Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier intends to transfer with the Broncos off to a disappointing 2-2 start. A spokesman for Boise State confirmed Tuesday that Bachmeier has filed paperwork to initiate the process of transferring. Bachmeier told ESPN he wants to find a situation that will allow him to win games and prepare for the NFL. Bachmeier will have two years of eligibility remaining. Boise State coach Andy Avalos said Tuesday that Taylen Green will be the starting quarterback for Friday's game against San Diego State.

Bachmeier has played in 29 career games at Boise State. His best season was last year, when he threw for 3,079 yards and 20 touchdowns. Bachmeier has started all four games this season for the Broncos, but he had seen some of his playing time taken by Green. Bachmeier was just 13 of 34 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' loss to UTEP last Friday. A day later, Boise State offensive coordinator Tim Plough was fired and replaced for the rest of the season by former Boise State and NFL head coach Dirk Koetter. - AP College Football

Boise State fired offensive coordinator Tim Plough on Saturday and replaced him with former college and NFL head coach Dirk Koetter for the rest of the season. Boise State head coach Andy Avalos announced the change after the Broncos were stunned in a 27-10 loss to UTEP on Friday night. Long known for its offensive ingenuity and scoring points, the Broncos (2-2) have struggled on that side of the ball, even in their two victories. Koetter has been working as an analyst for the Broncos. "This was a difficult decision, but I believe it is in the best interest of our program," Avalos said. "Our team goals are still in front of us and we are focused on working to accomplish them. Tim is a good football coach and I have no doubt he will continue to positively impact the young men he works with in the future." Koetter was Boise State's head coach from 1998-2000 and was 26-10 in his tenure with the Broncos.

His time at Boise State set the stage for the growth of the program that took place first under Dan Hawkins and then with Chris Petersen in charge. Koetter left Boise State for Arizona State where he was the head coach for six seasons and led the Sun Devils to four bowl appearances. Koetter went on to a long career in the NFL that included three seasons as the head coach in Tampa Bay where the Bucs went 19-29. He was also an offensive coordinator with Jacksonville, Atlanta twice and Tampa Bay. Plough joined Boise State in January 2021 from UC Davis where he had served as offensive coordinator and associate head coach. - AP College Football

There was no way to sugarcoat the latest injury information that Coach Dave Clawson of 19th-ranked Wake Forest had to deliver about defensive back Coby Davis. Davis was lost for the season after suffering a season-ending leg injury in a win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. Earlier in the game, Davis had put the Demon Deacons ahead to stay with an interception return for a touchdown, but now it appears his college career is over. What made Clawson more upset was the fact that Davis battled back from injuries last season and was in the best shape of his career. - Winston Salem Journal

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 41. A.T. Perry, rJr, WR, Wake Forest, 6-4, 206, 2,...Perry led Wake Forest with five catches for 142 yards and a touchdown to spearhead a 45-25 win over Vanderbilt that wasn't even as close as that score indicates. Previous week, No. 41: Perry was one of the ACC's breakout stars of 2021, finished No. 3 in the conference with 1,293 receiving yards at 18.2 yards per catch and 15 TDs. He was targeted by more than footballs as several groups made NIL offerings to lure him away, but he opted to stay and team up with quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman is out with a non-football medical issue so Mitch Griffis was the quarterback in season-opening, 44-10, win over the VMI Keydets. Griffis did well, 21 of 29 for 288 yards and three touchdowns. Perry caught three passes for 47 yards. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

Hank Bachmeier bounced back after he was benched a week earlier, throwing three touchdown passes to lead Boise State to a 31-14 victory over New Mexico on Friday night. Latrell Caples caught two of those scores for Boise State (1-1, 1-0 Mountain West). Ashton Jeanty and George Holani combined for 139 yards on 32 carries for the Broncos. The Boise State defense held the Lobos (1-1, 0-1) to 123 total yards, with more than half of that coming on Geordon Porter's 69-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. Through three quarters, New Mexico had 48 total yards. The Broncos led 10-0 at halftime before scoring three touchdowns in the second half, including one on a blocked punt. New Mexico's other fourth-quarter score came on Christian Washington's 100-yard kickoff return. - Boise State/AP College Football

Walker Merrill debuted a new look with a dark visor at the start of Tennessee football preseason practices. But the switch isn't a style statement from the sophomore wide receiver. "I have ongoing migraine problems," Merrill said Thursday. "So the sun sometimes affects it. We try to keep those minimal. So I have a dark visor." Merrill, a Brentwood native, played in 10 games with one start as a freshman in the 2021 season. He caught five passes for 52 yards.

NCAA rules prohibit visors being worn in games, so Merrill won't be able to wear the dark visor during Tennessee's games. The Vols open the season against Ball State on Sept. 1 (7 p.m. ET, SEC Network) at Neyland Stadium. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Merrill approached UT's medical team with a plan this offseason. He read an article about New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram wearing a dark visor to deal with migraines. The medical staff put in a request for one to help Merrill's situation. "I am just trying not to get them," Merrill said. "I wear the visor. Hopefully, everything goes correct. Knock on wood, I have had a better deal since I have been wearing it." - Knoxville News Sentinel

Wyoming is expecting a down year this season, but they are looking forward to good play at quarterback. Senior Hank bachmeier is consistent and plays with poise. He is one of only five returning MW signal-callers that started the majority of their team's games last season. Bachmeier didn't put up as gaudy of numbers as Utah State's Logan Bonner or Fresno State's Jake Haener, who led top-15 passing attacks last season, but his third year as a starter was plenty productive. The former four-star recruit passed for 3,079 yards and 20 touchdowns, while throwing eight interceptions and posting a 62.8% completion percentage. - Wyoming Tribune Eagle
