2019 LOU GROZA AWARD WINNER: Rodrigo Blankenship, Georgia,...Georgia graduate place-kicker Rodrigo Blankenship has been named the winner of the 2019 Lou Groza Award, given to nation's top place-kicker, at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards held at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta on Thursday night. Blankenship, a native of Marietta, Ga., is the SEC's second leading scorer this year, averaging 9.2 points per game, and connecting on 25-of-31 field goal attempts and all 198 of his career PATs, including all 44 this year.He has drilled three 50-yard field goals during his team's 11-2 mark. Blankenship is the FBS active leader by 16 with a total of 78 made field goals. He is UGA's all-time leading scorer with 432 poin ts, which ranks second all-time in league history. The former walk-on's school record 198 consecutive PATs ranks second in SEC history. 2019 SEC FOOTBALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Georgia placekicker Rodrigo Blankenship has been named the SEC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league's head coaches. Blankenship graduated Cum Laude from Georgia in December 2018 with a degree in Digital and Broadcast Journalism. He is currently enrolled in a Journalism Master's program and has a 3.65 grade point average. Earlier this fall, Blankenship was named one of the 12 recipients of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athl ete Award for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. He has been a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has also served on the SEC Football Leadership Council. A finalist for the Lou Groza Award, Blankenship is second in SEC history with 428 career points. George Pickens scored Georgia's only touchdown, Rodrigo Blankenship booted four field goals and the defense stymied Texas A&M, leading the No. 4 Bulldogs to a lackluster 19-13 victory over the 24th-ranked Aggies on Saturday. Georgia (10-1, 7-1 Southeaste rn Conference, No. 4 CFP) wrapped up its conference schedule and stayed on course to make a run at the College Football Playoff. While the Bulldogs struggled offensively, the defense turned in another dominating performance. Texas A&M (7-4, 4-3) was held to just minus-1 yards rushing and 274 yards overall, one week after piling up 319 yards on the ground in a rout of South Carolina.But it was a struggle all the way for the Bulldogs, who managed only 260 total yards and didn.t seal the victory und er D.Andre Swift broke off an 11-yard run on third-and-1 with 2 1/2 minutes remaining. Blankenship connected on field goals of 41, 49, 37 and 31 yards to become Georgia.s career scoring leader with 418 points. Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship has been virtually flawless this season in the final year of his illustrious college career. Blankenship has gone 11 of 11 on field goals and has made all 25 of his extra-point attempts. He made a 50-yarder against Tenn essee last week to improve to 5 of 6 for his career on field-goal attempts from at least 50 yards out.
