Anthony Rose, South Carolina, Player News

Coach Shane Beamer announced on Feb. 3 that freshmen Monteque Rhames and Cameron Upshaw, plus redshirt freshman Anthony Rose, were suspended. The three were allegedly caught with a rifle in their dorm suite. Rhames, the only player arrested and charged with a crime, has a court date on March 31. All three were removed from the dorm, suspended from school and are barred from campus due to violating the university's rule on weapons.

Details on what exactly happened are not clear. Richland County officials have supplied only a heavily redacted incident report. The three players are not listed on the online roster. Rhames has to get his legal process handled, while all have to face a school judiciary board. There is no word on when the matter may be presented to the judiciary panel and the status of the three players is not expected to change anytime soon. - The Post and Courier

South Carolina football players Monteque Rhames, Anthony Rose and Cameron Upshaw have been suspended from the team, coach Shane Beamer announced on Friday. "Our student-athletes know what is expected of them," Beamer said in a statement. "They know that both the university and the football program will hold them accountable for their actions and decisions." No reason for the suspensions was given in the statement. But a search of online court logs revealed that Rhames, 18, of Sumter, was detained at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia on Friday afternoon on charges of carrying weapons on school property and obstructing justice.

Online records say Rhames was booked at midnight Feb. 3. There is no record of arrests for Rose and Upshaw. Rhames was out of jail by Friday evening after posting a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. An incident report log from the university's police department revealed that USC officers were dispatched to 650 Lincoln on campus on the evening of Jan. 25 for an undisclosed housing complaint. That address is where all freshmen USC athletes are required to live. Rose, Rhames and an unidentified juvenile are listed as suspects in what the report called a "weapon law violation" and listing a rifle as the weapon. No other details were released. - The Post and Courier
