  12/04/22 - Carson SteeleJr/2024, UCLA, 6-1, 228 (DS#2 FB) + More +

The transfer portal is in full swing and Ball State's best player doesn't look like he'll be returning to Muncie next season. Sophomore running back Carson Steele, who finished the regular season sixth in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 1,556 rushing yards, announced his intention to enter the portal Saturday in a tweet, where he thanked God and Ball State's players, coaches and staff. "My family and I have decided that it would be best for me to enter the transfer portal for my remaining years of eligibility," Steele said in a tweet. "Again, I would like to say thank you to Ball State for the last two years and I wish nothing but success for their program as they move on."

Steele recorded 2,447 rushing yards, 323 receiving yards and 22 total touchdowns in his first two seasons. In Ball State single-season records, Steele finished third in rushing yards (1,556) and tied for third in touchdowns (14) this season. Steele is 10th in career rushing yards at Ball State. Steele isn't the first BSU player to enter the portal this season, but his decision is certainly the biggest blow for the Cardinals, who finished 5-7 in 2022, moving forward. - Star Press

Dorian Thompson-Robinson ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as No. 17 UCLA rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat California 35-28 on Saturday. The Bruins (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12, No. 16 CFP) racked up 541 yards of offense, including 352 on the ground, and rebounded from a narrow defeat to USC the previous week that eliminated them from league title contention. Thompson-Robinson passed for 189 yards and gained another 88 on the ground. Zach Charbonnet rushed for 119 yards and a score, and he converted a fourth-and-2 run in Cal territory late in the game that chewed up valuable time. TJ Harden added 89 yards rushing on 12 carries for the Bruins. The Bears (4-8, 2-7) got a fourth-down stop that gave them the ball back trailing 35-28 with 1:58 remaining. But Jaydn Ott fumbled after a fourth-down reception that would have converted a first down, and Carl Jones Jr. recovered to ice the game for UCLA.

Cal's Jack Plummer threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns. Jeremiah Hunter had eight catches for 153 yards and two scores. UCLA trailed 21-10 with 58 seconds left before halftime. But Thompson-Robinson led his team on a 75-yard drive that took 40 seconds, capping it with a 19-yard touchdown scramble that brought UCLA within 21-17 at the intermission. UCLA scored on its first possession of the second half to take the lead. But Plummer hit Ott for an 8-yard touchdown that put Cal up 28-27 with 11:16 remaining. Then Thompson-Robinson engineered a 73-yard scoring drive capped by Charbonnet's 5-yard touchdown. A 2-point conversion pass to Jake Bobo gave UCLA a 35-28 lead. UCLA had 113 rushing yards in the first quarter alone and moved the ball at will. But Nicholas Barr-Mira missed a 33-yard field goal, and penalties forced the Bruins to settle for a field goal on another drive. They led 10-7 midway through the second quarter. That gave Plummer time to find his rhythm. The transfer from Purdue threw three first-half touchdown passes, including two to Jeremiah Hunter, who beat one-on-one coverage for 38- and 22-yard scores. - UCLA/AP College Football

  11/19/22 - Bryon ThreatsrSr/2026, UCLA, 5-10, 185 (DS#999 FS) + More +

Jacob Dingel and Bryon Threats intercepted passes, Noah Potter and Dontay Corleone recovered fumbles and No. 22 Cincinnati beat Temple 23-3 on Saturday to move closer to the American Athletic Conference championship game. Cincinnati (9-2, 6-1) can guarantee a berth in its fourth straight conference title game and earn home-field advantage in the Dec. 3 contest with a win in its regular-season finale Friday against Tulane, with whom it is presently tied atop the standings.

The Bearcats could also gain entry into the title game depending on how Central Florida - which was upset by Navy on Saturday - fares against South Florida. This is the final year in the AAC for Cincinnati, with the Bearcats moving to the Big 12. A week after quarterback E.J. Warner - the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner - set a school record for passing yards with 486 yards and had three TD passes for Temple (3-8, 1-6) in a 43-36 loss at Houston, Cincinnati got the four turnovers and held the rushing attack to 35 yards. - Cincinnati/AP College Football

Dorian Thompson-Robinson hurdled a defender on a 33-yard touchdown run, one of his two rushing scores, and also passed for two TDs as No. 10 UCLA held off Arizona State 50-36 on Saturday night. Thompson-Robinson threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage, and the Sun Devils turned it into a field goal. But then he led drives of 75, 77, 91 and 90 yards to give UCLA (8-1, 5-1 Pac-12) a 28-10 halftime lead that grew to 35-10 on his 4-yard run in the third quarter. Arizona State quarterback Trenton Bourguet threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns, and the Sun Devils (3-6, 2-4) scored 18 straight points to close to 42-36 on Xazavian Valladay's 1-yard TD run and Bourguet's 2-point conversion pass with 6:24 left.

UCLA put it away on its next possession on Colson Yankoff's 1-yard touchdown run with 2:30 remaining. "I didn't personally have any doubt," Thompson-Robinson said. "For me, it was really easy. I just had to put and read my keys. We knew what we were going to get, and we got what we expected." The Bruins, one of three teams with one Pac-12 loss perched behind first-place Oregon, had 402 yards rushing. Thompson-Robinson finished with 169 yards passing and 120 yards on the ground. UCLA played without Pac-12 leading rusher Zach Charbonnet, who was in uniform and active on the sideline but wore bandages on his left triceps and left calf. Wide receiver-turned-running back Kazmeir Allen had 137 yards rushing, including a touchdown, and 63 more receiving for UCLA. "I'm just a ballplayer," said Allen, saying he spent one day at practice last week at running back. "I barely knew Zach was unavailable until the beginning of the game." Keegan Jones added 98 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns while stepping in for Charbonnet, who was third in Division I with 137.7 yards rushing per game. - UCLA/AP College Football

Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw his 76th career touchdown pass as No. 18 UCLA (6-0 , 3-0 ) earned a 42-32 Pac-12 victory over No. 11 Utah (4-2, 2-1) at the Rose Bowl on Saturday to become the Bruins' all-time leader in touchdown passes. "It's great to have my name there, but I think the thing that's made me the most emotional right now is seeing how happy my guys in my locker room were for me," Thompson-Robinson said. "The coaching staff, everybody that's been here since I was a freshman, just rethinking all the hard times I went through. All the bickering back-and-forth, the transitioning going on throughout the program. Again I just can't say how thankful I am and how grateful I am to be on this team right now." Thompson-Robinson broke the record held by former Bruins standout Brett Hundley (2011-14) on a 70-yard touchdown pass to receiver Logan Loya to cap off a two-play, 61-yard drive for a 35-25 lead over Utah with 11:17 to play.

Thompson-Robinson celebrated the victory that followed his 41st start as a Bruin by high-fiving teammates and embracing fans in the tunnel on his way back to the locker room. Thompson-Robinson has also surpassed Hundley for sole possession of the second-most starts by a quarterback in UCLA history. "It's pretty cool for what Dorian has done," Coach Chip Kelly said. "He has invested a ton in himself and he's reaping the rewards of that. Really happy for him, seeing how he has grown as a person and grown as a leader." - Orange County Register
