Former Tennessee offensive guard James Robinson is moving to South Alabama a Division I transfer. Robinson, originally from Montgomery, has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He played in all 13 games - primarily on special teams - for the Volunteers in 2021 after redshirting as a true freshman. The 6-foot-4, 340-pound Robinson was rated a 3-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. He was a first-team Class 6A All-State pick as a senior at Carver High School in 2019. Robinson is the fourth Power 5 transfer to commit to the Jaguars in the current cycle, joining running backs Omni Wells (Mississippi State) and Marco Lee (Virginia Tech) and safety Marvin Martin (Kansas State). South Alabama is expected to add a half-dozen or so more by the time summer workouts begin in June. - Birmingham News

Just three weeks ago, UNC football player Kamarro Edmonds elected to enter the transfer portal. The announcement was rather surprising, given that the UNC football program had recently wrapped up its set of spring practices. After having what was reported as a good spring camp, it seemed as if Edmonds was set to make an impact in the Tar Heels backfield this season. However, Edmonds decided it was time to move on, and has officially found a new home.

Edmonds announced that he has committed to continue his academic and athletic career at East Carolina University. The former four-star recruit will now look to make his mark in the Pirates backfield for head coach Mike Houston. We don't know exactly why he decided to transfer, and of course, we don't wish to speculate. However, it could have something to do with the Tar Heels running back depth, as it will be tough for all the talented players to see the field as much as they would like to. - Keeping It Heel.com

Jordan Smart was intrigued by the idea of playing for North Texas all the way back to his days as a star wide receiver for Round Rock. Smart took a bit of a detour but will finally get the chance to play for UNT after committing to the Mean Green this week. The 5-foot-11 speedster signed with UT-Permian Basin and spent two years at the Division II school. He entered the transfer portal after a standout season last fall in the hope that he could make the jump to the Football Bowl Subdivision level. "This was the opportunity I've been seeking," Smart said Friday afternoon of committing to UNT. "I'm glad God put it on the table for me." Smart elected to transfer after catching 45 passes for 587 yards and eight touchdowns last season at UTPB. He posted 14 catches for 294 yards in his final two games of the season. That late surge led UNT, Texas State and UNLV as well as a host of schools that compete on the Football Championship Subdivision level to offer Smart a scholarship after he entered the portal. - Denton Record

Auburn commit and Minnesota native Craig McDonald had several options when he entered the transfer portal after a successful season at Iowa State. McDonald fielded offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, Memphis, and Florida State, among others, before choosing to play for Bryan Harsin on the Plains. McDonald had 41 tackles and was tied for the team lead with two interceptions last season after redshirting for the 2020 season at Iowa State. He was a three-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. The 6'2" 190 pound safety has three years of eligibility as a redshirt freshman. He's a physical safety that could fill the void left by Smoke Monday departing to New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. We caught up with McDonald via cellphone to discuss why he chose Auburn and his plans to improve as an athlete. - Birmingham News

Receiver Ma'jon Wright's second tour of duty with Arizona appears to be coming to an end. Wright re-entered the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday, the latest twist in his complicated college career. Wright came to Tucson from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2020. He impressed as a freshman during the pandemic-shortened season, appearing in all five games and catching 15 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown.

Wright then transferred to Middle Tennessee State and enrolled there. He subsequently had a change of heart and returned to Arizona - but was ineligible to play this past season. Wright spent the campaign working on the scout team. He was a regular part of the Wildcats' receiver rotation during spring practice but couldn't crack the starting lineup. Arizona's likely starters are returnee Dorian Singer, transfer Jacob Cowing and freshman Tetairoa McMillan. - Arizona Star News

Auburn football landed its second transfer portal commitment of the past 10 days Saturday, as former Iowa State safety Craig McDonald announced via Twitter he'd be coming to the Plains next season. McDonald spent two seasons with the Cyclones, playing in four games in 2020 and registering a tackle. In 2021, he played in 13 games, logging 41 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup and two interceptions. In a loss to Oklahoma last season, McDonald recorded 10 tackles and an interception, and also had six tackles and a pass breakup against Clemson in the Cheez-it Bowl. Listed a 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, McDonald entered the portal on April 30. Out of high school, the Minneapolis native chose the Cyclones over offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Purdue. - Opelika-Auburn News

Six months after he announced his transfer to Arizona State, linebacker Rodney Groce is on the move again. Groce entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal on Sunday. Groce is a former three-star recruit who hails from Pleasant Grove, Alabama. He ranked as the No. 519 overall prospect and the 35th best linebacker in the 2020 class according to On3 Consensus. Despite this, he failed to make an impression in his first two years, appearing in just one game without recording any stats. This prompted him to enter the portal, and on Dec. 6 he announced that he would join Arizona State. Apparently that didn't work out the way he planned, and he is set to join his third school in as many years. - On3.com

Auburn isn't done adding to the 2022 recruiting class, specifically in the secondary. Iowa State's Craig McDonald became the seventh transfer to join the Tigers. He announced the move on Twitter while visiting the Plains. A former 3-star recruit, McDonald is a redshirt freshman and will have three years of eligibility. He's the sixth defensive back to join the Tigers either through the transfer portal or high school. Starting three games for the Cyclones last season, he was tied for the team lead with a pair of interceptions.

Coming out of Minnehaha (Minn.) Academy, McDonald was the country's 66th-best safety prospect, per 247Sports composite rankings. He redshirted in 2020 after appearing in four games. In 2021, while earning a spot on the All-Big 12 Academic Team, he recorded 41 tackles. "We watched some film and they want me to be even more physical," McDonald told Auburn Undercover's Jason Caldwell. "They are going to put me into even more positions to be successful. I'm really looking forward to that." - Birmingham News

The University of Wyoming landed its second Power Five transfer in the past two weeks Thursday, as former USC wide receiver Chase Locke announced his decision to join the Cowboys. Locke joins Alabama defensive end Keelan Cox, who committed shortly after the spring game April 30, as the Pokes' most recent high-profile additions. Locke did not see the field in his three years at USC, but he enjoyed a successful high school career while playing in the two highest classifications in Texas.

The San Antonio product earned second-team All-District 26-5A honors as a junior in 2017 after catching 52 passes for 659 yards and seven touchdowns at Boerne Champion. He followed that up with first-team All-District 28-6A honors in 2018, as he hauled in 36 catches for 672 yards and eight touchdowns, while helping lead San Antonio O'Connor to an undefeated regular season. - Wyoming Tribune Eagle

There's a lengthy tradition of superb running backs at Parkview High in Lilburn, Ga. Cody Brown was the latest in line, and ninth-year Panthers coach Eric Godfree said Brown possesses a distinct trait that should allow him to succeed at his next stop in college. Earlier this week, Brown announced his decision to transfer from Miami, where he spent his freshman season this past fall, to Virginia. He'll be eligible right away for the Cavaliers, who have a need at the running back position. "He has tremendous balance in his lower half and he does such a great job with it," Godfree said Friday. "He stays square with the balance he has and then as soon as he gets to the next level, he can finish his runs. I think that's what's really unique about him is how many long runs he did have and did finish.

At Parkview, Brown racked up 5,221 career rushing yards and tallied three straight seasons of 1,500 yards on the ground or more to become the next great running back for a prep program that produced Chris Carson, who currently is with the Seattle Seahawks and formerly starred for Oklahoma State, in addition to past Auburn standout Brad Lester as well as Brett Millican, who played at Georgia and in the NFL, too. - Charlottesville Daily Progress
