 Aaron Lewis, Rutgers, Player News

  07/24/20 - DE Aaron LewisSo/2024, Rutgers, 6-4, 242 (DS#999 DE) + More +

Rutgers made a huge splash Monday when former Williamstown (N.J.) standout Aaron Lewis announced on Twitter that he was transferring to Rutgers following a short stint at the University of Michigan. The four-star defensive lineman is gifted and has the work ethic to complement those blessings. Lewis talks speed: "I ran a 4.7-flat the first day I arrived at Michigan at about 245 pounds. We were supposed to run them again but we never did. We had to evaluate ourselves before camp. I ran 4.6 unofficial when clocking with my guys. And then we got sent home. I'm thinking I can get myself down to a 4.6, 4.5 with a lot of lifting and stretching." What's he been told he'll play? "They told me edge rusher. They said with my speed, I could possibly play off the edge like a linebacker (or rush end). And as my body develops, five-tech, three-tech. So, I'm going to be playing inside and outside. Moving around like I was in high school." - Star Ledger

Could former Williamstown (N.J.) defensive end Aaron Lewis return home to the Garden State after entering the transfer portal on Wednesday? The 6-6, 260-pound four-star defensive lineman was the second player to commit to Michigan's 2020 class. However, his time in Ann Arbor was short lived. Lewis migrated there in January and spent more than two months with the his new team prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, due to undisclosed health issues of his mother, Lewis plans to transfer close to home, he told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday. "She will be fine, but closer to home is where I need to be right now," Lewis said. Does that mean Rutgers, I asked. "I guess we will see," he replied. Lewis pegs the University of Maryland and Penn State as contenders which also provide him the chance to play Power 5 ball (relatively) close to home. - Star Ledger

A true freshman on the Michigan football team has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Defensive end Aaron Lewis, who enrolled early in January, is pursuing a transfer, a Michigan spokesperson confirmed to MLive. Lewis, one of four defensive ends Michigan signed in the 2020 class, was a three-star prospect coming out of Williamstown High in New Jersey. He was primarily recruited by linebackers coach Anthony Campanile and safeties coach Chris Partridge, who both have deep ties to New Jersey but departed Michigan for other coaching opportunities this offseason -- after Lewis had signed in December. - Ann Arbor News
