 Hamp Sisson, Furman, Player News

  09/10/21 - QB Hamp SissonrJr/2024, Furman, 6-0, 190 (DS#999 QB) + More +

SEPT 6 SOCON FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hamp Sisson, Jr., QB, Furman, Birmingham, Ala.,...Furman quarterback Hamp Sisson went 25-for-40 for a career-high 362 yards and three touchdowns as the Paladins opened the season with a 29-18 win over No. 24 North Carolina A&T on Saturday. Sisson's 362 passing yards were the second-most in a game in the 117-year history of the Furman football program and more than doubled his 2020-21 seasonal average of 179.7 yards per game. The Birmingham, Alabama, native's 87-yard touchdown strike to tight end Ryan Adams in the third quarter tied for the fourth-longest pass play in program history and provided what would prove to be the game-winning points as the Paladins scored their first home win over a ranked opponent since 2018. Sisson also threw touchdowns of 17 and 41 yards on the day. Other nominees: Jaylan Adams (The Citadel), Quay Holmes (ETSU), Tommy Pollack (Mercer), Liam Welch (Samford), Seth Morgan (VMI), TJ Jones (Western Carolina) and Irvin Mulligan (Wofford). - Southern Conference Football

  09/04/21 - QB Hamp SissonrJr/2024, Furman, 6-0, 190 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Hamp Sisson passed for a career-high 362 yards with three touchdowns as Furman knocked off a ranked North Carolina A&T 29-18 in a season opener for both teams on Saturday. Furman turned two third-quarter turnovers into long touchdown passes. Sisson fired a 41-yarder to Joshua Harris and then a career-long 87-yard catch-and-run to Ryan Miller as the Paladins built a 23-3 lead against NCA&T, which was ranked No. 25 in the FCS football poll.

The Paladins defense set up both quick strikes. First with Travis Blackshear intercepting NCA&T's Jason Fowler. On the Aggies next possession, Furman's Kam Brinson tackled Fowler at the goal line, forcing a fumble recovered by Garden Gilby. That set up the Sisson-to-Miller hookup as Miller, a tight end, caught a short pass in the flat and outran the defense all the way to the end zone - the fourth-longest pass reception in program history. He finished with 124 yards on four catches. The Aggies hadn't played since December of 2019 as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference sat out both the 2020 fall season and 2021 spring season. NCA&T has since left the MEAC and to compete in the Big South Conference. - AP College Football

  03/06/21 - QB Hamp SissonrJr/2024, Furman, 6-0, 190 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Ryan Miller scored the tying touchdown with 2:53 left in the fourth quarter, and Furman rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat Samford 44-37 in overtime on Saturday. Hamp Sisson rolled right and threw it back across the field to Miller who split the defense with a burst up the left hash marks, going 73 yards for the score. Miller finished with three catches for 96 yards and two TDs for the Paladins (2-1, 2-1 Southern Conference), ranked No. 17 in the FCS Top 25. Furman trailed 37-23 in the middle of the fourth quarter. Sisson rolled right and connected with Ryan DeLuca in the near corner of the end zone for a 31-yard TD pass with 6:12 left. Furman went on offense first in overtime and Devin Wynn gave the Paladins the lead with a 9-yard TD run. The Bulldogs (1-2, 1-2) got to the 2 before Furman's Matt Sochovka forced a fumble by Jay Stanton and Cally Chizik recovered it to secure the win for the Paladins. Sisson passed for 277 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Wynn ran 21 times for 106 yards and a touchdown, and DeLuca had four catches for 114 yards and a score. - Furman/AP College Football
