  01/13/21 - Coy CronkrSr/2021, Iowa, 6-5, 305 (DS#36 OT) + More +

Coy Cronk's first love was baseball. The larger he got, the more he gravitated towards football. It was the right move and one Cronk hopes provides his first post-college profession. The 2016 Central Catholic graduate declared for the upcoming NFL draft, signing with agent Neil Cornrich of NC Sports, LLC. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Cronk spent this season at Iowa as a graduate transfer after playing offensive tackle for four seasons at Indiana. Because of the coronavirus, the NCAA instituted a policy that the 2020 season would not count against a student-athlete's eligibility, meaning Cronk could have returned next season for a sixth year. - Indianapolis Star/News

  01/02/21 - *Daviyon NixonJr/2021, Iowa, 6-3, 313 (DS#2 DT) + More +

Iowa junior defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon and senior end Chauncey Golston announced Wednesday they are entering the 2021 NFL draft. Senior end Zach VanValkenburg said he will play one more season for the Hawkeyes. Nixon had little if anything left to prove as a pro prospect, becoming a consensus first-team All-America and the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year after a dominant 2020 season. He tied for the Big Ten lead in quarterback sacks with 5.5, had 13.5 tackles for losses, and anchored one of the best defenses in the nation.

"I am very happy for Daviyon and his family," Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said, in a statement. "I know he put a lot of time into making the choice to take this step. Since he arrived on campus, Daviyon put in a tremendous amount of work to be a difference maker for us on defense and in the locker room. A year ago he was a part-time player, and today he leaves our program as the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year and will likely be a consensus All-American. His teammates love him and his coaches will miss coaching him on and off the field." - The Gazette

On Wednesday, Daviyon Nixon became the 27th player in Hawkeye football history to earn consensus all-American status when he was named a first-team all-America defensive tackle by the Football Writers Association of America. A player needs to gain first-team status on at least three of five specific all-America teams to clinch "consensus" distinction. And Nixon is now 3-for-3 - having pocketed first-team honors from the FWAA, Sporting News and Associated Press - with the American Football Coaches Association team on deck Thursday and the Walter Camp being revealed Jan. 7. - Iowa City Press-Citizen
