Three South Carolina seniors with eligibility remaining aren't expected back in 2023. Head coach Shane Beamer told reporters on Saturday he doesn't anticipate receiver/tight end Chad Terrell or offensive linemen Hank Manos and Wyatt Campbell will return for another season, despite having varying amounts of eligibility available.

All three walked during senior day festivities on Nov. 19 prior to the win over Tennessee. "They're not involved in our workouts right now," Beamer said. "But great young men and want to certainly wish them well and (thank them) for everything they did for Gamecock football, as well." Terrell, a high-three-star recruit in the 2017 class, battled injuries and position changes throughout his Gamecocks career. The Mississippi product tore an ACL three times over five-plus years in Columbia - once in 2018, again in 2020 and finally during fall camp in 2022. Despite that, he appeared in 27 contests, working at both tight end and receiver. He recorded seven career receptions for 76 yards. Manos and Campbell both worked mostly in reserve roles along the offensive line. - Rock Hill Herald

It's a tradition unlike any other. Auburn announced the date for its 2023 A-Day spring game, and unsurprisingly, it coincides with the Saturday of the Masters Tournament. That has often been the case over the years, including last year, and it will again be the case this spring as the Tigers hold their annual spring game on April 8 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This year's A-Day game will mark the culmination of the Tigers' first spring under new head coach Hugh Freeze, who was hired in late November and tasked with resurrecting a program that fell on hard time during a less-than-two-year tenure under Bryan Harsin.

Freeze retooled the coaching staff, retaining only Cadillac Williams and Zac Etheridge as assistants, and has overhauled the roster with 17 incoming freshmen and a transfer haul featuring a dozen more players; the Tigers' recruiting class ranks 18th nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite team rankings, while its transfer class ranks fourth. Auburn will be allotted 15 practices during the spring, and while an official start date has yet to be announced, the Tigers are likely to return to the field in early March. It will all lead to A-Day on April 8, which typically includes a full, split-squad scrimmage inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. - Birmingham News

The show goes on. Sandwiched between 2022 highlights and a clip out of Martin Scorsese's "Wolf of Wall Street," Spencer Rattler announced his return to South Carolina via a social media video on Tuesday evening. It didn't send quite the same shockwaves that his initial commitment to USC one year ago elicited, but the ramifications are just as massive. Rattler's 2022 season had its ups and downs. He threw five picks in his first three games. His final 18-12 touchdown-to-interception ratio leaves something to be desired.

Still, there were moments of "wow" that reminded everyone why he was such a massive get in December 2021. The November wins over No. 5 Tennessee and No. 8 Clemson will live on in South Carolina lore. Rattler's magician-like performances in those contest ensured that he'll never have to buy another drink in Columbia. He finished those two wins throwing for a combined 792 yards and eight touchdowns. He connected on 72% of his throws. - Rock Hill Herald

Wide receiver Eddie Lewis, who led the Memphis Tigers in receiving yards (615) and finished tied for the team lead in touchdown catches (7), has entered the transfer portal, an athletics department official confirmed. It means Memphis will likely have to replace its top four receivers from the 2022 campaign after tight end Caden Prieskorn and wide receiver Javon Ivory entered their names into the portal soon after the Tigers' win in the First Responder Bowl. Wide receiver Gabe Rogers is also gone since he ran out of eligibility. Prieskorn subsequently committed to Ole Miss earlier this week. - Memphis Commerical Appeal

Another former Gamecock has found a home in Tallahassee. Defensive end Gilber Edmond announced his commitment to Florida State on Tuesday over reported interest from LSU. Edmond was thrust into starting duties in the wake of Jordan Strachan's season-ending injury Week 2 at Arkansas. The Florida native finished the year with 39 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and two sacks.

A late-bloomer coming out of high school, Edmond signed with South Carolina on signing day in 2020 having played receiver for the bulk of his prep career before transitioning to defense. Edmond is also the fifth ex-South Carolina player in recent memory to land with the Seminoles. - Rock Hill Herald

Spencer Rattler is coming back to South Carolina. The Gamecocks quarterback posted his return on social medial Tuesday night. The video showed Rattler's highlights this season and ended with the words, "He's Back." Rattler's future had been among the biggest offseason questions for South Carolina, which finished 8-5 this past season and ended the year No. 23 in the final AP Top 25 rankings.

Rattler's NFL stock rose at the end of the season as he led South Carolina to consecutive wins over No. 5 Tennessee, 63-38, and No. 8 Clemson, 31-30, a week later. Rattler passed for 3,026 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this past year. More than a third of his passing yards came in the final three games. After a 45-38 loss at the Gator Bowl to Notre Dame, Rattler told media he'd take some time before deciding his future. - AP College Football

Christian Beal-Smith, the former East Forsyth star who spent four seasons at Wake Forest before transferring to South Carolina, announced on Friday that he is forgoing his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft. "After much prayer and thoughtful consideration with my family, I would like to announce that I will be declaring for the 2023 Draft in order to pursue a lifelong dream of playing in the NFL," Beal-Smith wrote on his Instagram page.

Beal-Smith's addition at South Carolina one year ago continued a run of offseason luck for the Gamecocks and Coach Shane Beamer. Former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler and tight end Austin Stogner joined the program last month and helped South Carolina get to an 8-4 regular-season record before its 45-38 loss to Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl. In four seasons at Wake Forest, Beal-Smith rushed for 1,871 yards and 14 touchdowns. His best season was in 2020, when he ran for 732 yards and five touchdowns. He ran for 604 yards in 2021 and scored seven touchdowns. Beal-Smith added 21 receptions for 128 yards, but didn't catch a scoring pass. - Winston Salem Journal

South Carolina cornerback Darius Rush is turning pro. Rush announced on Thursday via Twitter he intends to enter the NFL Draft following five years in Columbia. He won't play in the Gamecocks' bowl game against Notre Dame. "The last five years at South Carolina have been incredible," he said in a video. "It's been full of memories that will last forever and I'll cherish forever. "Since I was a kid I always dreamt of running out of that tunnel at Williams-Brice Stadium and that's what I did here. Forever grateful for all the memories I have in this stadium with the fan base, teammates (and) coaches."

The former CE Murray standout evolved into one of the Gamecocks' most productive players in the secondary over the last two years after arriving at South Carolina as a receiver. Rush, rated a three-star prospect in the class of 2018, started at cornerback opposite projected first round pick Cam Smith the past two years. He finished the 2022 campaign with 38 tackles, nine passes defended, two interceptions and one sack. Rush accepted an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl, which will feature some of the top prospects for this year's NFL Draft. - Rock Hill Herald

Dowell Loggains has the first priority of the job at South Carolina on lock: quarterback Spencer Rattler. "We've got to do a great job recruiting him back," Loggains said during his introductory press conference on Wednesday. "I told someone, 'He's the biggest recruit since my wife." Whether Rattler ever plays for Loggains in Columbia is up in the air. After coming on strong in wins over No. 5 Tennessee and No. 8 Clemson, the ex-Oklahoma signal-caller is currently weighing a return to college against leaving early for the NFL Draft. Rattler had ample hype around him heading into the season. He'd lit the Big 12 on fire his first full year as a starter at OU before being benched in 2021 in favor of future Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. That led to a transfer to South Carolina, where Rattler became one of the most high-profile imports in program history.

This year ebbed and flowed in Marcus Satterfield's offense. Rattler threw seven interceptions in his first five games, struggling to find a rhythm as the Gamecocks offense tripped over itself week after week. But as the year progressed, he found a groove. He torched Tennessee for 438 yards and six touchdowns. He followed that up with 360 yards and two scores passing and one rushing in the victory over Clemson to close the regular season. "I think that those last two games - and I haven't really had a chance to dive in and talk to Spencer about this - but he played free," Loggains said. "For whatever reason, he got to the point where he looked very confident. It didn't feel that way all year. I think that's probably what created some inconsistency." Loggains, who spent the bulk of his time in the NFL working with quarterbacks, will also handle those duties in Columbia. - Rock Hill Herald

Arkansas tight end Trey Knox has entered the NCAA transfer portal. The news was first reported by The Athletic's Max Olson. Knox, a senior from Murfreesboro, Tenn., intends to find a new program following four seasons with the Razorbacks. He arrived at Arkansas ahead of the 2019 season as a heralded 4-star wide receiver. In his first season with the Razorbacks, Knox caught 21 passes for for 299 yards and 2 touchdowns in the opening four games. He added 7 receptions for 86 yards and 1 score in his final 7 games played as he battled a hip injury.

The following season, Knox's contributions were scarce, finishing with 7 catches for 70 yards. Early in 2021, Arkansas transitioned Knox to tight end, where he contributed 46 grabs for 437 yards and 6 touchdowns the last 2 years. He finished the 2022 regular season third on the team with 296 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on 26 catches. Knox had a pair of two-touchdown games this fall against Cincinnati and Liberty. With Knox's intent to transfer, the Razorbacks will be without three of their top four pass catchers for the Liberty Bowl against Kansas on Dec. 28. In late November, leading receiver Jadon Haselwood declared for the upcoming NFL Draft, and Ketron Jackson entered the transfer portal last week. - Northwest Arkansas Times
