A second Texas Tech football player accused of racing vehicles during an incident in late June was arrested Monday. SaRodorick Thompson, a 20-year-old running back from Irving, was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center just before 2 p.m. Monday, according to jail records. After posting a 10% personal bond at $2,500, Thompson bailed out later in the afternoon. Records indicate he faces a Class B misdemeanor charge of racing stemming from a June 27 racing incident in which he's accused of fleeing the scene while a fellow teammate was arrested. Thompson was the Red Raiders' leading rusher last season and again in the 2020 season opener.

Tech announced later Monday that he can play in Saturday's Big 12 opener against Texas. Texas Tech running back SaRodorick Thompson was the Red Raiders' leading rusher last season. (Ray Carlin/USA Today) "SaRodorick Thompson was notified late last week that there had been a misdemeanor warrant issued in his name," the statement said. "Thompson and his lawyer are currently cooperating with the Lubbock Police Department and have done so since the incident in late June. Texas Tech Athletics will handle the matter consistent with its student-athlete discipline policy and any discipline will be handled internally. Thompson is expected to play in Saturday's Big 12 opener versus Texas." - Austin American Statesman

Texas Tech announced the waiver Wednesday, four days after its season-opening win over Houston Baptist. Wilson will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at the Big 12 school. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Wilson played 12 games as a redshirt freshman for Texas A&M last season, when he had 12 tackles.   09/15/20 - Colin SchoolerrSr/2022, Texas Tech, 6-0, 229 (DS#40 OLB) + More +

Colin Schooler's much-anticipated debut with Texas Tech didn't happen Saturday night, and DaMarcus Fields didn't add to his 32 career starts. The transfer linebacker from Arizona and the three-year starting cornerback were among more than a dozen Red Raiders who didn't suit up for the season opener against Houston Baptist. Tech issued a policy on Friday saying it would not answer questions about players who were deemed "unavailable" for games this season. However, Tech coach Matt Wells said Monday that, of 12 active COVID-19 cases among players that the athletic department announced on Sept. 2, only three had returned to action. Tech also said it will update its COVID-19 numbers weekly on Mondays. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

  09/11/20 - Colin SchoolerrSr/2022, Texas Tech, 6-0, 229 (DS#40 OLB) + More +

As a Pac-12 linebacker for the past three years, Colin Schooler got used to making all sorts of split-second decisions: calls, checks, angles to take on opposing skill-position players. Perhaps no single one of those carried the gravity of the quick decision he had to make over the past month. When the Pac-12 postponed fall sports on Aug. 11 as a precaution for COVID-19, the former Arizona star decided not to sit tight. But then he had to choose a new home. He had his name in the NCAA transfer portal by Aug. 21 and announced on Aug. 30 he was joining Texas Tech as a graduate transfer. "The really tough part about it is Arizona did nothing wrong," Schooler said Tuesday. "It was a conference choice for them to not play, and I have no bad blood over there. I still wish everybody the best at Arizona. "But personally I couldn't sit back and watch the rest of the teams that decided to not opt out of the season play. I feel like when it's fall time, it's football time and that's what my family and I chose to do."

Few, if any, transfers into the Texas Tech program have been more heralded. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior achieved some level of all-Pac-12 recognition each of his first three years after posting single-season tackle totals of 95, 119 and 98 - and tackles for loss totals of 13 1/2, 21 1/2 and 11. He's impressed his new coaches and teammates by being a quick study. "At Arizona, we ran kind of the same scheme," Schooler said. "But in terms of football, defense is defense no matter where you are. It's just a matter of getting down the terminology and calls and certain checks like that. "I've had a pretty smooth transition, getting extra time with coach Cos (linebackers coach Kevin Cosgrove) and just being in the film room a lot." - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

  09/05/20 - Baylor CupprSr/2024, Texas Tech, 6-6, 243 (DS#27 TE) + More +

Texas A&M redshirt freshman tight end Baylor Cupp dislocated his shoulder and tore his labrum at practice, his mother confirmed via social media Thursday afternoon. "He had surgery this morning and it went good," Shyrell Hebert Cupp said on Facebook. "Prayers appreciated for complete healing." The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Brock missed last season after breaking an ankle in the first scrimmage of fall camp. Fisher had praised Cupp after the first week of drills. "His ankle has had no problems, and if it did, he wouldn't tell you," Fisher said. "That is one tough son-of-gun now. He's competitive. He's got great heart. I have a ton of respect for how he goes about his game." Cupp was projected to be the starter last season. He was replaced by Jalen Wydermyer, who had 32 catches for 447 yards and six touchdown and made the All-Southeastern Conference freshman team. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  09/02/20 - Colin SchoolerrSr/2022, Texas Tech, 6-0, 229 (DS#40 OLB) + More +

The Arizona pipeline to the Big 12 expanded further Sunday, when former Wildcats linebacker Colin Schooler announced his commitment to Texas Tech. Schooler became the fourth UA player to transfer to a Big 12 school this year. He joined his brother, Brenden Schooler (Texas); fellow linebacker Tony Fields II (West Virginia); and safety Scottie Young Jr. (West Virginia). The Schooler brothers entered the NCAA transfer portal after the Pac-12 announced it was postponing the fall football season because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Big 12 is pushing forward with plans to play. Texas Tech is slated to open its season Sept. 12 against Houston Baptist. In the original, pre-pandemic schedule, the Red Raiders were slated to host the Wildcats on Sept. 19. Arizona defeated Texas Tech 28-14 in Tucson last year. Colin Schooler appeared in 37 consecutive games for the UA over the past three seasons, including 33 straight starts. He compiled 312 tackles, including 46 for losses, plus 11 passes defensed, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. - Arizona Star News

Former Arizona linebacker Colin Schooler will be eligible to play immediately this fall at Texas Tech after leaving the Pac-12 team for which he started the past three seasons. The Pac-12 has opted against playing football this fall because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Big 12 plans to play a reduced 10-game schedule that starts Sept. 12. Coach Matt Wells said Sunday that Schooler, a graduate transfer, joined the Red Raiders last week. Schooler had 318 tackles in 37 games at Arizona, and goes into his final season with 46 tackles for loss, the most among any active FBS player.   08/26/20 - Dimitri MoorerSr/2023, Texas Tech, 6-2, 223 (DS#92 ILB) + More +

Vanderbilt junior linebacker Dimitri Moore has opted back into the 2020 season after initially opting out over COVID-19 concerns at the beginning of preseason practice. Moore is the team's leading tackler, an NFL Draft prospect and a Butkus Award candidate. His return means Vanderbilt will bring back all 11 defensive starters from last season if no other players opt out. On Instagram Tuesday, Moore said he opted out after his grandfather's death from COVID-19, but time and more information changed his mind.

"After my grandfather's passing from COVID-19, I made a decision to opt out of the upcoming football season," Moore posted on Instagram. "Since then, I have done more research and had many conversations with doctors and medical personnel. I look forward to returning to the program and playing this season, and I have made this decision on my own. "As a team, we are responsible for our actions and hold each other accountable within our environment. I have trust and confidence in Vanderbilt's testing abilities and safety protocols." Vanderbilt preseason practice has been paused since Friday after multiple players tested positive for COVID-19, so Moore missed only four practices. Vanderbilt has not announced when it will return to practice. Media availability with coaches and players via Zoom calls also have been postponed. - Tennessean

  08/25/20 - Dimitri MoorerSr/2023, Texas Tech, 6-2, 223 (DS#92 ILB) + More +

Vanderbilt is getting its top tackler back after Dimitri Moore changed his mind about opting out of this season. Moore posted on Instagram on Tuesday that he decided to opt out of the upcoming season after his grandfather died of COVID-19. The senior from Cedar Hill, Texas, wrote that he has done more research and talked with doctors and medical personnel since that decision. Moore says he is returning to the Vanderbilt football program, a decision he made on his own. The linebacker says he trusts and has confidence in Vanderbilt's testing abilities and safety protocols. Vanderbilt canceled football practice last Friday and has yet to return after what the university called “a small number” of positive COVID-19 test results in the program. The football players who tested positive were put in isolation. - AP College Football

  08/25/20 - Tyree WilsonrSr/2023, Texas Tech, 6-6, 271 (DS#2 DE) + More +

Texas Tech coach Matt Wells continues to beef up his roster with transfers. On Monday, Tech announced the addition of Tyree Wilson, a former blue-chip defensive end who made his college debut last season with Texas A&M. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound sophomore from New London West Rusk played in 12 games last season for the Aggies as a redshirt freshman. He was credited with 12 tackles, including three tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks. Wilson had his name put into the transfer portal in February. Tech will apply for an NCAA waiver for immediate eligibility on Wilson's behalf. He began practicing with the team on Friday. Unlike in recent years when early portions of most preseason workouts were open, the Red Raiders' practices are closed this year as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal
