  03/10/20 - Desmond RidderrSr/2022, Cincinnati, 6-3, 213 (DS#3 QB) + More +

Cincinnati football has canceled the spring game scheduled for April 10 as a precautionary measure due to the new coronavirus, UC announced Tuesday. The decision came hours after Gov. Mike DeWine provided recommendations Tuesday for high school, collegiate and professional sports events at indoor facilities in Ohio take place without spectators. Additionally, UC will limit outdoor events to crowds of 150 spectators or less until May 31, 2020. The basketball team plans to travel to Fort Worth, Texas this weekend for the American Athletic Conference Tournament. - Cincinnati Enquirer

  03/08/20 - Noah DavisrSr/2022, Cincinnati, 6-4, 244 (DS#999 TE) + More +

Tight end Josiah Deguara is another exiting offensive mainstay UC must replace, though there appears to be plenty of options for coordinator and position coach Mike Denbrock to work with. Davis, a former St. Xavier standout, has a prototypical look at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds and enters healthy after spending significant time sidelined by injuries during his Michigan State career. Among those at the position: Bruno Labelle (experienced senior; great blocker), junior Leonard Taylor (has shown explosive play ability in practice his first two seasons) and sophomore Josh Whyle (plenty of talent, must get/stay healthy). "As a whole that group is still really strong," Fickell said. "I know we lost Josiah, who obviously was kind of the heart and soul of that group, but to have Bruno back, to have Leonard Taylor where he is right now and to add a few new guys...it still is a really good looking group. A really intelligent group." - Cincinnati Enquirer

  03/08/20 - Jerome FordrJr/2022, Cincinnati, 5-11, 211 (DS#17 RB) + More +

Michael Warren II will not be easy to replace in the backfield, not just because of his talent but also coach Luke Fickell routinely said Warren provided energy and a personality that helped set the tone for the entire program. Senior Gerrid Doaks is a known commodity, but the addition of 5-foot-11, 212-pound Alabama transfer Jerome Ford, a former four-star recruit, upgrades the talent level at the position. "I think his ability in the weight room and some of those things, we've seen in this short amount of time," Fickell said. "I think we'll see more when we get the pads on. We knew him a lot out of high school, which is a great thing."

Ford, who is immediately eligible and can play three seasons at UC, rushed 31 times for 151 yards (4.9 yards per) and three touchdowns in eight career games for the Crimson Tide. "It's a great example to our guys, too," Fickell said. "He's a guy that's come in, he's going to have a lot of talent but he's still got to be who we are. That's going to be the biggest transition. The transition is not going to be carrying the football and what he can do. The transition is, can he figure out all those little things and expectations that we have? Not that he didn't have them (at Alabama), but every place is a little bit different." - Cincinnati Enquirer

Desmond Ridder ran for 105 yards and three touchdowns and threw a scoring pass to lead No. 23 Cincinnati to a 38-6 victory over Boston College on Thursday in the weather-delayed Birmingham Bowl. The Bearcats (11-3) reached 11 wins for the second straight season and fourth in program history, bouncing back from two straight losses to No. 15 Memphis. The Eagles (6-7) were outgained 459-164 in total yards to finish a turbulent postseason. Coach Steve Addazio was fired after seven seasons and star tailback A.J. Dillon declared for the NFL draft and skipped the bowl game. Dillon was clearly missed. Wide receivers coach Rich Gunnell led the team through the bowl game, while newly hired Jeff Hafley was on hand as a spectator after finishing his duties as Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator.

The game was interrupted by a weather delay of about 1 1/2 hours midway through the first quarter. Boston College got its only points on special teams. Mike Palmer blocked a field goal and Brandon Sebastian scooped it up and returned it 67 yards in the third quarter. Ridder had two 13-yard scoring runs and a 14-yarder, setting a Cincinnati bowl record for rushing and total TDs. He had 21 carries and also passed for 95 yards with an 8-yard score to Malick Mbodj before leaving the game early in the fourth quarter. Michael Warren Jr. also had 105 yards on 21 carries. - AP College Football
