Syracuse football has only one place to go from its preseason ACC Atlantic Division ranking: up. For the second straight year, the Orange were voted to finish last in their division in the ACC Preseason Poll. This is the last season the conference will play under divisions as it moves to a 3-5-5 scheduling model in 2023. The All-ACC preseason team is voted upon by media who attend ACC Kickoff. There were 164 total voters. Clemson was picked to win the Atlantic and the ACC, while Miami was voted to win the Coastal Division.

This is the fifth consecutive year Clemson has been predicted to finish atop its division even though it was not No. 1 at the end of the 2021 season. Last year, the Orange finished at the bottom of the division with a 5-7 overall record. The program earned just two conference wins against Virginia Tech and Boston College in consecutive weeks. However, three of SU's losses were by three points. Syracuse returns the majority of its 2021 starters, including running back Sean Tucker, quarterback Garrett Shrader, linebacker Mikel Jones and cornerback Garrett Williams. - The Post-Standard

Fans of Sean Tucker will be pleased by Syracuse football's most recent announcement. The program officially launched Tucker's 2022 Heisman Trophy campaign Monday, complete with a hashtag and microsite. The hashtag, "#PL34SED," is a play on Tucker's frequent use of the word when evaluating his performances via Twitter postgame. He even used it in his commitment announcement back in 2020. The website features videos and stories to get to know Tucker better, a link to his official merchandise, his highlights and stats, a list of his awards and the official campaign hype video.

The Heisman Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football. It is named for American football player, coach and sportswriter John W. Heisman. Syracuse legend Ernie Davis is the program's only player to ever win the Heisman Trophy. He became the first African-American recipient of the award when he won it in 1961 following a standout season. Davis rushed for 823 yards and 15 touchdowns, breaking multiple program records. Two seasons prior, he'd helped lead SU to its lone national title. Orange quarterback Don McPherson was a runner-up for the trophy in 1987, losing to Notre Dame wide receiver Tim Brown. - The Post-Standard

Forty-five days stand between Louisville football and its season opener against Syracuse, but a member of the Orange's defense has already dished out some some bulletin-board material for the Cardinals to work with. Taking the stage Wednesday at the Atlantic Coast Conference's Kickoff event in Charlotte, North Carolina, Syracuse senior linebacker Mikel Jones was asked for his outlook on U of L's offense heading into Week 1 with dual-threat quarterback Malik Cunningham under center.

"We see it as a good opportunity. We don't think it's going to be a tough challenge," said Jones, who recorded 110 total tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss as a junior. "We're excited to play those guys the first week." It's tough talk from Jones as Louisville will look to stretch its winning streak over Syracuse to four in a row when the two teams kick off at 8 p.m. Sept. 3 inside JMA Wireless Dome in upstate New York. The Cardinals boast a 13-7 overall record against the Orange and are coming off a 41-3 victory against coach Dino Babers' team on Nov. 13, 2021. - Courier Journal

Sean Tucker was a hot topic during Syracuse football's appearances at ACC Kickoff, despite not being in attendance. The running back was not one of SU's attendees because the program chose to bring two of its team captains - linebacker Mikel Jones and offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron - and its starting quarterback, Garrett Shrader, a team spokesman told Syracuse.com. All 14 ACC programs brought their QBs to the event. Orange football coach Dino Babers called Tucker "relentless" before going on to explain that Tucker is working out "all the time," including over the 2021 Christmas break.

Even while running for the SU track team this spring, Tucker never missed a football practice. "Without hesitation I'll tell everybody in the room that I believe he is better," Babers said. "I'm saying that being modest that he is not the same. He is actually better than last year. I'm really excited to see what he can do in 2022." Jones also had high praise for his teammate and how he helps makes Syracuse's defense better. "If you come to practice thinking you can get through with half effort, (Tucker's) gonna make you lace up your cleats real fast and get locked in," Jones said. "Just doing that every day, day-in, day-out knowing we're not gonna see another running back like him all season, honestly, it makes us better every day." - The Post-Standard

Alabama football updated its roster ahead of SEC Media Days in Atlanta, and backup defensive lineman Braylen Ingraham was no longer on it. He didn't play in 2021 after he saw action in two games for the Crimson Tide during the 2020 season. He was a four-star prospect, per the 247Sports Composite, out of St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the 2019 class. The other news out of the updated roster are the numbers for the transfers who had not been listed before such as receiver Tyler Harrell from Louisville, who will again wear No. 8, and offensive tackle Tyler Steen from Vanderbilt, who will also wear the same number he wore before: No. 54. Steen gets No. 54 from freshman offensive lineman Tyler Booker, who will switch to No. 52. - Montgomery Advertiser

On Wednesday, the ACC revealed the list of representatives attending the conference's football preseason media event next week. Four representatives from each of the conference's 14 programs will convene in Charlotte, North Carolina, next week for the 2022 ACC Kickoff. Syracuse football is bringing coach Dino Babers, offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron, linebacker Mikel Jones and quarterback Garrett Shrader.

The event will be the first time media has the opportunity to speak with Babers about the conference's new 3-5-5 scheduling model and conference realignment rumors. Bergeron is entering his fourth season with the team having made 28 consecutive starts at offensive tackle. The last 20 of those have been at left tackle, which the senior switched to midway through the 2020 season due to injuries on the offensive line. He was an All-ACC honorable mention last year and won Syracuse's Bill Maxwell Award, given to the most improved offensive player. - The Post-Standard

Syracuse running back Sean Tucker has made another preseason All-America team. The Walter Camp Football Foundation released its 2022 Preseason All-America teams Monday. Tucker was named to the second team. He was also named to the second team at the end of the season in 2021. Tucker was already named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-American third team. He was also featured on the publication's All-ACC first team and was No. 6 among 2023 draft-eligible FBS running backs. ESPN's Mel Kiper also has Tucker in his 2023 draft rankings. In 2021, Tucker set a single-season rushing record for Syracuse football, logging 1,496 yards on 246 attempts. His season-high for a single game was 207 against Boston College.   Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack knows the 2022 Orange football schedule is daunting. As of Friday, he's still confident in coach Dino Babers to lead the program through it. "Dino's not on the hot seat," Wildhack said, and then repeated, during a media availability previewing the upcoming athletic year. "I'm really pleased with what we've done in the past six months, and I think it is a table setter for what we can accomplish in 2022 and beyond." The statement came hours after the announcement that the ACC is switching to a 3-5-5 scheduling model for football starting in 2023.

The new format is expected to ease the schedules of programs like Syracuse, which has had to face ACC top-dog Clemson every year since it joined the conference. "I think it's really good for the conference. I think it's really good for the brand. We get to play each other more frequently," Wildhack said. "I think that's good for ACC football...And I think it's good for Syracuse." But Babers, now in his seventh year with the program, has produced just one winning season for the Orange. Syracuse went 10-3 in 2018, then two years later - albeit during the altered COVID-19 season - went 1-10. That year, Babers was Syracuse University's highest-paid employee, according to recent Syracuse.com reporting. - The Post-Standard
