  11/15/21 - *Bijan RobinsonJr/2023, Texas, 5-11, 215 (DS#1 RB) + More +

Star Texas running back Bijan Robinson will miss the rest of the season after dislocating his elbow in the Longhorns' loss to Kansas, coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday. Robinson's 1,127 yards rushing this season rank third in the Big 12 and made him the first Texas running back to hit the 1,000-yard mark since 2016. He also had 11 rushing touchdowns, and five more receiving. Robinson was injured in the third quarter of the 57-56 overtime loss that sent Texas to its fifth consecutive defeat, the program's longest skid since 1956. Texas (4-6, 2-5 Big 12) plays Saturday at West Virginia and at home Nov. 27 against Kansas State, and must win both to be eligible for a bowl game. Texas hasn't had a losing season or missed a bowl game since 2016. - AP College Football

  10/02/21 - *Bijan RobinsonJr/2023, Texas, 5-11, 215 (DS#1 RB) + More +

Bijan Robinson ran six consecutive times to open the final game-cinching drive for Texas, including a first down on a hard third-down run after TCU had called its last timeout. He then added 13 more yards before Casey Thompson got to kneel down on the last three snaps. Robinson ran for a career-high 216 yards on 35 carries with two go-ahead touchdowns and those key late first downs in a 32-27 win Saturday, the first Big 12 road game for the Longhorns since accepting an invitation to join the Southeastern Conference. "I just knew I had to get that first down, for the whole team to keep going forward and end the game," Robinson said. "No. 5 kind of epitomized our football team, the grit. He was exhausted," coach Steve Sarkisian said. "Thirty-five carries later, the last one was the most important one to get one more first down to seal the win...He's earned our trust." Thompson improved to 3-0 as the starting quarterback, even without the Longhorns finding the end zone at the same blistering pace as in his first two starts.

He finished 12-of-22 passing for 142 yards with a touchdown and an interception. TCU (2-2, 0-1) lost its second consecutive home game and had three turnovers, matching its total for the first three games. The Longhorns converted those into only three field goals by Cameron Dicker. Robinson was stopped short on a fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 9 1/2 minutes left. The Horned Frogs then went 99 yards in 13 plays for Kendre Miller's 2-yard TD with 4:23 left, but never got the ball back. - Texas/AP College Football

The Steve Sarkisian era is off to a good start at Texas behind a new quarterback and a running back finally getting his chance to carry the load for the Longhorns. Bijan Robinson scored twice and Hudson Card threw two touchdown passes in his first career start, leading No. 21 Texas to a 38-18 victory over No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday in Sarkisian's Longhorns coaching debut . "I love it man, there's nothing like winning," said Sarkisian, a former head coach at Washington and Southern California who was Alabama's offensive coordinator last season when the Crimson Tide won the national championship. Texas hired him to replace Tom Herman, who was fired after four winning seasons and four bowl wins but no Big 12 championships.

Robinson, who has garnered early attention as a potential all-American this season, scored Texas' first touchdown on a pass from Card in the first quarter, then punched in another on a 7-yard run on the first possession of the third that put Texas ahead 21-6. Robinson finished with 176 total yards rushing and receiving in the kind of all-around game Sarkisian had promised to use. He touched the ball 24 times Saturday, more than double his game average last season. "Sark said to prepare for anything. I feel good," said Robinson, who also met former Texas Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams before the game. "He (Williams) just said, 'Go ball out and represent for the guys who have been here before you,'" Robinson said. - Texas/AP College Football

  09/02/21 - Jahleel BillingsleySr/2023, Texas, 6-4, 223 (DS#31 TE) + More +

Asked again about Jahleel Billingsley, Saban said, "We're just trying to get Jahleel to be a very responsible, disciplined person as well as a responsible, disciplined player. [He] certainly is a very talented guy, and we have high hopes for how he can contribute to the team. How that happens is sort of up to him, and his choice." Billingsley was listed as the co-backup along with Major Tennison at tight end on Monday's depth chart. Later that day, Billingsley tweeted, "Come on now I'm the 3rd option" with a crying emoji before deleting that tweet. - Birmingham News

  09/01/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers has reportedly agreed to a deal worth more than $1 million with a company that arranges autograph signings. Darren Rovell of The Action Network said Ewers' representatives negotiated the arrangement with GT Sports Marketing. The deal was later confirmed by ESPN's Tom VanHaaren, who more specifically put the numbers at three years and $1.4 million. Ewers announced earlier this month that he was skipping his senior season of high school in order to enroll early at OSU. At the time, Ewers said it was "not just a financial decision," and he joined the Buckeyes a little over a week after the team started fall camp.

The decision by the 6-2, 200-pound Southlake, Texas, native was unusual, but not unprecedented. Due at least in part to his late start, when head coach Ryan Day discussed the backup quarterback position this week, he mentioned only Jack Miller and Kyle McCord as the candidates to take snaps after starter C.J. Stroud for the season opener Thursday against Minnesota. - The Columbus Dispatch

  08/22/21 - Jermayne LolerSr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 315 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Arizona State's season opener is three weeks away but the Sun Devils have already suffered a major setback with senior defensive tackle Jermayne Lole sidelined with a triceps injury that will require surgery and is likely season ending. After today's practice, ASU coach Herm Edwards confirmed the injury which occurred during Monday's practice. Lole has been at practice as a spectator the last two days with his right arm in a sling. "It doesn't look good," the coach said. The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder would have been a four-year starter, having earned a spot in 2018 as a true freshman. He was an All-Pac 12 honorable mention last season with 24 total tackles including five for a loss and 1.5 sacks and the four-game 2020 season. In his career, Lole had registered 147 tackles in 32 games. Much was expected of Lole this season. He was a first-team All-preseason Pac-12 pick by the media. - Arizona Republic

  08/22/21 - Derek KerstetterrSr/2022, Texas, 6-5, 305 (DS#7 C) + More +

Derek Kerstetter could have left and thrown his hat into the NFL draft ring earlier this year, but there was work that needed to be done. Besides, he had zero interest in leaving college with a final image of him being carted off the field. So Texas' senior center is back for a fifth season after a gruesome ankle injury at Kansas State cut his 2020 season short in Week 9. Eight months of resolve-testing rehabilitation have fueled Kerstetter's desire to finish out his college career, and he's eager to lead this offensive line into the latest new era of Longhorns football.

Tough people overcome, and Kerstetter, a hard-nosed sort who doesn't back down from a fight, didn't take long to make the obvious decision, even if he will be playing in front of an inexperienced quarterback for his final year. "They've been hectic," Kerstetter said of the weeks of recovery followed by the months of rehab. "It's been just a pleasure to be able to come out here to be with my teammates again. What I went through was a blessing because it taught me so many different things, but it was also one of the hardest things I've ever faced in my life." - Austin American Statesman

  08/22/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers has finally touched down in Columbus and joined the Ohio State football program. A university spokesperson confirmed that the five-star quarterback is enrolled in classes and will continue wearing the No. 3 he wore at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas. In two seasons as the Dragons' starter, he threw for 6,445 yards and 73 touchdowns while leading them to last season's 6A Division I Texas State Championship game. Carroll lost to Westlake High School, led by Clemson commit Cade Klubnik. Ewers was the top player in the 2022 recruiting class with a perfect star rating but elected to reclassify to cash in on Name, Image and Likeness deals. He still kept that perfect rating after joining the second-ranked 2021 class giving the group four of the top 10 players and seven players rated as five stars. His addition also made Ohio State the first program to sign two five-star quarterbacks in the same cycle. Ewers is joining a quarterback room in the midst of a battle for the starting job between Kyle McCord, Jack Miller and C.J. Stroud. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  08/18/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers, the top quarterback prospect in 2022 who was going to show up at OSU next spring, reclassified and announced he would be enrolling at OSU for this fall instead. The reason was so he could take advantage of name, image and likeness opportunities to make what his family calculated could be as much as a million dollars. Ewers already has released his first endorsement, Holy Beverages, even before showing up in Columbus. Enrolling early gives him a fast start on learning the Buckeyes' offense. Plus, he gets to bank all the endorsement money he wouldn't have made staying in high school. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
