  Quarterback Carson Strong has played his final game at Nevada. Strong said in a social media post Tuesday evening that he would skip the Wolf Pack's bowl game later this month. He will instead declare for the NFL draft, despite having up to two seasons of eligibility remaining at Nevada. Nevada (8-4) will face Western Michigan (7-5) on Dec. 27 in the Quick Lane Bowl at Detroit's Ford Field. Strong, a two-time Mountain West offensive player of the year, wraps up his college career with 853 completions in 1,252 attempts, a 68.1 percent completion rate.   Brandon Talton kicked a 45-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in the game and Nevada used two defensive touchdowns to fend off San Jose State 27-24 in Mountain West Conference play on Saturday. Nevada (7-2, 4-1) got on the scoreboard first when Jordan Lee caused a Tyler Nevens fumble that was picked up by Daiyan Henley and returned 55 yards for a touchdown. San Jose State (5-5, 3-3) answered with Nick Starkel's 5-yard TD pass to Nevens, knotting the score at 7 after one quarter. The Wolf Pack regained the lead 3:05 into the third quarter when Berdale Robins picked off a Starkel pass and raced 75 yards for a touchdown. Nevada stretched its lead to 17-7 on a 51-yard field goal by Talton before Starkel fired a 48-yard scoring strike to Malikhi Miller to get the Spartans within three points heading to the final quarter.

Matt Mercurio's 34-yard field goal knotted the score at 17 with 10:05 left in the game, but Carson Strong delivered a 20-yard scoring strike to Romeo Doubs to put Nevada up 24-17. Starkel directed a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with his 2-yard TD toss to Derrick Deese Jr. to tie the game at 24 with 1:47 remaining. Strong connected with Melquan Stovall for a 12-yard gain on fourth-and-9 to keep the Nevada drive alive and set up Talton's game-winning kick. Strong completed 36 of 54 passes for 314 yards with two interceptions for the Wolf Pack. Starkel completed 21 of 40 passes for 255 yards for the Spartans.   Carson Strong threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns, Nevada's defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns and the Wolf Pack defeated UNLV 51-20 on Friday night. Strong hit all-conference receivers Romeo Doubs and Cole Turner with early touchdown passes as Nevada (6-2, 3-1 Mountain West) scored on its first four possessions. He completed passes to nine receivers. Tight end Turner dove away from tight coverage to make a 4-yard touchdown catch in the end zone as Nevada marched its opening possession 73 yards in five plays. Doubs made a leaping catch for a 28-yard score and a 20-0 halftime lead. Brandon Talton added a season-long 52 yard field goal followed by 26- and 22-yarders for the Wolf Pack. Strong was 37 of 49 passing - his sixth career game with at least four touchdown passes.

Nevada held UNLV (0-8, 0-4) to 16 plays from scrimmage and four punts in the first half before the Runnin' Rebels got untracked. UNLV has lost its last 14 games. Tyson Williams intercepted Cameron Friel on UNLV's second play after halftime and wove his way 49 yards for a touchdown, boosting the Nevada lead to 27-0. Daiyan Henley made his pick with under five minutes remaining, returning 50 yards to score Nevada's final points. Friel, who completed 27 of 41 passes for 283 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, fired a 23-yard dart to Kyle Williams, wide open in the center of the end zone, to break the shutout.   Carson Strong passed for 395 yards and two third-quarter touchdowns and Nevada pulled away after halftime to beat Hawaii 34-17 in Mountain West Conference play on Saturday. The Wolf Pack (5-1, 2-0) scored first on a Brandon Talton 23-yard field goal midway through the first quarter, but the lead lasted just one play after Dae Dae Hunter took a first-down handoff and raced 75 yards to the end zone for Hawaii (3-4, 1-2). Nevada went up 10-7 on Toa Taua's 6-yard TD run with 12:58 left in the second quarter, but again the lead lasted one play after Hunter took a first-down handoff 81 yards for a TD.

The Wolf Pack answered with a 10-yard TD run by Taua for a 17-14 lead. Both teams added field goals before halftime. Strong took over in the third quarter for Nevada, throwing scoring passes of 28 yards to Romeo Doubs and a 3-yarder to Tory Horton, as the Wolf Pack upped their avantage to 34-17 with 2:25 left in the period.   Carson Strong threw a career-high six touchdown passes - four in the second quarter - and Nevada cruised to a 55-28 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night. Strong, who did not play in the fourth quarter, finished 25-of-32 passing for 377 yards with one interception. But Strong got off to a rocky start. He threw an interception on Nevada's first offensive play from scrimmage and the Wolf Pack (4-1) went three-and-out on three of the next four drives and trailed 7-3 early in the second quarter before hitting Toa Taua, Justin Lockhart, Melquan Stovall and Cole Turner before halftime.

Nevada took the opening kick of the second half and Turner's 3-yard scoring catch capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive that made it 38-3. Strong connected with Henry Ballard for a 33-yard touchdown about four minutes later and cornerback BerDale Robins ripped the ball from New Mexico State's Jared Wyatt and raced 25 yards for a score to give Nevada a 52-3 lead going into the fourth quarter. Jonah Johnson completed 38 of 62 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions for the Aggies.
