  05/13/22 - Noa NgalurSo/2025, Washington, 6-1, 275 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Washington backup defensive lineman Noa Ngalu officially entered the transfer portal Thursday evening, per On3's Matt Zenitz. According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2019 class, he was rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 77 defensive line prospect in the nation. In the 2021 season, Ngalu played in two games for the Huskies in limited action. In his high school days at Menlo-Atherton (East Palo Alto, California), he was a three-year starter, playing a variety of positions including defensive tackle, offensive guard, and running back. Ngalu was also named to the San Francisco Chronicle's All-Metro first team in 2018. - On3.com

  05/09/22 - Jordan PerrymanrSr/2023, Washington, 6-0, 198 (DS#57 CB) + More +

Trent McDuffie is gone. Kyler Gordon is gone. Now, Jacobe Covington is gone too. Granted, Covington - who entered the transfer portal this week - spent most of April with UW's second team defense. Senior UC Davis transfer Jordan Perryman and sophomore Mishael Powell remain the likely starters at cornerback, and redshirt freshmen Elijah Jackson and Davon Banks appear capable of competing as well (followed by fellow redshirt freshmen Zakhari Spears and Dyson McCutcheon). Still, UW's cornerback corps suddenly lacks the blue-chip pedigrees that permeated the Jimmy Lake Era. Even if Perryman and Powell lock down those positions, it would behoove UW to bolster its depth chart at corner. - Seattle Times

  05/07/22 - Jaxson KirklandrSr/2023, Washington, 6-7, 328 (DS#12 OT) + More +

Washington left tackle Jaxson Kirkland - a two-time All-Pac-12 first-team player who dropped out of the 2022 NFL draft to undergo surgery on his right ankle - has been cleared by the NCAA to return for a sixth season this fall, he announced via a social media video. "Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a Husky," Kirkland said. "The purple and gold, the tradition, it runs through my veins. To carry on the family legacy was a dream of mine. Being developed into Sunday players is the standard we all set around here. This place is special. It has turned me into the man I am today. The brotherhood and bonds that go along with being a Dawg are unbreakable for life."

The son of former UW and NFL offensive lineman Dean Kirkland, he technically has one season of eligibility remaining. He declared for the draft prior to the NFL's Jan. 17 underclassman deadline — which is why he needed an NCAA waiver to reinstate that eligibility. He enrolled at UW for the spring quarter and attended all 15 of the program's practices, despite not being officially cleared to return. - Seattle Times

  05/06/22 - Bralen TricerJr/2024, Washington, 6-4, 259 (DS#6 DE) + More +

Zion Tupuola-Fetui is Washington's most accomplished pass-rusher. But Bralen Trice may be the hardest Husky to block. That was certainly the case this spring, according to first-year edge coach Eric Schmidt. He told The Seattle Times last week that "it's almost like a track meet. (Trice) is warming up before everybody else. He's going through the mental part of it. He's the first guy out (at practice) from our position group every day. So his entire approach to how you become great has been really good ever since we got here." Metaphors aside, Trice - a 6-foot-4, 256-pound sophomore - is no stranger to multiple sports, which is why he didn't pick up football until middle school.

"It wasn't that I didn't have interest," he said. "I played a lot of other sports growing up. I did basketball, karate, soccer, baseball. My mom really didn't want me playing football for the longest time, because she thought I'd get hurt. Then I finally got the chance and I thought, 'This is my time. I finally get to play the sport I really want to play." He played it well enough, in fact, that the three-star EDGE rusher earned offers from UW, Notre Dame, Alabama, Oregon, USC and more. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2019, then opted out of the 2020 season. In a fall without football, Trice actually improved - adding 20 pounds of muscle. - Seattle Times

  05/03/22 - Will RogersrSr/2025, Washington, 6-2, 207 (DS#17 QB) + More +

Leach repeatedly reminded those who criticized Will Rogers last season of the quarterback's youth. When Rogers took the field in a mid-October loss against Alabama, he was a game shy of a full season's worth of career starts. Leach noted that in his push for patience, and it showed in the latter half of the season. Rogers wound up breaking numerous Mississippi State single-season passing records and built a name for himself.

There will be few excuses in place for Rogers heading into the 2022 season, and he knows it. "The pressure can build up sometimes, but I try not to hear the outside noise," Rogers said. "Coach Leach says all the time to ignore the noise. That's gonna be my goal for this season, probably just to shut off social media. I don't wanna see the good, the bad. I don't wanna see any of it." FanDuel has Rogers at No. 22 in its Heisman betting lines, just a couple spots behind Alabama linebacker Will Anderson - a potential No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The odds are lofty (+8,000) but it's a testament to how his name has grown in national conversations. He was the undisputed starting quarterback during spring practice and will be moving forward. The question is if his game can continue to progress with reps. - The Clarion Ledger

  04/29/22 - Kristopher MollrSr/2023, Washington, 6-0, 214 (DS#87 OLB) + More +

UAB linebacker Kris Moll is headed back to the Sunshine State for his final year of college football at UCF. He entered the portal seeking to join a Power Five school. "I kept in contact with UCF from when I first went into the portal," Moll said. "They were trying to figure how out to get me to come to school over there because they didn't have a spot." Moll, a Miami native who attended Coral Gables High School, was headed back to the Sunshine State for his final year of college football as a graduate transfer. "Getting this opportunity to come back home for my last year, it's a blessing," he said.

The Knights had already added 5-star and Maryland transfer linebacker Terrence Lewis, who made his way campus for the spring. Shortly after spring camp started, Eastern Illinois transfer linebacker Jason Johnson, a two-time FCS All-American, verbally committed to the Knights. Moll had established himself as not only one of the best defensive players in Conference USA, but the entire country. He had won two conference championships and had received an All-American Honorable Mention. - Orlando Sentinel

  04/25/22 - Wayne TaulapaparSr/2023, Washington, 5-10, 205 (DS#49 RB) + More +

Wayne Taulapapa plays a beautiful game. Though that's up for interpretation. Taulapapa - a 5-foot-9, 200-pound running back and Virginia transfer - has built a reputation on brutality. He's more hockey enforcer than home-run hitter - a purveyor of leg-churning, contact-craving 4-yard runs and determined touchdown plunges. His style is purposeful, not picturesque. He conducts a pad-popping symphony. "Growing up in Hawaii, we love contact. That's the nature of the game, which is beautiful," Taulapapa told The Times this week. "Obviously you're going to get hit sometimes, which is fine. That's part of the game. But if you can give it back, I think it's a sight to see. It gets the team going. It gets the energy up. I think that's the best part of football." Taulapapa's your guy if you agree.

In four seasons and 40 games at UVA, the 2021 team captain - who entered the transfer portal primarily to move closer to home - compiled 1,192 rushing yards with 4.5 yards per carry, 20 total touchdowns...and a career long of 27 yards. He accepted a role as the Cavaliers' short-yardage specialist, chiseling between the tackles for extra inches. "Whatever I'm told to do, I will do it - when it comes to blocking, when it comes to pass-catching, when it comes to running the ball," said Taulapapa, who announced a commitment to UW this month and has one season of eligibility remaining. "I'm known out of Virginia as a short yardage back who attains every yard that I can, working hard - fourth-and-one, third-and-one or two. That's something I've always done at Virginia. But I do want to expand and be a better back in all areas." - Seattle Times

  11/20/21 - Will RogersrSr/2025, Washington, 6-2, 207 (DS#17 QB) + More +

Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers broke Dak Prescott's single-season program record for passing touchdowns on the Bulldogs' first drive Saturday against Tennessee State. Then he surpassed Prescott's mark in passing yards on their second possession. And he was far from done. Rogers threw for 391 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 55-10 rout of the Tigers on Saturday in Starkville. "I think it was kind of a tough time to play us and not such a bad time to play them," said Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach, who picked up his 150th career win. Mississippi State (7-4, 4-3 SEC) clinched bowl eligibility last week with a comeback win at Auburn and won Saturday for the fourth time in five games. The Bulldogs looked sharp in their tune-up before Thursday's Egg Bowl rivalry game with Ole Miss.

Austin Williams caught three touchdown passes from Rogers, who finished 28-of-34 passing. Rogers also hit Makai Polk and Malik Heath for touchdowns, while Jo'quavious Marks and Dillon Johnson each rushed for scores. Rogers' 21-yard toss to Williams to cap a strong opening drive was the sophomore signal-caller's 30th touchdown of the year, while an 8-yard pass to Jamire Calvin on the second series pushed him past the 3,793 passing yards Prescott posted in 2015. Rogers finished the game with 4,113 yards with one regular-season game and a bowl game remaining. "Anytime to have your name in the same company as Dak Prescott, it's pretty incredible," Rogers said. "I never really imagined that would happen." Rogers threw six touchdowns with no interceptions last week at Auburn to lead the Bulldogs to the 25-point comeback win. He's now thrown 34 touchdown passes against eight interceptions this season. - Mississippi State/AP College Football

  11/13/21 - Will RogersrSr/2025, Washington, 6-2, 207 (DS#17 QB) + More +

Will Rogers threw for 415 yards and six touchdowns, and Mississippi State beat No. 16 Auburn 43-34 on Saturday. Auburn (6-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) scored touchdowns on its first four possessions and led 28-3 midway through the second quarter. But Mississippi State (6-4, 4-3) rallied, scoring 40 unanswered points behind Rogers' arm. "I think the biggest thing is that we didn't get discouraged by the first half, which should have been easy to do," Mississippi State coach Mike Leach said. "That first half, I thought we kind of played tentatively and played not to lose. Then we played aggressively. We played faster." Rogers completed 44 of 54 passes, connecting with 10 different Bulldogs. Jaden Walley had seven catches for 87 yards, and Jakai Polk finished with 61 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions.

Mississippi State was held to just one field goal on its first three drives. Then Rogers threw for his six touchdowns on the Bulldogs' next seven drives. He only had three incompletions after the first quarter. "I felt like we all were just doing a good job," Rogers said of his second half. "The o-line did a good job of blocking. (Auburn) played a lot of man coverage today, and the receivers were doing a great job of getting off with their routes. It's kind of crazy to think I completed that many, because some of those were contested. I've got to give a lot of credit to my receivers." - Mississippi State/AP College Football
