  Draft Scout by Conference

The Texas Tech football team said goodbye after last season to the productive linebacker tandem of Colin Schooler and Riko Jeffers, as well as depth players Jacob Morgenstern and Brandon Bouyer-Randle. That's a lot of hits for one position group in a single off-season, but nothing gets Joey McGuire down these days, if ever. The new Red Raiders coach expresses confidence at rolling into the 2022 season with Krishon Merriweather and Dimitri Moore as starting linebackers and Jacob Rodriguez and Kosi Eldridge backing them up. "You've got four guys right now that I feel really good about being in the game," McGuire said last week. McGuire's depth chart coming out of spring has Merriweather backed by Rodriguez at middle linebacker and Moore backed by Eldridge at weak-side linebacker.

Merriweather has been part of the Tech linebacker mix for the past two years, getting credit for 127 tackles during that time. Eldridge, a versatile linebacker-safety type, has played in 30 games over the past three seasons, mostly as a backup and sub-package player. Moore and Rodriguez both transferred into the program in January, Moore from Missouri State and Rodriguez from Virginia. Because Merriweather and Eldridge are super seniors in their last year of eligibility and known quantities, the ceiling for the group depends largely on what the Red Raiders get from Moore and Rodriguez. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal
