  08/03/22 - DE Aaron LewisrSr/2025, Rutgers

A Rutgers pass rush that was far from ferocious last season - it ranked 11th in the Big Ten and 94th nationally in sacks (23/1.8 per game) and 92nd nationally and ninth in the Big Ten in tackles for loss (64/4.9 per game) - faces an uphill battle for improvement. Due to a combination of injury (Mohamed Toure) and graduation (Olakunle Fatukasi and Julius Turner), the Scarlet Knights will be without their three leading sackers from that unit who accounted for nearly half (9.5 sacks; 41.3%) of that production. Rutgers have some intriguing players who can replace that production. Lewis, who was tied with Turner for third on the team with 2.5 sacks last season, is near the top of that list.

The former four-star recruit out of Williamstown, who transferred to the Scarlet Knights months after enrolling at Michigan, flashed his immense potential throughout his first two years in Piscataway. With veterans Mayan Ahanatu and Ifeanyi Maijeh and budding star Kyonte Hamilton stuffing the interior of the line, Lewis will have an opportunity for a breakout season. "I think Aaron Lewis is going to have a tremendous year," head coach Greg Schiano said at Big Ten Media Days. "He's practiced and played at a different level. I think he and (defensive line coach) Marquise Watson have a tremendous relationship and Marquise has really accelerated his growth. I'm excited. He's matured. You see him growing up right in front of your eyes. He's really talented but I think he's stepped it up." - Star Ledger
