good at 17-14. Elliott Nimord kicked a 50-yard field goal about 8 minutes later to make it 20-14 going into the fourth quarter and Barnes scrambled for a 63-yard TD run to make it a two-possession game with 13 minutes to play. Robert Morris again went three-and-out and, after Robert Briggs Jr. ripped off a 55-yard run, Jalen Royals caught a 21-yard scoring pass from Barnes to cap a two-play, 76-yard drive that made it 33-10. - AP College Football
