Jayden Daniels scored on a 17-yard scramble with 34 seconds left and threw three touchdown passes to ailing Brandon Aiyuk, leading No. 18 Arizona State to a 38-34 comeback victory over Washington State on Saturday. Arizona State (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) trailed by three after Blake Mazza made a 31-yard field goal with 2 1/2 minutes left. Taking over at their own 25-yard line, the Sun Devils moved quickly down the field behind Daniels' pinpoint passing.

The freshman capped the drive with his scramble, helicoptering off a defender into the end zone. Daniels threw for 363 yards on 26-of-36 passing. Aiyuk had seven catches for 196 yards despite an illness that kept him out for portions of the game. Anthony Gordon threw for 466 yards and three touchdowns, but Washington State (3-3, 0-3) was again let down by its defense. The Cougars lead the nation in passing yards per game, are fourth in total offense and eighth in scoring. - Arizona State/AP College Football

Eno Benjamin scored his third touchdown of the game on a 3-yard run with 4:41 remaining, leading Arizona State to a 24-17 victory over No. 15 California on Friday night. The Golden Bears (4-1, 1-1) lost their perfect record and quarterback Chase Garbers to a right shoulder injury, spoiling their highest ranking in a decade. The loss also left the Pac-12 with no undefeated teams before the end of September. The Sun Devils (4-1, 1-1) bounced back from a 34-31 loss to Colorado in the conference opener last week thanks to a strong performance by Benjamin. He had 29 carries for 100 yards, also scoring on an 11-yard run in the first quarter and a 4-yarder in the third quarter. Jayden Daniels added 174 yards passing and 84 more on the ground as Arizona State earned its second road win this season against a ranked team, also beating Michigan State 10-7 two weeks ago. - Arizona State/AP College Football

  09/06/19 - Eno BenjaminJr/2020, Arizona State, 5-09, 207 (DS#13 RB) + More +

Arizona State's Eno Benjamin slipped into an open area across the middle, sprinted past a defender and into the end zone for a long fourth-quarter touchdown. Until that big play, the Sun Devils seemed bogged down in the desert sand, unable to get out of their own way. Struggling against an FCS opponent wasn't exactly what they had in mind for a Top 25 tuneup. Benjamin caught a 72-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, Cristian Zendejas kicked four field goals and Arizona State labored to a 19-7 win over Sacramento State on Friday night. "We can't play offense on our heels," Arizona State coach Herm Edwards said. "That's what it looked like a lot of tonight."

Arizona State (2-0) overcame inexperience - 25 freshmen saw action - with a convincing 30-7 opening win against Kent State. The Sun Devils saw Friday night's game as a chance to clean up a few things with a road game against No. 19 Michigan State next. Instead, they had a few growing pains against the Hornets (1-1) after beating them 55-0 in the teams' only other meeting. Arizona State's offense sputtered, plagued by off-target passes, drops and an ineffective running game against a team ranked 115th in total defense last season - in the FCS. "As an offense, I really didn't feel like we played to the standard we set as an offense," said Arizona State's Jayden Daniels, who threw for 304 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-27 passing. - AP College Football

  08/16/18 - Jack JonesrSr/2022, Arizona State, 5-11, 177 (DS#34 CB) + More +

Arizona State's talented and deep secondary just got even deeper. Former five-star recruit Jack Jones has joined the Sun Devils and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He played for two seasons at USC before attending a junior college in 2018-19. Jones is a product of Long Beach Poly High School where he played under Antonio Pierce, now ASU's linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator.

He was rated the No. 19 overall prospect and No. 2 cornerback in the 2016 class by 247Sports and becomes the second-highest-rated recruit in 247Sports history to suit up for the Sun Devils, behind only Vontaze Burfict. Jones was a reserve for the Trojans in 2016 but started at cornerback the next season, managing 40 tackles, eight pass breakups and a team-leading four interceptions. - Arizona Republic
