Electric slot receiver DeMario Douglas told reporters one week ago that he was going to announce his future plans after the Boca Raton Bowl. The fourth-year sophomore waited until Wednesday morning to make an announcement many expected was coming. Douglas formally announced he is entering his name into the NFL Draft, forgoing his final two years of eligibility and ending a career at Liberty that saw him become a dynamic weapon in the Flames' offense. "Playing in the NFL, like so many, has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. In 2023 I will be able to fulfill that dream thanks to everyone who has supported me along the way," Douglas wrote on social media. He finished his career at Liberty with 172 receptions for 2,183 yards and 16 touchdowns. Toledo contained Douglas on Tuesday evening with 16 yards on six receptions. - Lynchburg News and Advance

2022 PHIL STEEL ALL-INDEPENDENT CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM: WR Demario Douglas, Liberty,...WR Demario Douglas is 23 receiving yards away from posting the 10th 1,000-yard season in program history and the first since Antonio Gandy-Golden tallied a program-record 1,396 yards in 2019. Douglas would become the seventh different Flame to record a 1,000-yard season all-time. Douglas ranks No. 30 in the country in receiving yards (977) and No. 18 in receptions per game (6.1). - Liberty Football

Slot receiver DeMario Douglas has arguably been the Flames' most important offensive weapon over the past two seasons. He has racked up 1,678 yards and 12 touchdowns on 125 catches to easily outpace every other receiver on the roster. Douglas, who is a fourth-year sophomore, is draft eligible after completing his undergraduate in sport management. Will he test the NFL Draft waters or potentially return with two years of eligibility remaining? "I'm going to wait until after the bowl game," Douglas said Wednesday. "I'm here right now with the team and I feel like nothing's in the way of that."

The 5-foot-8, 170-pound Douglas revealed earlier this season he is the first man in his family to graduate from college. He celebrated a birthday last Thursday by taking his final class of the semester and then calling his family. "I had my last class on my birthday and then I called my mom and them and burst into tears," he said. "It's like, I'm the first to do it. It's crazy, it's definitely crazy." - Lynchburg News and Advance

Liberty wide receiver DeMario Douglas was named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) freshman All-America team Monday. Douglas, a redshirt freshman, was selected as a punt returner. He ranked ninth in the nation with a punt return average of 11.1 yards, and he added a 73-yard punt return touchdown in the Flames' Oct. 10 victory over Louisiana-Monroe. Douglas is the second player in program history to be honored on the FWAA freshman All-America team (Austin Lewis in 2018).   Treon Sibley and Damario Douglas starred on special teams and Liberty beat Louisiana-Monroe 40-7 on Saturday. Sibley recovered a dropped snap by punter Daniel Sparks in the end zone for a 21-0 lead in the second quarter and blocked a punt that Chancellor Smith recovered to lead 31-0 in the third quarter. Douglas had a 38-yard punt return that led to Liberty's first points and returned another 73 yards for a fourth-quarter TD. Malik Willis, who sat out Liberty's last game with an injury to his left arm, returned to throw for 177 yards and rush for another 87, including a touchdown. Interceptions by Javon Scruggs and Marcus Haskins led to scores and a 24-0 halftime lead. Liberty, in its third FBS season, is 4-0 for the first time since 2008. The Flames outgained the Warhawks 400-198. Colby Suits, who came in averaging over 260 yards passing to lead the Sun Belt Conference, was just 13 of 29 for 78 yards and two interceptions for ULM (0-5) before giving way to Jeremy Hunt, who threw for a touchdown in the final quarter. Josh Pederson became the fifth tight end in ULM history to go over 1,000 career yards receiving. Because of state COVID restrictions, attendance was limited to 1,000 fans. - AP College/Liberty Football
