  Cameron Skattebo rushed for an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter after Sacramento State recovered a fumble, and that was enough as the Hornets held off Northern Colorado 27-24 on Saturday. Sacramento State (6-2, 5-0 Big Sky), ranked No. 23 in the FCS coaches poll, moved into a tie atop the Big Sky standings with undefeated and sixth-ranked Montana State, which had a bye this week. Skattebo carried it 16 times for 111 yards and Jake Dunniway was 11 of 24 for 138 yards passing for Sacramento State. Asher O'Hara completed three of four passes for 33 yards with a two-yard touchdown toss to Marshel Martin that gave the Hornets a 10-0 lead with 1:06 left in the first quarter.

Kyle Sentkowski added field goals of 37 and 27 yards for the Hornets, who never trailed but were unable to break clear of Northern Colorado (3-6, 2-4). The Bears scored on a pair of Gene Sledge 1-yard runs, the second making it 17-14 early in the third quarter. Northern Colorado again cut the Sac State lead to three points when Dylan McCaffrey scored from the 1 with 3:11 remaining. The Hornets held the ball until there were 33 seconds left and Northern Colorado had no timeouts. McCaffrey threw for 232 yards and rushed for 19. Dylan Thomas caught four passes for 183 yards.   Jake Dunniway threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns in Sacramento State's 37-point first half and the Hornets went on to blank Northern Arizona 44-0 on Saturday night. Dunniway finished 21 of 35 for 382 yards. Backup Asher O'Hara added a touchdown pass and a touchdown run. Cameron Skattebo had 117 yards rushing and Marshel Martin had the same number receiving for the Hornets (5-2, 4-0 Big Sky). Parker Clayton caught both of Dunniway's TD passes in the Hornets' 34-point second quarter. O'Hara, Martin and Skattebo added touchdown runs in the explosive 15 minutes. RJ Martinez was 19-of-32 passing for 136 yards with an interception for NAU (3-4, 2-2). The Lumberjacks managed just 226 yards and 11 first downs.   Carson Camp threw two touchdown passes, Travis Theis had 29 carries for 113 yards and a score, and South Dakota beat Northern Iowa 34-21 on Saturday in battle between two of the top programs in the FCS. Camp was 16-of-20 passing for 153 yards with no interceptions. Nate Thomas, who finished with 14 carries for 59 yards, scored on a 2-yard run to give South Dakota (5-2, 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference) a 33-12 lead late in the third quarter.

A muffed punt by Northern Iowa (3-3, 1-2) - ranked No. 17 in the FCS coaches poll - deep in its own territory gave the Coyotes the ball at the 13 and three plays later Camp threw a 5-yard TD pass to Carter Bell to open the scoring with 1:11 left in the first quarter. After an interception by Daraun McKinney on the next play from scrimmage, Theis capped a five-play, 20-yard drive with a 4-yard TD run on the final play of the period. Theo Day completed 25 of 35 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions, and Victor McShane bounced off multiple defenders on a 62-yard scoring run, for Northern Iowa.   Jake Dunniway threw three touchdown passes and Asher O'Hara, Sacramento State's other quarterback, ran for a score and the Hornets defeated Montana 28-21 on Saturday for their first road win over the Grizzlies. Dunniway and Jared Gipson had a pair of 24-yard scoring hookups in the third quarter, and Marcus Hawkins picked off Montana quarterback Kris Brown at the goal line as the teams traded turnovers on consecutive plays early in the fourth. The Hornets' Chris Miller scored the first touchdown on a 3-yard reception and O'Hara added a 2-yard run for a 14-6 lead at the half. After Gipson's first touchdown pass, Brown scored twice and with the help of a two-point conversion tied the game at 21. The Hornets (4-2, 3-0 Big Sky Conference), are 3-20 all-time against the Grizzlies, and they piled up 456 yards of offense, 302 through the air. Montana (4-2, 1-2) had 272 yards and had a punt return for a touchdown erased by a penalty. - AP College Football

  Jake Dunniway threw two touchdown passes and Asher O'Hara ran for two more scores as Sacramento State ground out a 41-20 Big Sky Conference win over Southern Utah on Saturday night. The Hornets limited Southern Utah to just 43 yards rushing and picked off quarterback Justin Miller three times while their offense did not commit a turnover. Sacramento State (3-2, 2-0 Big Sky Conference) ran for 259 yards and three touchdowns. Isaiah Gable scored from four-yards out for the game's first touchdown and O'Hara added scoring runs of 10 and 3 yards. Dunniway was 8 of 13 for 105 yards passing, firing an 18-yard scoring pass to Devin Gandy in the second quarter and three yards to Pierre Williams early in the fourth. Miller was 19-of-34 passing for Southern Utah (1-5, 0-3), hitting Ethan Bolingbroke for a 13-yard touchdown and again for the two-point conversion in the third quarter. - AP College Football

  Carson Camp threw two touchdown passes and Mason Lorber added two field goals, including a 54-yarder in the fourth quarter, as South Dakota held off North Dakota 20-13 in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown Saturday afternoon. Camp fired seven yards to Caleb Vander Esch and Lorber converted from 37-yards out in the first quarter to put the Coyotes up 10-0. North Dakota's Tommy Schuster tossed a 14-yard scoring pass to Brock Boltmann to make it 10-7 after one quarter and neither team scored again in the first half. Camp hit Wesley Eliodor from 24-yards out to make it 17-7, but Brady Stevens kicked a 41-yard field goal to get the Fighting Hawks back within 17-10. Lorder pushed the lead back to 10 points with his 54-yard field goal and Stevens hit from 25-yards out with 5:52 left to set the final margin. Camp completed 16 of 23 passes for 179 yards for South Dakota (4-2, 2-1). Travis Theis carried 23 times for 138 yards.   Carson Camp threw three touchdown passes, all in the second quarter, South Dakota's defense allowed just 205 yards and the Coyotes defeated Indiana State 38-10 on Saturday. Camp completed 19 of 26 passes for 200 yards. His scoring throws went to Brett Samson for 1 yard, Carter Bell for 47 yards, and Samson again for 10 yards. The Coyotes (3-2, 1-1 Missouri Valley) added fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 15 yards by Travis Theis and 27 yards by Nate Thomas, who finished with 111 yards on 11 carries. Anthony Thompson completed 16 of 24 passes for 135 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for the Sycamores (2-3, 0-2). Peterson Kerlegrand was their leading rusher with 11 carries for 24 yards. Indiana State's touchdown came on a Zach Larkin 15-yard reception from Thompson and was the only score of the third quarter, drawing the Sycamores within 24-10 before South Dakota put it away with the two touchdown runs in the final period. - AP College Football

  Kyle Sentkowski kicked three second-half field goals as Sacramento State overcame a 21-14 halftime deficit to pull out out a 23-21 victory over Idaho State in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams Saturday. Jake Dunniway found Marcus Fulcher with a 60-yard touchdown pass with 47 seconds left in the first quarter to put Sacramento State in front, but Benjamin Omayebu knotted the game at 7-7, returning the Hornets' kick-off 99 yards for a score.

Lucas Triplet put Sac State back in front with a seven-yard pass to Asher O'Hara in the second quarter, capping a 12-play, 94-yard drive, but Omayebu answered with his second touchdown, hauling in a 29-yard pass from Tyler Vander Waal, and Hays Hunter put the Bengals on top, 21-14 with a 33-yard pass to Tanner Conner with 2:56 left in the first half. Sentkowski converted from 49-yards out early in the third quarter, then drilled a 27-yard field goal with 2:57 left in the quarter. His 40-yarder with 13:27 left capped the scoring. Dunniway was 18 of 30 for 302 yards and a touchdown to lead Sacramento State (2-2, 1-0). Malakai Rango carried 19 times for 66 yards to lead Idaho State (0-3, 0-1). - AP College Football

  Carson Camp threw two touchdown passes and Michael Mansaray ran for 141 yards and two scores as South Dakota overpowered Cal Poly 48-14 in nonconference play on Saturday. Mansaray's TD runs came in the first quarter - from 13 yards out and on a 1-yard plunge - and sandwiched Camp's 54-yard scoring strike to Carter Bell as the Coyotes (2-1) took a 21-7 lead after one quarter. Two Mason Lorber field goals bookended Camp's 36-yard TD pass to Austin Goehring and a 3-yard TD run by Nate Thomas to push South Dakota's lead to 41-7 at halftime.

Cole Stenstrom's 2-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter capped the Coyotes' scoring. Camp completed 17 of 20 passes for 226 yards for USD. Thomas added 92 yards on 15 carries. Bell finished with six catches for 92 yards. The Coyotes amassed 615 yards of offense, including 353 on the ground. Kahliq Paulette was 9-of-23 passing for 112 yards and a TD for the Mustangs (1-2). Backup QB Conor Bruce completed all three of his passes for 69 yards, including a 61-yard scoring strike to Michael Briscoe with 2:40 left in the game.   Travis Theis ran for two touchdowns, Jonathan Joanis returned an interception 51 yards and South Dakota rolled to a 34-7 win over Northern Arizona on Saturday. The Coyotes (1-1) raced to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter while holding the Lumberjacks (0-2) to nine yards. Carson Camp hooked up with Brett Samso n for a 28-yard touchdown pass on the first possession and Theis capped the second drive with a 13-yard run. Theis also scored on a 1-yard plunge and Mason Lorber kicked his second field goal in the second quarter to make it 27-0. Although the Lumberjacks made the game close statistically they were no match for the quick strikes of South Dakota. The second Theis TD capped an 11-play, 84-yard drive, the only scoring possession that took more than 2 1/2 minutes.   Former Middle Tennessee State quarterback Asher O'Hara has transferred to Sacramento State in California. O'Hara will join his brother Jace, who is transferring from the College of DuPage. O'Hara, who entered the transfer portal on Dec. 17, will have two years of eligibility left if he chooses to play the extra year granted to fall athletes by the NCAA in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. From Rolling Meadows, Illinois, O'Hara signed with MTSU in 2018 after playing one season at the College of DuPage. He played in two games in his first season with the Blue Raiders and took a redshirt. O'Hara completed his first season as a starter in 2019. He completed 62% of his passes for 2,616 yards and 20 touchdowns while throwing eight interceptions. - Daily News Journal
