  Following a meeting of its CEO Group, the Pac-12 announced Monday that organized team activities, with limited exceptions, are not allowed through May 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic. That puts an end to any possibility of spring football practice, which Oregon State and Oregon had not officially cancelled. Through the end of May, Pac-12 teams are not allowed to have organized team practices, voluntary workouts, film study sessions, meetings or technique drills. Football teams are permitted two hours per week of virtual group activities, including film study. Other sports are allowed four hours. The Pac-12 says it is appealing to the NCAA to increase the two-hour time limit for football. Coaches are allowed to provide self-directed workout plans and demonstration videos, but they cannot watch or supervise. - The Oregonian

  Indiana redshirt sophomore quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was ready for an important spring, one that would continue to establish him as the unquestioned leader of IU's offense. The goal for Penix when IU football resumes will be to show he can last a full season. That's why he put on more than 15 pounds of muscle on his 6-foot-3 frame. At 218 pounds, Penix feels more confident handling the hits that come in playing a full Big Ten conference season. Last season, Penix played at between 200 and 205 pounds. "We talked about 220, so I hit that pretty quick," Penix said. "But just wherever is comfortable and whatever is going to help the team, and as long as I still feel like I can move, I feel good." Last year at this time, Penix was recovering from a torn ACL and was part of a three-way quarterback competition with incumbent starter Peyton Ramsey and Utah transfer Jack Tuttle. Penix won the quarterback competition out of fall camp and in six starts last season showed he was more than capable of sparking the offense.

Twice last season, Penix was named Big Ten freshman of the week, when he passed for 326 yards in IU's season opener at Ball State and when he completed 20 straight passes and passed for 286 yards at Michigan State. Overall, Penix completed 110 of 160 attempts for 1,394 yards with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding 118 yards rushing on 5.4 yards per carry and two rushing TDs. The 68.8 percent completion mark set an IU record and ranked sixth in Big Ten history. But Penix dealt with various injuries during the course of the season that was cut short Nov. 2 when he suffered a broken joint in his collarbone against Northwestern. - Herald Bulletin

  Indiana offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan has noticed improved leadership traits with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. this offseason. "He's a little bit more vocal," Sheridan said. "I think he's just more comfortable. You see his personality come out a little bit more in all phases. He's able to crack jokes with the guys and cut it up that way, so I think you just see who he truly is will come out a little more as he becomes more comfortable.   Sophomore quarterback Michael Penix Jr. said he's maintained his weight at 220 pounds while rehabbing a season-ending injury last November to repair a broken joint in his collarbone. He began throwing in mid-January and is full go for spring drills. "It was a quick process," Penix said. "It wasn't bad. I knew how bad I wanted to play, and I knew how bad I just wanted to be in this position. I never blinked, like Coach Allen said. I never blinked at all, and I was always focused on getting back and making sure that I could do whatever I can to make sure I don't have to go through that again." - Herald Bulletin

  Oklahoma defensive back Brendan Radley-Hiles was ejected from Saturday's Peach Bowl for a brutal hit on LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. With Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow scrambling toward the sideline, Radley-Hiles delivered the blindside shot to Edwards-Helaire coming out of the backfield. The officials did not throw a flag on the play, but a video review showed that Radley-Hiles leaped into a defenseless player with a shoulder to the helmet. Radley-Hiles was escorted to the locker room. Three plays later, Burrow threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson that extended LSU's lead to 28-7. - AP College Football

  Washington quarterback Jacob Eason announced Thursday he will skip his final year of college and enter the NFL draft. Eason started 13 games for Washington last season after beginning his college career at Georgia and transferring following his sophomore season. He threw for 3,132 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Huskies in a season where at times he looked like a sure first-round pick and at other times it appeared that another season of college would help his draft status. "I want to thank everyone at the UW - my teammates, the coaching staff and the fans - for making these last two years so memorable," Eason said in a statement. "I'm very happy that I was able to come home and play for the Dawgs, and will always be grateful."

Eason was a five-star recruit out of nearby Lake Stevens, Washington, who opted to go across the country to play at Georgia. He started as a freshman for the Bulldogs but lost the job to Jake Fromm during his sophomore season after suffering an injury in the season opener. Eason sat out the 2018 season after transferring to Washington and beat out Jake Haener for the starting job during fall camp in August. Eason completed 64.2% of his passes and had standout games early in the season against Eastern Washington, BYU and Arizona. His best game may have come in a loss to Oregon, in which Eason was 23 of 30 for 289 yards and three touchdowns. - AP College Football

  Washington fired offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan on Sunday following a season where the Huskies' offense failed to match expectations. It's first major move by new coach Jimmy Lake and it came less than 24 hours after the Huskies closed out Chris Petersen's tenure by routing Boise State 38-7 in the Las Vegas Bowl. Washington also announced that tight ends coach Jordan Paopao also would not be retained. Paopao has been in that role since 2013. "I've really enjoyed working alongside Bush and Jordan and appreciate their contributions to Husky football," Lake said in a statement. "These decisions are extremely difficult, but I believe it's in the best interest of our program to make these changes to align with the vision we have for our team moving forward. I wish them both nothing but the best."

Hamdan arrived in 2018 after previous offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith took the head job at Oregon State. Hamdan became an easy critic for fans as Washington's offense slumped following Smith's departure and seemed to lack innovation. This season, with Georgia transfer Jacob Eason at the helm, Washington had several games where its offense was the issue leading to losses, and play-calling at times was a significant problem. Including the bowl game win, Washington averaged 32 points per game this season. Its average last season was 26.8. In 2016, when the Huskies reached the College Football Playoff, they averaged 41.8 points per game. Hamdan was previously on Washington's staff in 2015 and 2016 before leaving to be the quarterbacks coach with the Atlanta Falcons for the 2017 season. - AP College Football

  Jacob Eason threw for 210 yards and a touchdown and Washington sent out coach Chris Petersen with a 38-7 victory over No. 18 Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday night. Richard Newton rushed for 69 yards with a short touchdown run and threw a touchdown pass for the Huskies (8-5). They capped an erratic season with a dominant finale for Petersen - who left Boise State to coach Washington - after he announced Dec. 2 he was stepping down after six seasons. Myles Bryant and Elijah Molden had interceptions, and coordinator Jimmy Lake's defense allowed 266 yards. Lake is taking over as head coach.

Jaylon Henderson threw for 48 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (12-2). They lost for the first time in five appearances in the Las Vegas Bowl. Henderson replaced Hank Bachmeier in the second half after the freshman threw his second interception. The Huskies jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead behind a methodical offense and suffocating defense. Bachmeier threw a pass up for grabs on the opening possession that was easily picked off by Bryant, and Andre Baccellia took a slant from Eason 17 yards into the end zone for the opening score. Salvon Ahmed made it 14-0 in the second quarter with an 8-yard touchdown run to cap a 13-play march, and Peyton Henry kicked a 32-yard field goal as the half ended. Eason threw a 26-yard pass to Marquis Spiker on the first play of the drive, the longest gain of the half and one of two plays for either team that gained 20 yards. Molden picked off a screen pass by Bachmeier, with Washington going up 24-0 early in the third quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Newton. - AP College Football
