  2023 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE JACOBS BLOCKING AWARD WINNER: Jacob Johanning, R-Sr., OL, Furman,...Johanning collects Furman's 16th Jacobs Blocking Award. This season marks the first time the Paladins have received the honor since 2017 when Matthew Schmidt won the award. Johanning helped Furman rank second in the SoCon in rushing yards (160 yds/game) and fortified the offensive line that protected the SoCon Offensive Player of the Year Tyler Huff and SoCon Freshman of the Year Carson Jones.   2023 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tyler Huff, Gr., QB, Furman,...Entering postseason play, Furman's Tyler Huff is 14th in the FCS in completion percentage (.667). Huff leads all SoCon quarterbacks in rushing yards (488), which is 10th overall in the conference, despite missing the final two games of the regular season due to injury. Huff has completed 150-of-225 passes with just four interceptions this season. In addition to his nine passing TDs, he has also rushed for five scores. During a three-game stretch in October, Huff tossed two touchdowns in each game while rushing for at least 79 yards in each contest. Huff claimed SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season and was the SoCon Offensive Player of the Month in October.   2023 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE CO-FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Carson Jones, QB, Furman,...Furman's Jones is the first Paladin to be named SoCon Freshman of the Year by the coaches. In six games played, including two starts, Jones was 57-for-101 for 542 passing yards and seven touchdowns to just two interceptions. Jones was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 6 for his play at Chattanooga on Nov. 4. Coming into the game during the second quarter following an injury to Tyler Huff, Jones went 14-for-27 for 139 yards and two touchdown passes. The owner of 38 starts and 44 games played in his Paladin career, Blackshear tallied 41 tackles this year. He had a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 41-3 road win over VMI, and this past Saturday landed SoCon Special Teams Player-of-the-Week accolades after returning two blocked field goals for a total of 95 yards, including one that covered 65 yards for a touchdown - the first such play in program history. The 5-foot-11, 231-pound redshirt junior rushed for 963 yards and 10 touchdowns in the regular season, his bid for 1,000 yards postponed after exiting the Wofford game with the Paladins up, 56-21 in the third quarter. The Fayetteville, N.C., native's campaign was highlighted by a career high 252-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance in a win over Western Carolina, for which he was named Stats Perform National Offensive Player of the Week.   Tyler Huff threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Furman to a 31-6 victory over Elon on Saturday in the first round of the FCS Championship. Furman led 14-3 at halftime on the strength of a 30-yard TD pass from Huff to Ryan Miller and a 10-yard touchdown run by Devin Abrams. The Paladins wrapped it up with a 75-yard drive that took more than nine minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter, capped by Huff scoring on a 9-yard run. Grant Robinson later added a 25-yard touchdown run.

Huff completed 16 of 26 passes for 140 yards and Dominic Roberto had 98 yards rushing for Furman (10-2). Huff added 93 yards rushing and the Paladins had 251 yards on the ground. The Phoenix (8-4) gained 315 yards but were 5-for-17 on third down, 1-for-5 on fourth and reached the red zone once. Elon's Skyler Davis kicked 51- and 52-yard field goals, making him 7 of 8 on 50-plus-yard attempts this season. He tied the FCS single-season record for 50-plus-yard FGs. ULM's Jesse Garcia in 1983 and Western Carolina's Kirk Roach in 1987 were 7 of 12 each. - Furman/AP College Football
