Wyoming is set to add a wide receiver from the SEC. Vanderbilt graduate transfer Devin Boddie announced Saturday he plans to join the Cowboys for the 2023 season. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound slot receiver had 29 receptions for 263 yards and a touchdown in 2021 with the Commodores. Boddie's 2022 season was cut short by injury after he had three catches for 61 yards (20.3 yards per). Boddie was a three-star recruiting coming out of Memphis and also held offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and Louisville. UW lost wide receiver Joshua Cobbs to the portal after the regular season. Boddie still has three years of eligibility remaining. - Casper Star-Tribune

2022 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: PK - John Hoyland, So., Wyoming,...Hoyland made 20 of 23 field goals (87.0 percent) in 2022. In addition to leading the Mountain West and ranking No. 9 in the nation in field goals made, his 20 field goals tied the Wyoming single-season school record. He is tied with former Cowboys Cory Wedel, who made 20 field goals in 1996, and J.D. Wallum, who made 20 in 2001. Hoyland's field-goal percentage of 87.0 percent was No. 2 in the MW and No. 22 nationally. He made three field goals of over 50 yards this season - 51, 53 and 55. His 55-yarder is tied for the fourth longest in the FBS this season and is the longest in the Mountain West this year. Hoyland was named a Semifinalist for the 2022 Lou Groza Award. He was named a 2022 PFF (Pro Football Focus) Second Team Mid-Season All-American. Hoyland was selected the MW Special Teams Player of the Week three times this season. - Wyoming Football

2022 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: LB - Easton Gibbs, So., Wyoming,...Gibbs not only ranked No. 3 in the conference and 23rd nationally in tackles this season, at 9.2 tackles per game, but he recorded the first 100-tackle season of his career, with 111. He became only the 61st Cowboy in the 126-year history of Cowboy Football to record 100 tackles in a single season. Gibbs' 111 tackles ties him for the 29th best single-season tackle total in school history with former UW safety Marcus Epps, who had 111 tackles in 2016. He will be able to add to that total in Wyoming's bowl appearance later this year. He posted double figures in tackles in five games this season. Gibbs also ranked third on the Cowboy team in tackles for loss, with 8.0. He added 2.0 sacks, four quarterback hurries, one pass break-up and one fumble recovery on the season. His fumble recovery was made in the end zone for a touchdown in a 40-37 double overtime win over Tulsa. - Wyoming Football

NIU running back Harrison Waylee announced Friday he was entering the transfer portal, the second year in a row the Huskies will have to replace the team's leading rusher. Last season, running back Jay Ducker ran for over 1,000 yards and was the MAC Freshman of the Year before transferring to Memphis. Coach Thomas Hammock could not be reached for comment. In a statement, Waylee thanked Hammock and the coaching staff for making his time with the Huskies a great experience. "Over the last three years I have grown as a player, student and person as a result of this community," Waylee said in the statement. Waylee played in all but one game this year, rushing for 899 yards and five touchdowns.

He was hurt after five games last year but still ran for 574 yards and four touchdowns, plus was the leading rusher in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. Waylee's injury last year paved the way for Ducker to take over as the lead back, running 218 times for 1,184 yards and three touchdowns. He was named the MAC Freshman of the Year and then transferred to Memphis, where he ran for 461 yards on 97 carries and five touchdowns this season. The Huskies won the MAC last year, but went 3-9 this year. - DeKalb Daily Chronicle

Jayden Clemons threw for a touchdown and ran for another score to help Wyoming beat Colorado State 14-13 Saturday. Wyoming (7-3, 5-1 Mountain West) went three-and-out on the game's first drive and Tory Horton returned the ensuing punt 72 yards for a touchdown and Michael Boyle kicked a 40-yard field goal to give the Rams a 10-0 lead with 14:10 left in the second quarter. Clemons capped a 12-play, 69-yard drive with a 14-yard scoring run - the first touchdown of his career - with 34 seconds to play in the first half and Boyle added a 25-yard field goal that made it 13-7 with 12:55 remaining in the game.

The Colorado State (2-8, 2-4) defense forced a three-and-out but Horton muffed the punt, Wyoming took possession in Rams territory and, two plays later, Clemons hit Alex Brown for a 32-yard touchdown - the sophomore's sixth career reception and first career TD - that gave the Cowboys their first lead of the game and capped the scoring with 10:47 to play. Colorado State responded with a 10-play, 52-yard drive that took five minute, 59 seconds off the clock but Boyle missed a 40-yard field-goal attempt with 4:48 left and Wyoming held on from there. - Wyoming/AP College Football

There was concern during fall camp that the defensive end position could be a weak link for Wyoming in 2022. Super senior Garrett Crall finally ran out of eligibility and Solomon Byrd (USC) and Jaylen Pate (Northwestern) transferred to Power 5 programs. Then Sabastian Harsh, the young pass rusher Craig Bohl had been bragging about since the spring, went down with a season-ending knee injury just before the opener at Illinois.

Despite the attrition and the loss of Harsh, the three-man weave between sophomore DeVonne Harris and redshirt freshmen Oluwaseyi Omotosho and Braden Siders has developed into one of the team's strengths. "They've exceeded my expectations," Bohl said Monday. The Pokes are currently tied for sixth in the FBS in total sacks with 25.0. Harris, who had 3.0 sacks during UW's 28-14 victory over Utah State, is tied for fourth nationally with 7.0 sacks. "It's a great rotation," Harris said after his breakout performance. "Coach Bohl had us get rejuvenated during the bye week." - Casper Star-Tribune
