  07/23/22 - *Sean TuckerrSo/2023, Syracuse, 5-09, 207 (DS#23 RB) + More +

Sean Tucker was a hot topic during Syracuse football's appearances at ACC Kickoff, despite not being in attendance. The running back was not one of SU's attendees because the program chose to bring two of its team captains - linebacker Mikel Jones and offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron - and its starting quarterback, Garrett Shrader, a team spokesman told Syracuse.com. All 14 ACC programs brought their QBs to the event. Orange football coach Dino Babers called Tucker "relentless" before going on to explain that Tucker is working out "all the time," including over the 2021 Christmas break.

Even while running for the SU track team this spring, Tucker never missed a football practice. "Without hesitation I'll tell everybody in the room that I believe he is better," Babers said. "I'm saying that being modest that he is not the same. He is actually better than last year. I'm really excited to see what he can do in 2022." Jones also had high praise for his teammate and how he helps makes Syracuse's defense better. "If you come to practice thinking you can get through with half effort, (Tucker's) gonna make you lace up your cleats real fast and get locked in," Jones said. "Just doing that every day, day-in, day-out knowing we're not gonna see another running back like him all season, honestly, it makes us better every day." - The Post-Standard

  07/19/22 - Braylen IngrahamrSr/2025, Syracuse, 6-4, 314 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Alabama football updated its roster ahead of SEC Media Days in Atlanta, and backup defensive lineman Braylen Ingraham was no longer on it. He didn't play in 2021 after he saw action in two games for the Crimson Tide during the 2020 season. He was a four-star prospect, per the 247Sports Composite, out of St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the 2019 class. The other news out of the updated roster are the numbers for the transfers who had not been listed before such as receiver Tyler Harrell from Louisville, who will again wear No. 8, and offensive tackle Tyler Steen from Vanderbilt, who will also wear the same number he wore before: No. 54. Steen gets No. 54 from freshman offensive lineman Tyler Booker, who will switch to No. 52. - Montgomery Advertiser

  07/18/22 - Matthew BergeronrJr/2023, Syracuse, 6-5, 318 (DS#4 OT) + More +

On Wednesday, the ACC revealed the list of representatives attending the conference's football preseason media event next week. Four representatives from each of the conference's 14 programs will convene in Charlotte, North Carolina, next week for the 2022 ACC Kickoff. Syracuse football is bringing coach Dino Babers, offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron, linebacker Mikel Jones and quarterback Garrett Shrader.

The event will be the first time media has the opportunity to speak with Babers about the conference's new 3-5-5 scheduling model and conference realignment rumors. Bergeron is entering his fourth season with the team having made 28 consecutive starts at offensive tackle. The last 20 of those have been at left tackle, which the senior switched to midway through the 2020 season due to injuries on the offensive line. He was an All-ACC honorable mention last year and won Syracuse's Bill Maxwell Award, given to the most improved offensive player. - The Post-Standard

  06/30/22 - *Sean TuckerrSo/2023, Syracuse, 5-09, 207 (DS#23 RB) + More +

Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack knows the 2022 Orange football schedule is daunting. As of Friday, he's still confident in coach Dino Babers to lead the program through it. "Dino's not on the hot seat," Wildhack said, and then repeated, during a media availability previewing the upcoming athletic year. "I'm really pleased with what we've done in the past six months, and I think it is a table setter for what we can accomplish in 2022 and beyond." The statement came hours after the announcement that the ACC is switching to a 3-5-5 scheduling model for football starting in 2023.

The new format is expected to ease the schedules of programs like Syracuse, which has had to face ACC top-dog Clemson every year since it joined the conference. "I think it's really good for the conference. I think it's really good for the brand. We get to play each other more frequently," Wildhack said. "I think that's good for ACC football...And I think it's good for Syracuse." But Babers, now in his seventh year with the program, has produced just one winning season for the Orange. Syracuse went 10-3 in 2018, then two years later - albeit during the altered COVID-19 season - went 1-10. That year, Babers was Syracuse University's highest-paid employee, according to recent Syracuse.com reporting. - The Post-Standard

  06/30/22 - Matthew BergeronrJr/2023, Syracuse, 6-5, 318 (DS#4 OT) + More +

Even under new scheduling, Syracuse football will face one of the ACC's historic powerhouses each season. The conference on Tuesday announced its shift to a 3-5-5 scheduling model starting in 2023. The model eliminates the Atlantic and Coastal divisions, instead guaranteeing that programs face three opponents annually and the other 10 programs twice every four years. That means within a player's tenure they'll have the chance to face each ACC school at home and away. Syracuse landed Boston College, Pittsburgh and Florida State as its three permanent matchups.

Boston College and Pitt were almost guarantees for the Orange. Both are regional opponents who Syracuse already faces each year - Pitt is the Orange's divisional crossover - and athletic director John Wildhack hinted at Syracuse continuing to face both back in May. Syracuse is 5-4 against Boston College since entering the ACC. The Orange beat Jeff Hafley's team 21-6 last season but lost a close one in 2020. SU has found less success against Pitt while in the same conference. It's lost all but one matchup, though seven of those eight losses have been by two or fewer touchdowns. - The Post-Standard

  06/10/22 - Malik MatthewrFr/2026, Syracuse, 6-3, 210 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Malik Matthew, a three-star linebacker from the class of 2021, has decided to leave Syracuse football and is entering the transfer portal. Though Matthew has yet to make an official announcement and the team did not confirm his departure, his Twitter bio reads "Transfer Outside Linebacker CO '25." The news of Matthew's transfer was reported earlier by 247Sports and Sports Illustrated.

Matthew redshirted his freshman season with the Orange last fall and did not appear in any games. Syracuse returns its three starting linebackers from 2021 - Mikel Jones, Marlowe Wax and Stefon Thompson - for the upcoming season. At the time of his commitment to Syracuse, Matthew said he chose the Orange because he "felt like the relationships (with the coaching staff) were genuine." A top-rated linebacker in New York according to 247Sports, Matthew had offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Kent State and Rutgers while in high school. He was also considered the No. 4 prospect in the state. - The Post-Standard

After no Syracuse football players were taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, Orange fans can place their hope in running back Sean Tucker (and cornerback Garrett Williams) for 2023. Both players were ranked within their position groups in ESPN's Mel Kiper's 2023 NFL Draft rankings released Tuesday. Tucker, who broke Syracuse's single-season rushing record with 1,496 yards in 2021, came in at No. 8 among running backs. The All-American is the only ACC player at his position in the Top 10. He finished tied for sixth in rushing yards and fourth in rushing yards per game in the FBS. - Post-Standard

  05/20/22 - Josh BlackrSr/2022, Syracuse, 6-3, 284 (DS#86 DT) + More +

Syracuse defensive lineman Josh Black has signed with the New Orleans Saints after attending the team's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, earning a spot on the 90-man roster ahead of training camp later this summer. Black and his agency posted the news on social media Tuesday. Terms of the agreement, including guaranteed money, weren't released. Black becomes the third rookie SU defensive lineman to sign with an NFL team. McKinley Williams and Kingsley Jonathan signed with the Colts and Bills, respectively, immediately after going unselected during the NFL draft. Black wasn't offered a contract after the draft. To earn a contract, he attended rookie minicamp with the Chicago Bears earlier this month before trying out for the Saints' roster this past weekend. - Syracuse.com

  05/07/22 - DMarcus AdamsrSr/2024, Syracuse, 5-11, 180 (DS#191 WR) + More +

Syracuse grabbed former Florida Atlantic University wide receiver D'Marcus Adams out of the portal on Friday. This will be Adams' second transfer after originally signing with Florida State in 2018. Adams will come to Syracuse as a graduate transfer and be eligible to play in the fall. Adams is a former high school All-American and track star from Mainland High School in Florida. He also ran track at Florida State. He first committed to Florida State under former coach Jimbo Fisher, then signed with the Seminoles after Fisher left for Texas A&M and Willie Taggart got the job.

Adams is a burner. He reportedly ran a 4.37 40 at the Jimbo Fisher Camp in 2017, around the time he committed. He was credited with 26 receptions for 592 yards, an average of 22.8 yards per reception, with three touchdowns as a senior in high school. His college career has yet to take off to that degree. He has three catches in three seasons after taking a redshirt at FSU in 2018. He left that program after not seeing the field in 2019. Adams has also been utilized as a return specialist throughout his career. - The Post-Standard
