A second former Auburn defensive back is transferring to Georgia Tech. Eric Reed Jr., a former four-star prospect, committed to the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night, he announced on Twitter. Reed joins Ahmari Harvey as former Tigers defensive backs to make the move to Georgia Tech this offseason. Harvey transferred after the end of the season and committed to Georgia Tech back in January.

Reed, meanwhile, originally entered the transfer portal in early January before withdrawing his name shortly thereafter. He was never listed on Auburn's spring roster and reentered the portal March 28. Reed, who signed with Auburn in 2020, saw limited playing time during his two years on the Plains. - Birmingham News

Former Miami running back Cody Brown announced via Twitter his decision to commit to UVa. Brown played in 10 games for the Hurricanes this past fall as a freshman and carried the ball 34 times for 139 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 4.1 yards per run, and saw his most extensive action in Miami's blowout win over FCS Central Connecticut State in late September, scoring twice on the ground. He tallied his other touchdown in the Hurricanes' loss to North Carolina in October. A product of Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., Brown was a consensus four-star prospect by recruiting services and racked up 21 total scholarship offers, including ones from Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee. Before signing with Miami, he was previously committed to Tennessee. - Charlottesville Daily Progress

The Wolf Pack quarterback room just got a bit bigger - and, perhaps, a lot more competitive. Nevada officially announced the addition of Oklahoma State transfer Shane Illingworth, a verbal commitment from earlier in the year, on Tuesday. He'll join the team in time for summer camp, which usually has an early August start. In two seasons in mostly a reserve role for the Cowboys, Illingworth completed 69 of his 120 attempts, good for 939 yards and seven touchdowns. His best outing was a 315-yard game in OSU's opening win over Missouri State last season. As a first-time transfer, he will be immediately eligible to play in the fall; he has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

"Excited to have a quality athlete with Division I experience competing for our quarterback position," Nevada coach Ken Wilson said in a news release. "Shane is a fierce competitor with great intelligence who I have known for a long time. "Competition at all positions will make our team better. His presence will certainly help all of the players competing to be our starting QB." Illingworth joins a Nevada roster with an overall shortage of quarterback experience. Nate Cox, who backed up Carson Strong the last two seasons, led the first team during spring camp. He also started Nevada's bowl game loss to Western Michigan in late December that ended the 2021 season. - Reno Gazette Journal

The University of Hawaii football team has secured a commitment from Joey Yellen, a transfer quarterback from Pittsburgh. Yellen was a Class of 2019 four-star recruit coming out of Mission Viejo High School in California. He originally signed with Arizona State and played one game for the Sun Devils, completing 28 of 44 passes for 292 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in a loss against USC on Nov. 9, 2019. Yellen transferred to Pittsburgh following prior to the 2020 season and played four games for the Panthers. Yellen played in one game in 2021 and entered the transfer portal once again following the season. Although Yellen has three seasons if NCAA eligibility remaining, his status for the 2022 season has yet to be defined. - Khon2.com

The University of Hawaii football team's quarterback competition is heating up with the addition of a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh. "I'm very excited," said Joey Yellen, a former four-star prospect, of his commitment to the Rainbow Warriors on Monday. "I'm excited about the staff over there and the team we've got. I feel it's a good opportunity." Yellen was the backup to Kenny Pickett, who was the Pittsburgh Steelers' first-round draft pick last week.

Yellen said there were several factors in deciding to transfer, notably offensive coordinator Mark Whipple's move to Nebraska. Whipple recruited Yellen to Pitt in 2020. "I'm definitely thankful for Pittsburgh, and all the experiences they brought me," Yellen told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. "There are only so many people who can say they played under a first-round draft pick for a couple years. Even though I didn't play, I wouldn't trade the experience there." Yellen joins Washington State transfer Cammon Cooper as UH quarterbacks who began their careers at Pac-12 schools. - Honolulu Advertiser

Former Mississippi State wide receiver Teddy Knox, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021 out of The Woodlands, announced his intention to transfer to SMU on Tuesday. Knox spent one season at Mississippi State and appeared in one game, returning one kickoff for 31 yards. Knox was the No. 7 transfer available, according to 247Sports' rankings. SMU didn't add a wide receiver in the Class of 2022, but it has utilized the transfer portal to fill the departures of Danny Gray, who was selected in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers, and Reggie Roberson Jr., who signed with the Tennessee Titans. - Dallas Morning News

Tennessee sophomore linebacker Aaron Willis, who has survived a coaching transition and a multiweek suspension during his time with the Volunteers, announced Friday on social media that he will be leaving the program. Willis is Tennessee's highest-rated member of a volatile 2021 signing class that contained 17 enrollees but would be down to nine if Willis departs. The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder from Colonial Heights, Virginia, played in eight games last season and recorded his lone tackle during the 60-14 thrashing of South Alabama in late November.

The loss of Willis, the nation's No. 16 linebacker and No. 137 overall prospect in the 2021 signing cycle, would leave Tennessee without its four highest-rated members of that class, with athlete Kaemen Marley, quarterback Kaidon Salter and tight end Julian Nixon having already departed. Nixon entered the portal earlier this week with this Sunday's eligibility deadline for the one-time transfer waiver quickly approaching. - Chattanooga Times Free Press

Less than 24 hours after Kenny Pickett was drafted by the Steelers and four weeks after Davis Beville entered the transfer portal, Pitt lost a third scholarship quarterback. Joey Yellen, who transferred to Pitt from Arizona State in 2020, also entered the portal, according to multiple reports on Friday. Yellen will have three years of eligibility available but might have to sit out a season if he joins a Football Bowl Subdivision team due to the NCAA's transfer rules.

Yellen's decision isn't necessarily a surprise considering where he stacks up in Pitt's quarterback room. USC transfer Kedon Slovis and 2021 backup Nick Patti are competing to replace Pickett. Slovis came to Pitt with pedigree after performing at a high level with the Trojans in 2019 and 2020. Meanwhile, Patti was the next quarterback up and started the Peach Bowl when Pickett opted out this past December. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

It appears as if we will not get the chance to see Kamarro Edmonds play in a UNC football uniform. Earlier this week, Edmonds announced that he will enter the transfer portal. After earning a redshirt during his freshman season, the Havelock, North Carolina native will have four years of eligibility remaining. The announcement is rather surprising, given that the Tar Heels recently wrapped up their set of spring practices. After having what is reported as a good spring camp, it seemed as if Edmonds was set to make an impact in the backfield this season.

However, Edmonds decided to explore his options, as the former four-star prospect should draw plenty of interest from other college programs. His departure leaves a hole in the Tar Heels running back depth chart, but fortunately, the program returns the likes of British Brooks, Caleb Hood and D.J. Jones while also adding two incoming freshman to the mix. The Tar Heels have done well in the transfer portal as of late, as Mack Brown and his staff have earned commitments from Ohio State transfers Lejond Cavazos and Jacolbe Cowan. - Keeping It Heel.com

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi likes to add a quarterback to his roster every year, and he received a verbal commitment for the class of 2023 on Saturday when Kenny Minchey announced his plans to enroll next year. Minchey (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) is a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.com. He threw for 3,280 yards and 32 touchdowns last season for Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn. While approaching his senior season, he has 17 scholarship offers, including from Power 5 schools Michigan State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Minchey's commitment surfaced after Pitt lost quarterback Joey Yellen and Davis Beville to the NCAA transfer portal and Kenny Pickett to the NFL this offseason. The Panthers have only three scholarship quarterbacks on their roster, including Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti at the top of the depth chart and Nate Yarnell, a redshirt freshman from the class of 2021. - The Tribune-Review

Exactly one week after its spring season ended, TCU football has its first post-spring transfer. Freshman linebacker Jayhvion Gipson entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal on Friday night, a source told the Star-Telegram. Gipson didn't register a stat in two games for the Frogs last season. He joined the Frogs as a three-star prospect out of Houston Langham Creek in the 2021 class. TCU has managed to keep the majority of its roster together since going through spring practices. Gipson is the only player who has entered the portal so far. Players must enter their name by Sunday in order to transfer this academic year. The portal will shutdown for three months over the summer before reopening on Aug. 1. - Star Telegram

After two years of waiting, Iowa sophomore running back Leshon Williams received his opportunity in the last game of the Hawkeyes' 2021 season. With regular starter Tyler Goodson opting out of the Citrus Bowl to prepare for the NFL Draft and senior backup Ivory Kelly-Martin battling injury, Williams stepped into a feature role for the first time in his career. Williams only had 10 career carries prior to that. He finished the game with 10 carries for 42 yards. Overall, Iowa rushed for 175 yards and 5.8 yards per carry in their 20-17 loss.

He's expecting a lot more work to come his way in 2022. "I processed (Goodson opting out) as an opportunity," Williams said. "Getting a lot more reps help. There's nothing like being in a game and seeing a blitz full speed. Just me getting into the bowl game and getting a lot more experience is going to help because now I have a game under my belt and I got a feel of the speed of the game and how it goes." Williams is squarely in the mix for Iowa's starting running back competition as spring practice nears a close. He and fellow sophomore Gavin Williams are the top two running backs returning this season with redshirt freshman Deavin Hilson behind them. - Iowa City Press-Citizen

Amari Johnson has had to wait his turn. In a new college football world in which players regularly enter the NCAA transfer portal instead of riding the bench, the Miami native has stayed loyal to UCF. Despite a coaching change halfway through his four years and sitting on the depth chart behind wide receivers such as Gabriel Davis, Jacob Harris and Tre Nixon - all in the NFL now - Johnson never wavered. "That was pretty much the best thing for me," Johnson said. "Just to learn from those guys and be able to take what those guys did on the field, [I] implement it into my style of play." Johnson showed why the wait was worth it during Saturday's spring game when he caught 4 passes for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the first score of the intrasquad scrimmage. "It felt really good," he said. "Going into my senior year, it just felt good to be able to perform at a high standard for the crowd and for my coaches and improve from last spring. Everything felt good." Johnson arrived at UCF in the summer of 2019 and caught a 49-yard touchdown pass in his debut against FAMU. That season he appeared in seven games as a receiver and on special teams. The next year he saw the field in two more games, but only caught 3 passes for 12 yards while mostly playing on special teams. In Gus Malzahn's first year in Orlando, Johnson's role expanded as he became a jack of all trades. - Orlando Sentinel
