  12/29/20 - Charlie BrewerrSr/2023, Liberty, 6-1, 200 (DS#25 QB) + More +

In January, the NCAA will likely pass legislation that would allow student-athletes to transfer once without the penalty of having to sit out for one season. "There will probably be more change and movement that's going to occur," Whittingham said. "That's the way it seems to be heading. You've got to adjust as things change and try to get yourself in the best situation." The day after Utah's season ended, two quarterbacks announced they were joining the Utes: Baylor grad transfer Charlie Brewer and Texas transfer Ja'Quinden Jackson. In December, Utah also signed four-star recruit Peter Costelli. Brewer led Baylor to an 11-1 record, a spot in the Big 12 championship game and a Sugar Bowl appearance in 2019. - Deseret News

Liberty (10-1) took the lead on Alex Barbir's 44-yard field goal on the first extra possession. Coastal Carolina (11-1) got a huge break in regulation when Liberty's Joshua Mack fumbled inside the 1 with 41 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Safety Alex Spillum recovered the fumble to end the long drive.

Malik Willis ran for 137 yards and four touchdowns for Liberty. The Flames' only loss came to North Carolina State on a blocked field goal. Coastal Carolina overcame an early 14-0 deficit, and drove 72 yards to tie it in the fourth quarter. Grayson McCall ran in a 2-point conversion to make it 34-34 after throwing a 5-yard touchdown pass to Greg Latushko with 3:01 remaining. Coastal Carolina had won 12 straight. - AP College Football

  12/13/20 - Charlie BrewerrSr/2023, Liberty, 6-1, 200 (DS#25 QB) + More +

After four seasons as Baylor's starting quarterback, Charlie Brewer announced Sunday that he's entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with intentions of playing his final year of eligibility at another college. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 season didn't count against players' eligibility. Like Brewer, the graduate transfer market will likely be heavy across the country. Brewer announced his plans on Twitter, saying "It is with much thought and prayer that I will be entering the transfer portal and moving on as a graduate transfer.

A heartfelt thanks to my teammates, coach (Matt) Rhule and coach (Dave) Aranda for an amazing ride the last four years here at Baylor. I will take with me a lifetime of memories and degree from Baylor University." Brewer, who was unavailable for further comment, finished his Baylor career with 9,700 yards passing, which ranks second in school history behind Robert Griffin III's 10,366. Brewer also ranks second in school history with 65 touchdown passes behind Griffin's 78, and he ran for 1,039 yards and 22 touchdowns. - Waco Tribune-Herald

FAU (5-3, 4-2 Conference USA), the conference champion last season, was eliminated from contention for the 2020 title. The Owls, who went into the game ranked No. 3 nationally in scoring defense (12.4), allowed more than 20 points for the first time this season. Lowe was 13-of-19 passing for 209 yards with an interception and added 70 yards rushing and a score on 16 carries.

Freshman Frank Gore Jr. had 111 yards rushing, including a 73-yard touchdown in the first quarter, for Southern Miss (3-7, 2-4).   12/10/20 - T.J. GreenrSr/2023, Liberty, 5-11, 205 (DS#63 RB) + More +

The lone running back who had made a verbal commitment in Liberty's 2021 recruiting class elected to decommit from the program and reopen his recruitment early Monday afternoon. It didn't take long for the Flames to fill that void. Utah transfer TJ Green, who entered the transfer portal before the Utes' shortened season began, announced Monday evening he is transferring to Liberty.

Green, who has graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics, is immediately eligible as a graduate transfer and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He is the only running back listed in a recruiting class that currently features 10 high school seniors and three junior college transfers. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Green redshirted in 2017 and played in the 2018 and 2019 seasons with Utah. He had 59 carries for 258 yards and one touchdown in 25 games. - Lynchburg News and Advance

Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer came close to a career-high with 56 passing attempts against the Sooners, finishing short of the 63 passes he threw against Texas Tech as a freshman in 2017. Brewer completed 30 passes, one short of the season-high 31 he completed in 39 attempts in last week's win over Kansas State. Brewer threw for 263 yards against the Sooners, but wasn't satisfied with his performance. "I hate losing more than I love winning," Brewer said. "We just didn't play well enough to win and that starts with me." - Waco Tribune Herald

  12/04/20 - Malik WillisrSr/2022, Liberty, 6-1, 223 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Coastal Carolina football coach Jamey Chadwell spent a good chunk of his 24-minute press conference Wednesday speaking highly of Liberty quarterback Malik Willis and the challenges the dual-threat athlete would present to his defense. College GameDay's trip to Conway, South Carolina, and the matchup of two top 25 teams were also high on Chadwell's list of things he was looking forward to Saturday, but he was worried about slowing down the electric Willis. North Carolina State was the only team that contained Willis through the Flames' first 10 games. The coronavirus pandemic may have sacked Willis before Coastal got the chance to slow him down Saturday at Brooks Stadium.

Willis, according to reports, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week and his status for Saturday's game is in doubt. Liberty has not confirmed those reports and has not disclosed the names of players and coaches who have tested positive this season. A Sea of Red first reported the news of Willis' positive test, citing unnamed sources. "After all these questions about him, huh? Well, one, let's hope that he's OK, obviously," Chadwell said. "Hopefully it's not something that's going to be serious long-term for him. "That's disappointing, obviously, for him because I know he was probably looking forward to a big game and he's a great player," Chadwell added. "It's probably disappointing for our team, I know that, because I know they wanted to play against him. At the end of the day, they've got good players there, too, so we're going to have to still get ready and play a really great team. Let's hope that he gets better sooner rather than later." - Lynchburg News and Advance

  12/04/20 - Charlie BrewerrSr/2023, Liberty, 6-1, 200 (DS#25 QB) + More +

In the postgame conference following Baylor's triumphant victory over Kansas State, head coach Dave Aranda and Charlie Brewer's teammates sang nothing but praises for the quarterback's dynamic performance. Brewer finally came alive last Saturday and channeled his 2019 self as he went 31 of 39 for 349 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also showed off his trademark skills as a runner, leading the Bears with 23 carries for 56 yards and a pair of touchdown runs. Brewer's teammates fed off his energy and recorded a season-high 420 yards of total offense. If the Bears can bring that same energy and confidence to Norman, they can hold their own against the Sooners. - Dallas Morning News

Against Kansas State, Brewer hit 31 of 39 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 56 yards and two scores on 23 carries. He hit four straight passes for 45 yards on Baylor's final drive to set up John Mayers' game-winning 30-yard field goal as time expired. - Waco Tribune Herald
