  07/08/22 - Eric ShawrSr/2026, Troy, 6-4, 219 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Another former South Carolina player has found a new home. Former four-star recruit Eric Shaw announced his commitment to Troy on Wednesday morning, becoming the 15th player to leave the program and land at another school. Shaw was rated the No. 257 player and No. 7 athlete in the 2020 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Once in Columbia, he split time at receiver and tight end, playing in eight games but never recording a catch.

South Carolina beat Troy last season in a 23-14 victory at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Trojans are entering their first season under new head coach Jon Sumrall, who previously served as the co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Kentucky. USC has lost 18 players to the transfer portal since Nov. 30, though only five of those departures have since committed to Power Five programs. - Rock Hill Herald

  06/19/22 - Quentin SkinnerrSr/2024, Troy, 6-0, 251 (DS#17 LS) + More +

The Troy Trojans will be getting some help on special teams as LSU long snapper Quentin Skinner announced on Friday that he would be transferring to Troy. In his three seasons with the Tigers, Skinner played in 23 games including starting all 10 games in 2020 and 12-of-13 of games in 2021 as the team's long snapper. Skinner was the No. 2 rated long snapper in the entire country coming out of high school. The Buford, GA native was a first-team all-state snapper at Buford High School and played in the 2019 All-American Bowl, as well. Skinner's addition to Troy fills a pretty sizeable hole left at the position after Troy's All-American long snapper Cameron Kaye graduated last season and is now playing in the NFL. - Troy Messenger

  06/10/22 - Peter CostellirSo/2026, Troy, 6-3, 225 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Last month, four-star quarterback Peter Costelli announced his decision to transfer from Utah to Troy and last weekend he officially arrived on campus and began workouts with the team. The California gunslinger provides some much-needed depth to a quarterback position that had just two scholarship players available during the spring. "Peter is a talented athlete with a really high upside," Troy coach Jon Sumrall said. "He throws the ball well and has the ability to make plays and extend plays with his feet. He runs well, is very intelligent and has huge growth potential. We're excited to have him as a part of our program at such a position of need." The 6-foot-3-inch, 223-pound quarterback was an Under Armour All-American in high school and the South Coast League Offensive player of the Year as a junior.

After throwing for 1,992 yards and 23 touchdowns with 354 yards and four touchdowns rushing during his junior season, he wasn't able to play his senior year due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing California high schools to move the 2020 season to the spring. Costelli chose, instead, to enroll early at Utah. Costelli was also a track star in high school, finishing third in the CIF-SS Division II in the 100-meter dash. Costelli joins a quarterback room that includes returning starter Gunnar Watson, redshirt freshman Quayde Hawkins and true freshman Tucker Kilcrease. - Troy Messenger
