  10/23/21 - Wiley GreenrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 211 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Wiley Green threw three touchdown passes and Rice held off UAB 30-24 on Saturday in a key Conference USA matchup. It was the fifth straight win for Rice (3-4, 2-1) over UAB (5-3, 3-1), which entered unbeaten in the conference and tied with UTSA and UTEP atop the West Division standings. Matt Quinn's 33-yard field goal for UAB capped the scoring with 3:23 remaining. The Blazers forced a three-and-out and then made it near midfield on the ensuing series. But an unsportsmanlike penalty was followed two plays later with an incomplete pass on fourth-and-23 to end the game.

Green threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to August Pitre III late in the second quarter and a 1-yarder to Jaeger Bull midway through the third that stretched the Owls' lead to 27-14. Green also hit Bull on a short scoring throw in the first quarter. Green was 17-of-22 passing for 205 yards. Pitre made six catches for 108 yards. Dylan Hopkins threw for 318 yards and a touchdown and interception for the Blazers. DeWayne McBride ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns. The Owls have won four of the five meetings in Birmingham. - Rice/AP College Football

  10/03/21 - Jake ConstantinerSr/2022, Rice, 6-1, 205 (DS#56 QB) + More +

Jake Constantine threw for two scores and Rice's defense snared four interceptions, and the Owls never trailed in a 24-19 win over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night. Following five straight losses against its Conference USA foe, Rice (2-3, 1-0) now has a two-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles (1-4, 0-1). Constantine threw a 19-yard touchdown to Robert French to start the second half and extend Rice's lead to 17-7. After the Owls' defense came up with a pick on Southern Mississippi's next drive, Cedric Patterson III ran for a 38-yard score for a 24-7 lead. The Golden Eagles responded on the following kickoff when Camron Harrell ran it back 95 yards to reduce the deficit to 10. Jake Lange threw for 304 yards for Southern Mississippi with a touchdown and three interceptions. Jason Brownlee caught eight passes for 127 yards. - Rice/AP College Football

  09/26/21 - Jordan MyersrSr/2022, Rice, 6-0, 209 (DS#12 FB) + More +

Jordan Myers ran for four touchdowns and Jake Constantine was efficient throwing ball and had a scoring pass and Rice beat Texas Southern 48-34 on Saturday. Constantine started with a bang connecting with Cedric Patterson III on 73-yard scoring play on the game's first play from scrimmage. Later, Myers crashed in from 1-yard out to complete a seven-play, 85-yard drive with 5:23 left in the first quarter for a two-score lead. His second score, also a 1-yard dive, extended the margin to 20-3 with 7:16 left before the break. Myers' third 1-yard touchdown plunge made it a 34-13 contest with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter. His 64-yard scoring run with 9:43 left made it a 41-20 contest. Constantine was 18-for-23 passing for 271 yards and Myers ran for 160 yards on 26 carries for Rice (1-3). Andrew Body threw for 353 yards and ran for two scores and Ke'Lenn Davis had 181 yards receiving on seven receptions for the Tigers (0-3). - Rice/AP College Football

  09/25/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

JT Daniels threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns playing only the first quarter as No. 2 Georgia dominated Vanderbilt 62-0 Saturday in the Bulldogs' biggest win in a series that started in 1893. This game was effectively over when Georgia (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) led 35-0 after the first quarter. The Bulldogs started three of four drives in Vandy territory. They recovered a fumble on a kickoff to set up one TD, then Christopher Smith intercepted a pass to set up a second TD less than 30 seconds later. Bulldogs' fans turned this into their home away from Sanford Stadium with Georgia red even in seats behind the Vanderbilt bench.

They got to watch the Bulldogs post their first shutout this season, forcing Vandy three-and-out nine times. Georgia nearly had more points than Vandy managed yards, outgaining the Commodores 524-77. Vanderbilt (1-3, 0-1) lost its fourth straight to Georgia and its 14th straight SEC game, a skid that could be longer if COVID issues hadn't forced Vandy to cancel its visit on Georgia's Senior Day last season. A program that won in Athens in 2016 showed how much rebuilding first-year coach Clark Lea faces. Tight end Brock Bowers started the scoring with a 12-yard run on an end around with 11:21 left in the opening quarter. Daniels threw a pass to Bowers, who finished off a 25-yard TD. Zamir White scored two plays after James Ziglor fumbled the kickoff, and Daniels hit Ladd McConkey for a 12-yard TD after the interception. Georgia actually had to drive 71 yards on its final scoring drive of the first quarter, and Ladd McConkey ran 24 yards for the TD. - Georgia/AP College Football

  09/18/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

JT Daniels returned as No. 2 Georgia's starting quarterback Saturday night against South Carolina. Daniels didn't play in last weekend's 56-7 victory over UAB because of an oblique injury. Stetson Bennett stepped in and tied a school record with five touchdown passes - all in the first half. Despite Bennett's performance, the Bulldogs went back to the player who came into the season as their undisputed No. 1 quarterback. A transfer from Southern Cal, Daniels has guided the Bulldogs to a 5-0 record since taking over as the starter last season.

Daniels wasted no time making an impact in his return to the field. On the first play from scrimmage, he completed a 21-yard pass to Brock Bowers to spark a six-play, 75-yard drive that gave the Bulldogs a quick 7-0 lead. The next time Georgia had the ball, Daniels hooked up with Jermaine Burton for a 43-yard touchdown that stretched the lead to 14-3. South Carolina also had some suspense at quarterback. Former graduate assistant Zeb Noland made his third straight start in place of Luke Doty, who went down in practice last month with a foot sprain. - Georgia/AP College Football

  09/11/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Quarterback JT Daniels did not start Saturday for No. 2 Georgia against UAB because of an oblique injury. Daniels was replaced by senior Stetson Bennett, who started five games last season for the Bulldogs. Bennett got off to a blistering start, throwing a pair of touchdown passes in the first five minutes to stake Georgia to a 14-0 lead. Daniels' injury was not believed to be serious, but it did cause him enough discomfort that the Bulldogs decided to take no chances against the Blazers, who were a 25 1/2-point underdog. In the season-opening victory over Clemson, Daniels completed 22 of 30 passes for 135 yards with an interception. Neither team scored an offensive touchdown in Georgia's 10-3 victory, which was decided by an interception return for a touchdown. Daniels, a transfer from Southern Cal, is 5-0 as a starting quarterback since arriving at Georgia. - AP College Football

  09/09/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels has had limited reps in practice ahead of Saturday's home opener against UAB due to an injury, according to a report Wednesday from Dawg Post. Daniels, according to the report, is said to be facing an upper-body injury. No other specifics were given, other than that Daniels has missed some opportunities with the first-team offense that he would normally receive. 247Sports' Dawgs247 site on Wednesday reported, citing sources, that "the injury isn't long-term but that Daniels is truly day to day." After playing four games in 2020, Daniels opened his first full campaign as a Bulldog with 130 yards at a 22-for-30 clip in the 10-3 win over Clemson in Charlotte. Daniels spoke with reporters after the game, so it is unclear when the injury occurred or became serious enough to lead to limited practice time. - Macon Telegraph

  08/03/21 - Matt SykesrSr/2025, Rice, 6-4, 210 (DS#107 WR) + More +

UCLA receiver Matt Sykes has made most of his opportunities as he enters his second season with the Bruins. Sykes worked with the first team throughout the final week of spring camp as veteran receivers Kyle Philips and Chase Cota were limited to take care of minor injuries. "With all of those guys down I had a ton of reps," Sykes said. "It's just been mental repetitions and experience so I'm definitely a lot more comfortable working (with the starting unit.)" The 6-foot-4, 200-pound sophomore has the size to be a deep-threat option in the passing game, but is willing to show his versatility wherever he can on offense.

"I'm just going to do whatever coach (Chip) Kelly wants me to do," Sykes said. "If he wants me to block or get short yardage gains or even take the top off, but that's what we are working on every day." He started in two of the six games he played as a true freshman last season but recorded just three catches for 24 yards. Kelly has recognized Sykes' progression from this time last year as a true freshman trying to come in and learn while spring and fall camp was disrupted by the pandemic. "I think he's done a really nice job," Kelly said about Sykes in May. "This is really his first time to spend on fundamentals and learn the real intricacies of playing the position." - Orange County Register

A few days after the name, image and likeness law came into effect in the state of Georgia on July 1, J.T. Daniels signed a deal with the Everett Sports Marketing agency to oversee any potential agreements that could come the star quarterback's way. An immediate thought might've been that Daniels would use the law to benefit himself as athletes are able to profit from their likeness with events such as autograph signings, TV commercial appearances and more. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, according to head coach Nick Saban, said his new starting signal caller has had around $1 million in agreements since July 1. Daniels decided to alter his approach to the NIL opportunities. He announced plans Wednesday to help those around him, especially in the Athens community.

Daniels will partner with Extra Special People Inc. to support those in an inclusive environment for people with physical and developmental disabilities from youth to adulthood. This marks Daniels' second known deal since the NIL law came into effect. He agreed to an autograph and memorabilia partnership with SportsCollectibles.com out of Tampa, Florida on July 15. The ESP organization has three locations in Georgia - Athens, Atlanta and Rome - and has started a national influence by recently expanding to San Francisco in 2019 via its Java Joy initiative. - Macon Telegraph

  07/23/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Georgia quarterback TJ Daniels and Tennessee receiver Velus Jones were teammates previously at Southern California. Now they're both in the SEC and were at media days on Tuesday. Daniels, who graduated from high school a year early, said he spent the spring before his freshman season visiting practice. "I would come up to USC and spend the weekend or spend almost the whole week there to watch spring practice and try and learn, and I stayed with Velus," said Daniels, who is from Irvine, Calif. "So Velus and I have been really good friends since I was 17. He's just a really good guy." Jones said he and Daniels spent a lot of time together. "Me and JT, we hung out a lot, played video games together," Jones said. "He was always at my apartment. Couldn't get him out. I tried to kick him out a lot." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  06/14/21 - Luke McCaffreyrJr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 198 (DS#21 WR) + More +

Former Nebraska quarterback Luke McCaffrey is on the move again. The now-former Louisville player announced on Twitter on Monday that he will be transferring to Rice to restart his college football journey. The news comes less than a week after Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield confirmed McCaffrey had left the program, in part because he wanted to be the starting QB. Rice, a member of Conference USA, finished 2-3 last season. The Owls are led by head coach Mike Bloomgren, who has a three-year record of 7-23 (6-15) at the school. McCaffrey appeared in seven games for Nebraska last season as a redshirt freshman - starting two. He threw for 466 yards and one touchdown (against six picks), rushed for 364 yards and added three more scores on the ground. His first career start came Nov. 14 against Penn State in a 30-23 triumph. The following week, he threw three picks in a crushing 41-23 loss to Illinois. - - Lincoln Journal Star

  06/08/21 - Luke McCaffreyrJr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 198 (DS#21 WR) + More +

Louisville quarterback Luke McCaffrey is going back into the transfer portal. The Nebraska transfer, who just recently arrived on campus after committing in February, is leaving the Cardinals coach Scott Satterfield said on the radio this morning with Drew Deener. McCaffrey, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, was important depth at quarterback for a room that lacked it. It was unlikely that he would pass returning starter Malik Cunningham and backup Evan Conley on the depth chart. A sought-after four-star dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 recruiting cycle, the No. 257 overall recruit, McCaffrey went to Nebraska and redshirted his freshman year. As a true freshman, he played in four games before redshirting and completed 9-of-12 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 166 yards on 24 carries. - Courier Journal

  05/09/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

After a bizarre season at the quarterback spot, redshirt junior JT Daniels could be a source of stability for a program entering the fall with national championship aspirations. Daniels passed for 401 yards and four touchdowns in his Georgia debut against Mississippi State after he was cleared from knee surgery. Georgia went 4-0 with Daniels at the helm. He passed for 1,243 yards with 10 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while completing 67.2% of his passes. Georgia averaged 8.3 more points per game (37.3) and 103.2 more yards per game (486) behind Daniels than it did under Stetson Bennett and D'Wan Mathis. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  03/02/21 - Khary CrumprSr/2026, Rice, 6-0, 172 (DS#150 CB) + More +

Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker wasn't kidding when he said he'd be looking for players via the transfer portal. The Spartans got their second player of the day Saturday when Khary Crump, a cornerback from Arizona, announced on social media that he would be joining the Spartans. Crump was a three-star prospect out of Culver City, California, for the 2020 class, where he had 169 tackles and seven interceptions in high school, according to his bio page on the Arizona athletic department. The 5-foot-11, 164-pounder thanked MSU defensive backs coach Harlon Barnett and former MSU defensive back William Cooper, among others, in announcing his decision. - Lansing State Journal

  02/28/21 - Uriah WestrSr/2023, Rice, 5-11, 240 (DS#25 FB) + More +

Zion Webb threw for 125 yards and a touchdown and Uriah West ran for 106 yards and a touchdown and Jacksonville State beat Tennessee Tech 27-10 on Sunday. Jacksonville State (4-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) kicked off the FCS spring season picking right up where it left off in the fall. Following a 41-24 loss at FBS-member Florida State in October - a game in which the Gamecocks led 14-0 after the first quarter - Jacksonville State followed with wins against Mercer, North Alabama and Florida International. Sunday, the 16th-ranked Gamecocks came out against Tennessee Tech (1-1, 1-1) and immediately controlled the line of scrimmage. They held the Golden Eagles to four yards in three plays on their opening drive to force a punt. Jacksonville State then held the ball for a 14-play, 53-yard drive that ended when Josh Samuel ran it in from two yards out. - Jacksonville State/AP College Football
