  10/25/21 - Kayden LylesrSr/2023, Florida State, 6-2, 315 (DS#999 C) + More +

Wisconsin offensive lineman Kayden Lyles says he's transferring. Lyles tweeted Monday that he plans to go elsewhere for his final season of eligibility. "Though my time as a Badger has come to an end on the field, I'll forever be thankful to the fans, coaches, staff and - especially - to my teammates for all of their support," Lyles said. Lyles made a combined 16 starts on both sides of the line for Wisconsin. He started seven games at defensive end in 2018, four at left guard in 2019, four at center in 2020 and one at center this season. He appeared in five games this season, sitting out the last two. It's the second straight week a Wisconsin player has revealed plans to transfer. Wide receiver/kick returner Devin Chandler entered the transfer portal last week.   10/15/21 - DJ UiagaleleirSr/2025, Florida State, 6-4, 229 (DS#32 QB) + More +

DJ Uiagalelei passed for 181 yards and one touchdown, Kobe Pace rushed for 76 yards and another score, and Clemson held off Syracuse 17-14 on Friday night. Clemson (4-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), coming off a bye week, played its first game as a team not ranked by the AP since Nov. 22, 2014, a 28-0 win against Georgia State, and held on for the victory after Syracuse place-kicker Andre Szymt missed a 48-yard field goal attempt with 38 seconds left. Syracuse (3-4, 0-3) is in the same boat, but the Orange aren’t winning. They came into the game after consecutive ACC losses to Florida State and then-No. 19 Wake Forest that were decided on the final play of each game, and that seemed a possibility again on a night Orange tailback Sean Tucker continued his amazing season with 157 yards rushing on 22 carries. - Clemson/AP College Football

Jordan Travis threw three touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores as Florida State upset North Carolina for the second year in row, winning 35-25 on Saturday. The Seminoles (2-4, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) have won back-to-back games for the first time since 2019. Travis ran for 121 yards on 14 carries and completed 11 of 13 passes for 145 yards. Two of his touchdown throws went to Ontaria Wilson and another to Malik McClain. The Tar Heels (3-3, 2-3), who began the season in the Top 10, lost for the first time in four home outings despite two touchdown passes and 108 yards rushing from quarterback Sam Howell. Howell hit Kamari Morales in the end zone on a 21-yard play on North Carolina's first possession of the second half to close within 21-17.

Florida State responded with Travis' 1-yard sneak. The Seminoles scored again on Travis' 6-yard toss to Wilson. North Carolina coach Mack Brown fell to 0-11 vs. his alma mater (including 0-8 while in charge of the Tar Heels). Travis, who sparked an upset of a then-unbeaten North Carolina team last October, ran 53 yards for a second-quarter touchdown as the Seminoles took a 14-10 lead. He had 87 yards on the ground in the first half. Travis threw 32 yards to Wilson for a touchdown on Florida State's next possession to stretch the lead with 53 seconds left in the half.   Dante Miller scored on a 65-yard run with 5:38 remaining in the game and Columbia held off Central Connecticut 22-20 in nonconference play on Saturday. Central Connecticut pulled within 15-13 - missing the two-point conversion try - with 6:55 left to play on Romelo Williams' 16-yard TD toss to Tyshaun James. Miller's TD run came on the third play of the ensuing drive to push the Lions' lead to 22-13. The Blue Devils added a TD with 57 seconds left on Williams' 22-yard TD toss to Erik Surratt, but failed to recover the onside kick.

Gabriel Hollingsworth staked Columbia (3-1) to a 7-0 lead after one quarter with a 1-yard scoring run. Alex Felkins stretched the Lions' lead to 10-0 with a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter, but Williams answered with a 14-yard TD toss to Jadd Dolegala to pull the Blue Devils within 10-7 at halftime. Columbia added a safety in the third quarter to up its lead to 12-7. Felkins kicked a 30-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to push the Lions' advantage to nine.   09/26/21 - DJ UiagaleleirSr/2025, Florida State, 6-4, 229 (DS#32 QB) + More +

Clemson tumbled to No. 25 in The Associated Press college football poll on Sunday, snapping its streak of 97 straight weeks in the top 10. The Tigers (2-2) lost for the second time this season Saturday - falling in double overtime to North Carolina State - and dropped 16 spots from No. 9 in the AP Top 25, which is presented by Regions Bank. Clemson's top-10 streak was tied with Alabama for the longest current run in college football and second-longest in the history of the AP poll, behind Miami's 137 from 1985-93.

The Crimson Tide remained No. 1 with 58 first-place votes out of 62. No. 2 Georgia received the remaining four first-place votes. Oregon stayed No. 3. Penn State moved up two spots to No. 4, Iowa held at No. 5 and Oklahoma slipped two spots to No. 6. Cincinnati moved up a spot to No. 7 and Arkansas jumped eight spots to No. 8 after beating Texas A&M. The Razorbacks have their best ranking since they were No. 8 early in the 2012 season. That season, Arkansas lost its second game of the season to Louisiana-Monroe and was never ranked again. The Razorbacks had finished fifth the season before under Bobby Petrino. No. 9 Notre Dame and Florida rounded out the top 10. - AP College Football

  08/23/21 - Jashaun CorbinrJr/2022, Florida State, 5-11, 203 (DS#29 RB) + More +

Florida State running back Jashaun Corbin is back and healthy and nobody is happier about that than the redshirt sophomore himself. "I definitely found my youth again," said Corbin, who is coming off his first season with the Seminoles. The 6-foot, 220-pounder started eight of the nine games last season, finishing second on the team with 401 rushing yards and five touchdowns as he continued to work his way back from a devastating hamstring injury he suffered at the start of the 2019 season while at Texas A&M. But as FSU enters the midway point of fall camp, Corbin's demonstrated the quickness and drive that made him one of the top all-purpose backs in the country out of Rockledge High in 2018. It was his performance in last Saturday's scrimmage that drew praise from the coaching staff.

"Jashaun Corbin showed flashes of why we brought him here," said offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. "He showed flashes of that starter at a high level at a young age. He went through a time where he had to get healthy and he went through that year the first year back and today was the best I have seen him run since he's been on this campus." "The scrimmage kind of was like … the light bulb went off for me and I just played ball, I stopped thinking and just trusted myself and just played ball," added Corbin. While FSU finished in the bottom half of the ACC in total offense last season, the Seminoles did show significant improvement in the run game. The team averaged close to 200 yards per game on the ground, with quarterback Jordan Travis (559 yards) and tailbacks La'Damian Webb (369 yards), Lawrance Toafili (356 yards) and Corbin making up most of the production. "Getting back to how I used to play and just knowing when it's time to be physical and when it's time to make guys miss," said Corbin. "It definitely feels good to get back into that mode again." - Orlando Sentinel

  08/20/21 - Trey BensonrJr/2024, Florida State, 6-0, 216 (DS#2 RB) + More +

Trey Benson remembers the day immediately. December 1st, the Tuesday practice before Oregon's game at Cal, the freshman running back suffered a season-ending knee injury. "Basically," Benson said. "I tore everything." Benson tore his anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, lateral meniscus, medial meniscus and another tendon. He missed spring practice and lost over 20 pounds following surgery because he couldn't workout his lower body and felt down in wake of the injury. Benson gained the weight back this summer and has been back on the field through the first week of fall camp and says he's 95% recovered and "should be back before Sept. 4" when the Ducks open the season against Fresno State.

"I'm way stronger upper body now," Benson said. "I'm probably one of the strongest; me and CJ (Verdell) are probably close upper-body wise. I got better mentally as well too...I used to be negative all the time. Now, positive is the key." With Verdell and Travis Dye atop Oregon's depth chart for a third straight season, the competition at running back is for a complementary or situational role. Cyrus Habibi-Likio did that the past few years but is now at Boise State. Sean Dollars showed he was a viable option to take over but an offseason knee injury will keep him out well into the season. - The Oregonian
