  05/21/22 - Marcus WashingtonrSr/2024, Nebraska, 6-2, 185 (DS#999 WR) + More +

This weekend marks the beginning of official visits for 2023 football recruits, and three prospects will take visits to Lincoln to check out what Nebraska has to offer. So will another athlete out of the transfer portal. Former Texas wide receiver Marcus Washington, who entered the transfer portal on May 1, will make a visit to Lincoln as NU continues to look for reinforcements in its wide receiver room. Washington caught 18 passes for 277 yards last season, largely from the right arm of new Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder played in 31 games for the Longhorns. Nebraska has already added a pair of transfer wideouts - Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda from New Mexico State and Trey Palmer from LSU. Washington visited Lincoln while being recruited in high school. - Lincoln Journal Star

  05/16/22 - Kaine WilliamsrJr/2026, Nebraska, 6-2, 215 (DS#999 FS) + More +

Former Alabama safety Kaine Williams on Sunday committed to transfer to Nebraska, he announced on Instagram. Williams, a redshirt freshman, entered the NCAA transfer portal last month after one season with the Tide. His commitment comes one day after he posted recruitment photos from a visit to Nebraska, which followed a visit to Kansas. Williams was among 18 scholarship players from Alabama to enter the transfer portal since the beginning of last season, and the third who entered after the team's spring game April 16.

The other two, defensive lineman Stephon Wynn and offensive lineman Dayne Shor, have not yet announced new schools. Wynn also reportedly visited Nebraska this weekend. Williams was a four-star recruit in 2021 from Louisiana who ranked No. 176 nationally in 247 Sports' industry composite. He appeared in only one game as a freshman last season, in the SEC championship against Georgia, on special teams. - Birmingham News

  05/07/22 - Anthony GrantrSr/2024, Nebraska, 5-11, 221 (DS#93 RB) + More +

Poised for a 2022 standout season: RB Anthony Grant, junior. The Huskers have had a revolving door of running backs since last having a 1,000-yard rusher in 2018. Grant could be the answer. He ran for 1,730 yards and 18 touchdowns on a junior college-leading 241 carries for New Mexico Military Institute last season. - AP College Football

  05/06/22 - Devin DrewrSr/2024, Nebraska, 6-2, 280 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Nebraska encountered serious attrition in its defensive line in the wake of the 2021 season. As a result, the Huskers are counting on the transfer portal for immediate help. On Tuesday, the portal delivered again. Three days after Nebraska landed former TCU defensive end Ochaun Mathis, former Texas Tech defensive lineman Devin Drew announced he will play for the Huskers in 2022. Drew recently took an official visit to Nebraska's campus and also strongly considered playing for Illinois. A native of Raytown, Missouri, Drew made 34 tackles in 13 games this past fall and had 55 stops in all in two seasons at Texas Tech. Before joining the Red Raiders, Drew spent two seasons, 2018 and 2019, at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. - Lincoln Journal Star

  05/03/22 - Trey PalmerrJr/2023, Nebraska, 6-0, 192 (DS#13 WR) + More +

What we learned this spring: We learned Trey Palmer, a transfer from LSU, is prominent in Nebraska's plans. Don't be surprised if he ends up as the team's leading receiver in 2022. "Trey's fit great," Nebraska coach Scott Frost said. "He fits in great because of his personality. He brings energy every single day, he's made a lot of plays out there, he can really run. I think with some more time working with him, we have a chance to do some special things and I'm looking forward to seeing that develop." The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Palmer caught 30 passes last year for the Tigers, and his calling card is indeed his speed. He likes the deep ball.

All told, new Nebraska receivers coach Mickey Joseph had 20 receivers in spring camp. He wants to narrow the rotation to nine or so. During the course of spring, it seemed five or six receivers emerged as safe bets to be in the main rotation. The starters for the Red-White Spring Game were Palmer, Oliver Martin and Alante Brown. Omar Manning, a key cog last season, will almost certainly be counted on again. - Lincoln Journal Star

  04/30/22 - Ochaun MathisrSr/2023, Nebraska, 6-5, 250 (DS#34 DE) + More +

Nebraska has targetted TCU's Ochaun Mathis as long as any player in the transfer portal this off-season. Mathis announced on Saturday (April 30) he will play for the Huskers in 2022, picking NU over Texas. This is arguably the biggest position of need for Nebraska heading into the 2022 season, and Mathis is regarded as the most proven pass rusher currently in the transfer portal. The Athletic ranked Mathis on Apr. 27 as the No. 1 overall available player currently in the transfer portal. This is a major victory for head coach Scott Frost and his program, as it gives the Huskers a proven third-down pass rusher off the edge.

The defensive line is without a doubt the biggest hole on NU's roster. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Mathis was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in both 2020 and 2021. He lead the Big 12 in 2020 with nine sacks over 10 games, to go along with 14 tackles for loss. In 2021, had four sacks and seven tackles for loss. He's played in 38 total games for the Horned Frogs, compiling 15.5 sacks and 30.5 tackles for loss, to go along with 135 total tackles. Mathis has two years of eligibility remaining, as he redshirted in 2018, playing in just four games. Mathis took an official visit to Lincoln on the weekend of Apr. 9, and he was in Austin for the Longhorn's spring game on Apr. 23. - Rivals

  04/29/22 - Ochaun MathisrSr/2023, Nebraska, 6-5, 250 (DS#34 DE) + More +

Former TCU defensive end standout Ochaun Mathis has narrowed his list to two. During a 13-minute YouTube video released Sunday, Mathis said he'll announce April 30 his final decision on where he'll continue his playing career. The finalists: Nebraska and Texas. The Athletic currently has Mathis listed as the best player available in the transfer portal, and Nebraska is looking for help on the edge and on the defensive front line in general. Mathis started 34 games for the Horned Frogs over his career there. In 2021, he had 45 tackles (seven for loss) and four sacks. In 2020, he led TCU with nine sacks and 14 TFLs, making him one of the most productive defensive players available in the transfer portal. - Lincoln Journal Star

  04/27/22 - Kaine WilliamsrJr/2026, Nebraska, 6-2, 215 (DS#999 FS) + More +

Alabama second-year safety Kaine Williams entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, he announced on Twitter. Williams became the Tide's 17th scholarship player to enter the portal since the end of last season. According to NCAA rules, fall sports athletes have until May 1 to enter the portal and remain eligible to play immediately elsewhere this season. Williams was a four-star recruit in 2021 from Louisiana who ranked No. 176 nationally in 247 Sports' industry composite. He appeared in only one game as a freshman last season, in the SEC championship against Georgia, on special teams.

Alabama returned both of its starting safeties, Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams, for their senior seasons this offseason. Kristian Story and DeVonta Smith worked as Alabama's second-team safeties in Alabama's spring game, making Williams' role this season less certain. Williams joins defensive lineman Stephon Wynn as Alabama players entering the portal since the school's spring game April 16. - Birmingham News

  03/05/22 - Omar ManningrSr/2023, Nebraska, 6-2, 231 (DS#250 WR) + More +

As new Nebraska receivers coach Mickey Joseph rattled off players who are practicing in the slot position this spring, one name in particular stood out. Omar Manning, at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, is an intriguing figure at the position. "It's a big target," Joseph told reporters earlier this week. "It's kind of different. But Coach (Mark) Whipple likes a big target as an inside guy." Manning last season caught 26 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games for 3-9 Nebraska, mostly as an outside receiver. Samori Toure excelled in the slot position for NU in 2021, leading the team with 46 receptions for 898 yards and five TDs. Whipple took over as the Huskers' offensive coordinator in December and obviously brings new ideas to the table. - Lincoln Journal Star

  12/20/21 - Trey PalmerrJr/2023, Nebraska, 6-0, 192 (DS#13 WR) + More +

LSU junior wide receiver Trey Palmer has entered the transfer portal, according to reports by Rivals and 247 Sports. Palmer appeared in 11 games this year and had 30 receptions for 344 yards and three touchdowns this year. He was also a key piece of LSU's special teams as both a punt and kick returner. This year, Palmer returned 18 punts for 117 yards, good enough for No. 8 in the SEC. He also returned a punt for a touchdown in 2019 and a kickoff for a touchdown in 2020. The Kentwood athlete was a four-star recruit out of high school in the class of 2019. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  12/17/21 - *Cam JurgensrJr/2022, Nebraska, 6-3, 304 (DS#2 C) + More +

Cam Jurgens, who arguably would have been the most important returning player on Nebraska's 2022 offense, has decided to try his hand in the NFL. A three-year starter at center for the Huskers, Jurgens made the announcement via social media on Tuesday night. The Beatrice High School graduate has made 18 straight starts and 31 total for Nebraska. Although the Husker offensive line struggled mightily this season as the team slid to a 3-9 record (1-8 Big Ten), Jurgens was a bright spot. The fourth-year sophomore cleaned up the wayward-snap issues that plagued him during the previous two seasons and played a lead role in NU ranking 24th nationally in total offense at 446.6 yards per game. Nebraska's offensive line, though, struggled in pass protection and with overall consistency this season. However, Jurgens isn't part of that conversation. In fact, he's a player Husker head coach Scott Frost could've built around in 2022 as the coach tries to win enough games to retain his job into 2023. - Lincoln Journal Star

The University of Montana's punter, Brian Buschini, has had an active Monday. He was named the FCS punter of the year, entered his name into the transfer portal and picked up a scholarship offer from Nebraska all within a span of about three hours. Buschini, a Helena, Montana native, averaged 46 yards per punt during his redshirt freshman season for the Griz. According to MontanaSports.com, he had 28 punts of 50-plus yards, pinned 30 inside the 20-yard line in 69 attempts and recorded only four touchbacks. Buschini also handled kickoffs for Montana this fall. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining. - Lincoln Journal Star

  12/15/21 - Timmy BleekroderJr/2024, Nebraska, 5-08, 186 (DS#999 K) + More +

The Huskers believe they addressed one element on Sunday after landing a verbal commitment from Furman transfer kicker Timmy Bleekrode. Bleekrode, an Atlanta native, actually handled both punting and kicking at the Football Championship Subdivision school, but he is expected to most likely focus on place kicking at Nebraska. In 2021, Bleekrode made 15-of-18 field goal attempts with a season-best of 51 yards. That included making eight of his final nine tries from Sept. 25 on after missing twice in Furman's first three games. Bleekrode also connected on 30-of-32 extra points this fall. In 2020, he made 6-of-7 attempts for Furman with a long of 47 yards. - Lincoln Journal Star
